Gallery walls are all the rage and they look great.  I’m considering one for my living room but I think they look fab in any room especially a kids room where you can have so much fun creating one.  It’s a great way to update a room that needs a bit of life or to just change the look for a new season.  The most obvious way to create a gallery wall is to have loads of shop bought framed prints but there are other creative ways and the best part is that gallery walls don’t cost much to create.  Things like kids artworks make a great a gallery wall or you don’t even have to use art.  Some of the cutest gallery walls I’ve seen use objects and decorations and even clothes.   Here are some fun and unusual ideas on how to create a gallery wall in a kids bedroom:

how to create a gallery wallI love this monochrome nursery wall.  Lots of fun, quirky, interesting postcards, shapes and more simply taped to the wall with washi tape.  There’s no order here, they’ve just stuck lots on but I love that and because they’ve kept the tones the same it makes it even more striking.  Best of all, there’s lots for the baby to look at.

There are so many things that turn a house in to a home –  from books to souvenirs and everything in between. One of my must haves to make a house a home is art; lots of it and in every room.  I’m always looking to add to my collection of wall art and my latest find are these adorable black and white prints for a kids room.  How cute are they?

French art for kids

I’m in love with this new French design studio – how great is their art?  I love discovering new designers for a range of things but especially for kids art.  Art like this that may be aimed at kids but really it’s ageless and will be loved by adults too.  I’m loving the posters as well as those quirky animal trophies.  Every child should have some art on their walls and I’m planning to have a lot in Anya’s new room – the only trouble is choosing from all the amazing kids art out there.  But I think those animal trophies and that adorable juggler print are going to be hard to pass up!  Visit Melanie, the designer’s shop to see the rest of her striking collection of kids art.

blue baby nursery decor ideas

With my current house renovation project I seem to be spending half my life on interiors sites, pinterest and browsing through interiors magazines.  I’m definitely not complaining!  Recently I’ve noticed a bit of a trend for using deep, dark blues in interiors like indigo and petrol blue.  These deep blues are not colours you find everywhere so they are still quite unusual and really stand out.  While they look great in dining rooms and living rooms, I think these blues would look equally fabulous in a nursery or kids room – for boy or girl.  So I felt inspired to put together a mood board for a kids room using various shades of deep blue with touches of lighter blue.

One of my first ports of call for finding cute things for kids rooms in the UK is Petit Home one of my sponsors.  It’s run by a French lady who has a real mix of styles in her shop so there is something for every taste.  From quirky pieces like that rabbit light to more understated things like the bed linen she has.  I picked a few of my favourite pieces and mixed them up with with some others to create this blue kids room moodboard.  Here’s where you’ll find everything:

1.  storage baskets | 2. elephant mobile | 3. moon poster | 4. stars garland  | 5. cat print cushion | 6. star cushion | 7.  bow print bedlinen | 8. baby rabbit night light | 9. play tent

Character themed or over colourful kids and baby bedding just doesn’t do it for me.  I personally prefer children’s bedding to be as simple and minimal as possible but that doesn’t mean it has to be just black and white.  I totally appreciate that a few carefully chosen colours thrown in can work really well.  That’s why I’m loving this new collection of baby and kids bedding from Australia.  Tiny little polka dots in charcoal or neon pink adorn the sheets which are complimented with a beautiful two-tone blanket.  There’s also a sheet with little yellow hearts that is quite adorable for baby boy or girl.  And then for older kids you’ve got the dotty sheets with matching duvets which can also be paired with the two-tone blankets.  Very simple, very classy.

Apart from these stylish bedding sets for kids, also on offer are some unusual and fun prints.  What I love most about the prints is that they really are for any age – from little babies to adults.  Many of the prints compliment the bedding sets really well or would be a great way to add pops of colour to an all white nursery or kids room.  Of all I think I’m loving that quirky dog print and the charcoal polka dot linen is just lovely too.  In fact I would be tempted to go with both together for a boys room.

Whimsical art

With our recent house move I’ve got a million decor ideas floating around in my head.  There are so many things and styles I like that I know it’s going to be hard to narrow it down and choose one particular style of decor.  With Anya’s room too I keep flitting from a vintage style to something more modern.  Then of course there is the art for her walls.  I’ve been collecting all the kids art I like on a pinterest board but when it comes down to choosing just one or two pieces for her room, I really don’t know how I will manage.  My latest find are these quirky water colour style prints that I’m loving.  I love their expressions and the whimsical style of the characters too.  This collection is by Mrs Mighetto and you’ll find most of the range at Mokkasin.  One more fab art collection to add to my ever increasing choices!  How will I ever choose?!

For me no room in any home is complete without some art.  Kids rooms are no exception but usually I’m not a fan of the over cute, over colourful, cartoon style art.  There are some exceptions but generally I prefer ageless art; something everybody can relate to.  I also prefer art that grows with your child so you don’t have to replace it every few years.  When I came across these posters, they were exactly the kind of art that could go on the walls of any room of a home but something everybody can connect with.  Striking and minimal, these animal posters are cool and really draw you in.  There are a load of animals from bats to koalas but my favourite is the simplest of them all – the whales.  I especially love these black and white animal posters for a bright, white modern baby nursery.

"minimalist fairytale posters""minimalist fairytale posters for kids""minimalist posters"

A quick start to the week with these beautiful minimalist fairytale posters.  I featured these minimalist posters a long while ago but since then, there is a whole new range out and I’m loving them even more.  With this new range there are a lot of other accessories like cushions, bags and t-shirts featuring the visual but for me it’s the posters that are the best.  For an even more minimal look, you can get these fairytale posters without the name of the fairytale printed on –  it would make a great guessing game!  Would you be able to guess just by the pictures?

"black and white posters for babies"

If you’ve been reading this blog for a while, you’ll know that I love black and white decor for every part of the home including kids rooms.    So this collection of mostly black and white posters for kids totally grabbed my attention.  It’s one of the cutest I’ve seen in a while and includes bunnies, mountains, type and more all presented in a clean, graphic style.

"posters-for-kids-bedrooms"You’ve probably guessed by now that these posters are from Sweden – you can’t miss the cool Scandi vibe.  These black and white kids room posters are so playful and cute and would add a touch of fun to any kids space.

"yellow baby room decor ideas"With all the sunshine here in the UK, I ‘m really feeling inspired by the colour yellow.  It’s one of my favourite colours for a baby room because it’s such a happy colour.  Yellow works so well for a boy or girl nursery but needs lots of white with it otherwise it can be a little overwhelming.  I’ve put together a little yellow nursery inspiration board with white walls and hints of other colours to inspire you in case you’re looking for unisex nursery decor ideas:

1.  yellow pendant light | 2.  bright red apple print | 3.  dotty wallpaper | 4.  knitted toy storage baskets | 5.  yellow plush doll | 6. dotted cabinet | 7.  vintage inspired kids chair | 8. yellow linen bed set

P.S. While I was searching for yellow nursery decor, I found one of the top related searches was ‘is yellow bad for baby room’?  Apparently, according to the internet, too much yellow (yellow walls, yellow furniture etc) makes babies cry!  I’ve never heard this before, have you?
