Fun with vinyl floors!

kids bedroom flooring ideas

Whenever you think of re-decorating your rooms or just giving them a refresh, how often do you think of doing something with the floors?  I know I tend to look at the walls or the furniture or even the decor because the floors somehow feel more fixed.  But actually thats not true.  You can change your floors really easily and sometimes that can be just the new look the room needs.

I’m loving the vinyl floor look which is no longer just for bathrooms.  Vinyl flooring has come such a long way with so many more finishes, colours and patterns available.   While I probably wouldn’t go for vinyl in every room in my home, I think they’re a great and fun option for kids rooms.  Apart from being durable, they’re so easy to clean (goodbye paint stains!) and they allow you to have fun.  Think stripes or checks or a sea of your favourite colour.  I’ve been looking at some creative ways of using vinyl in a kids room and here are 3 fun ways:

When it comes to solid coloured vinyl, they’re probably my favourite.  I love how you get an expanse of pure colour without breaks and lines.  It’s an endless sea of floor which can make a small room feel bigger. Being a monochrome junkie, I would opt for a pure white floor or for added drama a black floor with white walls.  But if you prefer colour, imagine a sea blue floor or a mustard yellow?  In a kids room I would also be tempted to add some fun and games to a solid coloured vinyl floor using washi tape – think hopscotch board or race tracks.  How fun would that be?

If you prefer a bit more drama then this style of checkered vinyl floor is perfect especially in black and white.  The floor forms a striking backdrop for a mix of white and bright colours.  Even just the little pops of bright colour like in the photo above really stand out.  Think of the fun you could have in a kids room with this floor – no colour would be off limits.

If you are crazy about stripes, then that’s another option.  I love how they’ve created a toned striped floor in the room above.  By keeping it in the same colour but different shades, it doesn’t look too much and is again such a fun floor for a kids room. Something like a pale pink and white or a soft grey with a darker grey would look great too.  Or if you dare, try a black and white striped floor.  Oh, the options.

While you can get more detailed patterned vinyl floors, I think the simplicity of a solid colour, checks or stripes works best.  The floor has the wow factor without it feeling too busy.  Whether you choose a bright colour or monochrome, stripes or checks, vinyl floors are fun, especially for a kids room since they’re so easy to clean too so no more worrying about all the messy spills or muddy footprints!
