One of the best parts of the changing of the seasons has got to be the new fashions that arrive. While the weather may not always do what it’s supposed to, at least we know that we will get new fashion to covet, each season. One of my favourite things to buy Anya each Spring/Summer season is a jumpsuit. They are so practical and easy to wear, allowing kids to move freely and do what they do. And with so many great jumpsuits for kids out there, it’s hard to resist. And not just for girls. There are some seriously cool jumpsuits for boys too – I’ve picked out some of the best below.
Do you know Wild Boys & Girls? It’s a new label of purely unisex t-shirts and decor. There is no boys section or girls section but instead everything is for everyone. It’s so refreshing to see more unisex brands popping up – I am all for kids fashion that can be worn by both boys and girls and that’s why when I discovered Wild Boys & Girls, I had to collaborate with them.
I wonder what they were plotting!
Annie, the founder and designer, and I decided to organise a play date with our kids and mix and match up the clothes our kids wore – some from my shop and some from Annie’s collection. As you can see (in the top picture), Felix is wearing the black & white feather print trousers from my shop which are supposed to be for girls but doesn’t he look so cool? And Anya wears one of the Wild Boys & Girls tee’s with my tutu.

There is so much amazing choice out there for gender specific clothes but not so much for unisex clothes. So it’s great to see a new brand doing purely unisex kids clothes. In the past I have often shopped for Anya in the boys section but maybe it is easier for a girl to wear boys clothes? So I’m wondering, would you consider looking at the girls section for your little boys? Or do the clothes have to specifically be called unisex before you would consider them?
I can’t resist a good sale. Actually I don’t know too many women who can. At the moment with our huge house renovation project coming up I’m trying to look after the pennies and not shop except during sale time. Visiting sales can often mean trawling through messy shelves in shops and hanging around long queues so I much prefer checking out the sales from the comfort of my own sofa.
One of my favourite sales of the year (apart from my shop of course 🙂 ) is the Smallable kids clothing sale in January. There is so much gorgeous stuff on offer so choosing just a few pieces is the hard part. But at least when you’re sat on your sofa in the comfort of your own home, you can browse away and take your time deciding. With that in mind I thought I would share some of my favourite pieces from their current sale which has offers up to 60% off – talk about hard to resist! Here I’ve picked the pieces that are tempting me for Anya. I’m especially finding those red leopard print socks and that wolf sweater very hard to resist.
Many of my readers tell me that they wish I had more boys stuff on the blog. So today I decided it would be fun to do a boys edit too. I often wonder how I would have dressed a boy if I had one and now I have some idea. I was really drawn to the animal illustrations, a bit of superhero style and some colour mixed in with lots of greys, blacks and whites. I’ve also realised that blue is definitely not a favourite of mine for a boy. Oh and those leopard socks – I think they’re perfect for boy or girl.
Yesterday I shared my favourite Christmas clothes for girls from our shop so today it’s the turn of the boys. Do you gift your boys clothes? I don’t know if boys get as excited about clothes as girls but if they do, I’ve picked out some fabulous pieces that they will enjoy wearing. Our boys collection is a bit smaller than the girls one but each piece is hand-picked and slightly unusual. And we have some very cool pieces that are big on comfort and style like the strapped trousers as well as the geometric dot trousers. I’m naturally more drawn to girls fashion as I have a daughter. But the world of boys fashion is exploding with style too. Gone are the days when all you could find was basics like plain tees, trousers and shorts. So I thought I would share some of the coolest boys looks around at the moment. My favourites are that linen tie overall – how cool is that? And those red striped trousers are pretty funky too. Do you mix it up when it comes to your boys? Which look would you choose?
A little while I ago I shared this amazing coat from Pepito by Chus which so many of you told me you loved as much as I did. Today I wanted to share their new Spring Summer collection which is fresh and beautiful. I love how all the pieces are simple and mostly in solid colours but then embellished with a bow, a ruffle or an unusual collar. The cuts are classic and so, so chic. The whole collection is feminine without being fussy. These are the kind of girly clothes that every little girl needs – the kind that look so comfy yet so chic and pretty.
I’m always drawn to the girls stuff because I have a girl but the boys range is no less beautiful. Crisp white collarless shirts and cute shorts again with unexpected details like those pink elbow patches on the white shirt – I love that! There’s actually a range of elbow patches you can choose from but the pink are my favourite.
Pepito by Chus is a fairly new Spanish label started by a mama of three. I am a huge fan already and can’t wait to see what she creates for her next collection.
I naturally get more drawn to girls clothes simply because I only have a daughter and also the choice out there for girls is pretty amazing and diverse especially if you look beyond the mainstream. But lately I’ve seen a lot more happening in the world of boys fashion which is exciting. There’s no reason why boys shouldn’t have as much choice as girls. So when I came across this new French brand called Diapers & Milk, it’s was so refreshing to see that they don’t differentiate between boys and girls. They make really cute leggings that are unisex.
Boys leggings aren’t that easy to find but I wonder why. Leggings are seriously comfy and practical wear for babies and young kids so why should they be only for girls? Diapers & Milk have colourful leggings like that sweet mustache print as well as more muted graphic print ones that would all look so cute on boy or girl. I don’t know about you but I am beyond ready for Spring. So far I haven’t bought anything for this elusive season but yesterday I saw a gorgeous coral top in a sheer fabric and I couldn’t resist. I convinced myself that if I bought it, Spring would come sooner. I know I’m getting desperate and even more so when I see all the wonderful colours, fabrics and prints on offer at the moment. One collection that’s really caught my eye is Soft Gallery’s new Spring/Summer 2013 line for kids. This isn’t the first time I’ve fallen for Soft Gallery and I suspect it won’t be the last.
Soft Gallery’s Spring/Summer 2013 collection called ‘PURE’ is dreamy and playful. Some of the clothes are in pale solid colours while others are embellished with butterflies, rabbits and other animals illustrated by artists from around the world. The colors are soft, the drawings are bold and the overall feeling is one of a playful adventure. I love the Audrey Hare dress which has a bubble like shape and a beautiful peachy-pink illustration of a rabbit. I also love the tennis playing, wolf like creature on the grey tee for a boy. Now, if only Spring would show it’s face we could all indulge in some delightful Spring fashion like this.
On Sunday we were out having lunch when I heard a man say ‘wow, look at those purple shoes… what a cool baby!”. It took me a moment to realise he was talking about my baby wearing her deep pinky-purple Ben Simons. It was such a delightful moment as out of the blue, a fully grown man was so visibly excited about a little pair of purple shoes. My daughter was wearing the bright shoes with muted fall coloured clothes so the shoes really stood out.
I love the effect of combining lots of soft neutral tones with unexpected pops of bright colour. And that’s why I love the wonderfully French and super chic boutique that is Bonton. They have a real knack of putting together fabulous looks for both boys and girls; looks where they use lots of sandy beiges, soft greys and chocolate browns and then they throw in that solid block of colour which takes an outfit from nice to super stand-out nice.
Most of their kids clothes come in a huge range of colours so you can mix and match and choose which part of the outfit you want make bold. It could be as simple as a bright yellow scarf thrown over a pale brown dress or you could go for bright red trousers with a soft grey shirt. The choice is yours. I’m currently lusting over those hot pink shoes… how great are they? I’ve also spotted the perfect little skirt to go with.
