monochrome posters kids room

There are so many things that turn a house in to a home –  from books to souvenirs and everything in between. One of my must haves to make a house a home is art; lots of it and in every room.  I’m always looking to add to my collection of wall art and my latest find are these adorable black and white prints for a kids room.  How cute are they?

unisex childrens tshirts UK

Do you know Wild Boys & Girls?  It’s a new label of purely unisex t-shirts and decor.  There is no boys section or girls section but instead everything is for everyone.  It’s so refreshing to see more unisex brands popping up – I am all for kids fashion that can be worn by both boys and girls and that’s why when I discovered Wild Boys & Girls, I had to collaborate with them.

I wonder what they were plotting!

Annie, the founder and designer, and I decided to organise a play date with our kids and mix and match up the clothes our kids wore – some from my shop and some from Annie’s collection.  As you can see (in the top picture), Felix is wearing the black & white feather print trousers from my shop which are supposed to be for girls but doesn’t he look so cool?  And Anya wears one of the Wild Boys & Girls tee’s with my tutu.

It was clearly a good secret!

No more photos please!!

There is so much amazing choice out there for gender specific clothes but not so much for unisex clothes. So it’s great to see a new brand doing purely unisex kids clothes.  In the past I have often shopped for Anya in the boys section but maybe it is easier for a girl to wear boys clothes?  So I’m wondering, would you consider looking at the girls section for your little boys?  Or do the clothes have to specifically be called unisex before you would consider them?

Minimal and monochrome

black and white decor for kids rooms

How can anybody not get excited looking at beautiful, monochrome, minimal kids room decor like this or is it just me?  Do kids really need to have colour in their lives 😉  This stuff is so playful for a small child’s room yet stylish enough for them to hold on to for years.  What’s not to love?!  Here’s where you’ll find it all:

1. striped snake | 2. crochet light decoration | 3. teardrop coat hooks | 4. peeking bunny cushion | 5. mouse silhouette poster | 6. circular striped rug

"brinjal farrow and ball colour"

While I am normally very much a fan of neutral white walls and like to use objects and paintings to add colour, I went against my instinct and painted my hallway in a dark aubergine.  Despite myself, I love it!  I think it works because of the contrast with the bright white floors.  This got me thinking about rarely seeing kids rooms painted in bold, dark, statement colours and most of the time I can understand why.  Pale, light colours do make a space feel larger and brighter while dark colours can have the opposite effect.  But sometimes it’s fun to break from the norm and do something different.  And if done right, it can really work.  Here are 3 kids rooms that really make dark colours work in the space:

"purple kids room ideas"

Dark purple is not a colour you often come across but it totally works because it’s been complimented with lots of white.  I also love that the wall is a chalkboard wall making it even more fun. (via spearmint baby)

"blue room decor ideas boys"

In this room there’s no respite with white.  Instead it’s dark walls with dark furniture but by using similar tones, the room does come together and creates a moody effect which I like. (via cable & cotton)

"black and white decor ideas"

This room uses the darkest colour of all – black and it’s a jet black.  But I love how the black starts on the floor and goes only halfway up the walls.  An all black room would be oppressive but by doing it this way it really works and gives an unusual look.  Most dark colours paired with white or any pale colour would work well in this way.  (via Kotipalapeli)

Would you try a really dark colour anywhere in your home?  You never know, you may just love it.

"black and white blankets for kids"With Winter well and truly here in London, I thought it was the perfect time to introduce you to these cosy and stylish kids blankets.  I’ve long been a fan of Rafa kids and these blankets are one of their latest offerings.  They all come in black, white and grey tones with either a sheep, leopard or dot design.  The blankets are big so you and your kiddies can all snuggle under them together.  I love this idea of spending long Winter afternoons snuggling under a big blanket while watching a film.  Even though I’m not a cold weather person there are some things I love about Winter and big cosy blankets and quilts are definitely one of those things.

"blakc and white nursery decor ideas"At the moment I can’t seem to get enough of Scandinavian style black & white interiors.  It’s such a clean and striking look for any room.  So I’ve put together some things I’m really loving for a Scandi inspired black & white baby nursery.

1. Hand knit Paris garland…  2. Bear of few words A4 print…  3. Tree adorned crib bedding…  4. Black and birch high chair…  5.  Stripey cloud cushion…  6. Raindrop wall stickers…  7.  Jealous baby soft toy.

"polka dot dress for girls"I’ve already mentioned before how much I love Pola & Frank, a new-ish mama and kids brand from Poland.  So when they sent my daughter Anya this wonderful black and white polka dot dress in the post, we couldn’t have been more delighted.  I love polka dots and so does Anya.  This dress has quickly become a hot favourite in her summer wardrobe.  Thank you to Judyta & Paulina – the two mama’s who are the creative force behind Pola & Frank

"black and white kids room ideas"I remember when I was around 13, there was a girl in my school who only ever wore black.  Occasionally she would wear little hints of white or grey but the dominating colour from head to toe was always black.  I seriously thought she was the coolest kid I’d ever seen!  I’ve always loved black and even several years on this obsession with black has never waned.  When I see a piece of clothing in a shop, it can come in every colour under the sun and I will always be drawn to the black one.  Over the years I’ve taught myself to have more colour in my wardrobe especially for Spring and Summer but in Winter it’s back to black!  Now this black obsession is creeping in to my decorating ideas and I’m thinking of re-doing my daughters room in black and white.  So I’ve been looking around for kids room decorations that are not only black and white but are also simple, unfussy and uncluttered in their design.  These were my top picks:

1.  Heart poster… 2. Polka dot wall stickers… 3. Sheep mobile… 4. Striped blanket… 5. Striped cloud cushion… 6. Tica chair… 7. Mickey Mouse pillow.

Hope you all have a great weekend!  See you next week…

"black and white nursery art"My brother and sister-in-law are total art lovers and wherever they travel they pick up a painting by a local artist as a souvenir.  I think this is such a lovely way of remembering your travels and combining your love of art.  They always try and buy an original because given a choice I think anyone would opt for this over a print and very often you can get your hands on originals for not a lot of money.  While there is a lot of great original art out there, it’s not often that I come across cool original paintings for kids and so when I saw these by Adriane Duckworth I had to share.  The art is delightfully simple yet striking and I love the uncomplicated nature of the drawings.  My favourites are the black and white animal paintings and I love the black clouds too but there are some bright coloured ones available as well.  While Adriane’s style is minimalist and modern, it has plenty of warmth and cuteness too!  You can see more and checkout her selection at Society 6.

"black and white wallpaper"If you read my post on Ferm Livings latest collection, you will know that I am obsessing over the whole black and white Scandinavian interiors look.  I so badly want to create my own version of this look in my living room but can’t for practical reasons.  My only hope is moving house but it seems a bit excessive to move just because I want to re-decorate the living room!  So while I wait I’ve been dreaming of how I would decorate, and this black and white wallpaper by Fine Little Day is one of my favourites.  In my next home I know I’ve got to have this somewhere.  The same print also comes as a baby blanket and a cushion cover both of which I love too.  I went looking around the web to see rooms where this blanket, wallpaper or cushion has been used and these were some of my favourite black and white rooms:

"black and white nursery""black and white kids room""black and white scandinavian decor"Isn’t this wallpaper so striking?  It just brings all these rooms to life.  I love the nursery at the top which is nearly all white but has that stunning feature wall.  I also love the last picture where this wallpaper has been used to frame a door.  And the 2 pictures in the middle show the blanket and cushion which are so chic.  Have a happy weekend!
