I often share ideas with you on how to decorate kids rooms with wall stickers, wallpaper, rugs and so much more.  While these things are all great to help you create the look you want, there is also a lot that you can do with just a simple tin of paint.  Nothing more, nothing less.  It’s quick, easy and budget friendly but yet the possibilities of getting creative with paint are endless.  Here are five ways to have fun with paint in a kids room:

"pastel baby nursery decor ideas"

This is such a simple idea but so effective to create a cosy little corner.  Rather than just paint straight lines, I love that they have painted a house shape which really makes it feel like a separate space within the room. I especially like this idea to easily create a small reading nook in an older child’s room.

"ideas for creating two tone walls"

Two-tone walls seem to be all the rage at the moment.  I’ve seen them mostly done where there is a straight line separating the top from the bottom, but this triangle effect is so much more fun.  It also allows you to use shades like that peach colour which probably would be too much if you painted a whole wall in it.  But the colour just at the bottom allows the furniture and shelves to stand out.

"colourful ideas to decorate a kids room"

This isn’t a kids room but this idea to paint rough shapes on the wall is so great for a kids room, a nursery or a playroom.  It’s a brilliant way to add pops of colour to a room without needing to restrict yourself to just one or two colours.  You can use paint shapes like these to highlight shelves and other wall displays and you can even paint colourful frames around posters instead of hanging them in real frames.

"pastel colour block walls"

Using big blocks of colour to mark out different areas in a room is another way to get creative with paint.  With this look, as long as the rest of the walls are white, you can choose any two colours bright, pastel or neutral.  This idea is so great for a shared room to clearly mark out spaces and each child gets to choose their favourite colour too.

"red statement feature walls"

This is what I call a feature wall! I’ve often seen rooms where one wall is painted in a different colour but this space takes that idea a lot further by painting not only the wall but everything on it including the radiator and also using a very bright colour.  I love that there are no half measures here – this wall makes a statement and it looks striking.  A great way to liven up any kids space and with this effect, I think the bolder the colour the better.

Would you try any of these? What’s your favourite look?

The cutest kids wallpaper

"childrens themed wallpaper""childrens themed wallpaper jungle""childrens themed wallpaper town"

If you read this blog regularly, you’ll know I’m a huge fan of wallpaper.  So when I came across this new adorable range designed by Swedish artist Ingela Arrenhius, it was love.  I’m already a big fan of Ingela’s colourful and cute illustrations which are available as kids posters but now you can have a whole wall full of her sweet art.

True to Ingela’s style, these wallpapers are playful with a fun retro vibe.  All the wallpapers (and there are many designs) come in 2 colourways with each one designed to tell a story – from life in a town to life in a jungle and even life in space!  My favourite is the picture frames wallpaper which I’m loving for a vintage inspired kids room.  The beautiful styling is by Mokkasin and the wallpapers are available from Photowall.

I love wallpaper.  It’s such a great way to brighten up a kids room or any room in your home especially if you want to change the look of the room without too much effort.  But wallpaper doesn’t always have to mean pasting it to a whole wall or the entire room; instead you can be as creative with it as you like.  You can make a feature wall, a focal point to highlight a part of the room or use it to create separate area’s within a room.  There are lots of fun and imaginative ways to use wallpaper in a kids room.  Here are 5 ways that make quite an impact:

Use different shades of the same wallpaper
This is a big room with lots of different areas and lots of furniture.  In this kids room using the same wallpaper in different shades really helps to bring the room together and make it feel like one space.  Also, by using the wallpaper sparingly it doesn’t take away from the bright, white feel of the room but instead the wallpaper draws your eye to certain areas especially the two panels at the end of the room.

"whale poster whale art""black and white posters""black and white puma poster"

For me no room in any home is complete without some art.  Kids rooms are no exception but usually I’m not a fan of the over cute, over colourful, cartoon style art.  There are some exceptions but generally I prefer ageless art; something everybody can relate to.  I also prefer art that grows with your child so you don’t have to replace it every few years.  When I came across these posters, they were exactly the kind of art that could go on the walls of any room of a home but something everybody can connect with.  Striking and minimal, these animal posters are cool and really draw you in.  There are a load of animals from bats to koalas but my favourite is the simplest of them all – the whales.  I especially love these black and white animal posters for a bright, white modern baby nursery.

A twin baby nursery

"boy girl shared nursery ideas twins"

I recently came across  a new nursery furniture range from Spain and I loved the modern lines and colourful accents.  The range consists of cribs like the ones pictured above, chests of draws in a range of sizes, striped teepees and more.  The nursery furniture has a contemporary vibe with unexpected little details like the angled legs and of course the cool colour accents.  I chose my two favourite colours to share but there are many more including a beautiful wood and white one.  This furniture is the the creation of one of my favourite Barcelona based shops for kids – if you are ever in Barcelona, do check out Nobodinoz but otherwise they are online too.

Rather than just show you the furniture, I thought it would be fun to create a baby nursery mood board and for a change I decided to go for a shared baby boy and girl nursery space – maybe for boy and girl twins.  Here’s where you’ll find all the stuff:

1.  mountain tops wallpaper | 2. pink, white and yellow pom poms  | 3.  fruit posters | 4.  bird mobile | 5. grey baby rabbit lamp | 6. brown bambi lamp | 7.  coloured wooden chests of drawers | 8. colourful flag garlands (these exact colours are no longer available but you can get similar)| 9.  wooden baby cribs with coloured base | 10. high chair with changeable inner seat | 11. baby quilts and bed set | 12. toy storage baskets | 13. floral print star cushion | 14.  fox and koala soft toy

"minimalist fairytale posters""minimalist fairytale posters for kids""minimalist posters"

A quick start to the week with these beautiful minimalist fairytale posters.  I featured these minimalist posters a long while ago but since then, there is a whole new range out and I’m loving them even more.  With this new range there are a lot of other accessories like cushions, bags and t-shirts featuring the visual but for me it’s the posters that are the best.  For an even more minimal look, you can get these fairytale posters without the name of the fairytale printed on –  it would make a great guessing game!  Would you be able to guess just by the pictures?

"black and white room ideas for toddlers"

I think if I ever move to another career it would have to be something to do with decorating babies and kids rooms.  I love putting together inspiration and ideas for how to create a beautiful nursery space or a kiddy space.  My favourite style is Scandinavian and right now I’m really partial to black and white rooms especially with a subtle hint of another colour.  For this mood board I’ve added a dash of pink to brighten up the black and white.  Here’s where you’ll find the picks:

1. stars garland | 2. miffy lamp | 3. heart postcard | 4. cloud postcards and panda poster | 5. birch toddler and child bed | 6.  owl cushion | 8.  striped toy storage baskets | 9.  bunny and girl doll | 10.  beauty baby and jealous baby dolls | 11. trees duvet set

"6 etsy favourites"

Here are 6 things I’m currently loving on etsy:

1.  vintage floral baby shorts | 2.  monochrome fox brooch | 3.  black and white rainbow pillow doll | 4.  linen polka dot pouch | 5.  personalised wooden toy boat | 6. deer girl kids room poster

"black and white posters for babies"

If you’ve been reading this blog for a while, you’ll know that I love black and white decor for every part of the home including kids rooms.    So this collection of mostly black and white posters for kids totally grabbed my attention.  It’s one of the cutest I’ve seen in a while and includes bunnies, mountains, type and more all presented in a clean, graphic style.

"posters-for-kids-bedrooms"You’ve probably guessed by now that these posters are from Sweden – you can’t miss the cool Scandi vibe.  These black and white kids room posters are so playful and cute and would add a touch of fun to any kids space.
