I love bedtime with Anya. We snuggle up together and read a story often surrounded by a menagerie of stuffed animals. After lots of kisses and cuddles we say goodnight, I turn the light off and leave. That’s the good bit. Then comes the painful part – getting her to actually go to sleep! I’ve found that as she’s getting older, she is coming up with more and more imaginative excuses not to sleep. Of course we get the usual ‘I’m thirsty’, ‘I’m hungry’, ‘I need the toilet’ type excuses but recently her imagination seems to have gone in to over-drive and here are some of her latest reasons not to sleep:
“I don’t like sleeping, it’s too hard”
“I’ve forgotten how to close my eyes”
“I think my heart is sick, it’s beating too fast”
“My eyelashes are hurting” (what?!)
Anya: “I can’t sleep”
Me: “Count sheep then” (I explain how to count sheep)
Silence. I’m feeling smug because at least for today I’ve cracked it. But two minutes later, this:
Anya: “I’m scared”
Me: “Why”
Anya: “I think I saw a sheep in my bedroom”
And the latest one from last night:
“I have chicken pox”
What are some of the excuses your kids use? I’d love to hear them in the comments.
Have a wonderful weekend everyone x

Oh my gosh hilarious although shouldn’t laugh, Anya sounds so like Oliver, so tough having smart kids isn’t it?! Love this. Teenage kids on our hands already! I’ve got chicken pox! Please add this to #brilliantblogposts next week! And how gorgeous is Anya x

What a great picture, her face says it all. She does have a creative mind and I can’t think of anything my little munchkins have said that stands up to hers. I usually ask mine what was the worst part of their day and what was their favorite part of their day, then I tell them to focus on the favorite part of the day and it’s off to dream land. Sweet dreams!

Thanks – thats a lovely thing to tell them before bed. Will have to try that with Anya. Anya is so keen on dodging bed that I think she has become a master at it and I am the one left anticipating what she’ll do next, ha, ha! 🙂

My son is still too young (20 months) to come up with excuses so I have none to share, but I just wanted to say that this made me laugh! And that it put The Fear into me: I still have all of this to navigate… #brilliantblogposts

Ha, ha… don’t get THE FEAR! It’s so funny when they come up with such ridiculous excuses, it’s hard to keep a straight face! I’m sure your son will come out with his own gems!
