There’s something so lux and special about wearing cashmere.  Not only does it feel soft against the skin but it keeps you so so warm and toasty.   And that on a bitter, icy winter’s day is priceless.  I love a bit of cashmere for myself but also for kids and babies who need to be even toastier than us.  I’m not talking a cupboard full but just one or two key pieces that can be worn with anything and everything.  The one big drawback for me has been that you have to dry clean cashmere which just becomes a huge pain (not to mention cost) with kids.  So I was delighted to be introduced to Papa Lobster who make beautiful and practical cashmere for kids – cashmere that can be thrown in the washing machine endless times.

Papa Lobster make a range of baby and kids clothes in beautiful colours – from muted camels and greys (which are my favourites) to vibrant fuchsia’s and royal blues.  I especially love their soft cashmere pants with the contrasting coloured waist ties and the cute cashmere hoodies.  Next time I want to get a cashmere piece for Anya I will be looking to Papa Lobster not just because of their beautiful styles but you just can’t beat the practicality of machine washable cashmere for kids.  In the meantime, what a lovely gift these pieces would make for a newborn.

"cashmere cardigan child"

One of the biggest joys of our new home is that we have our very own garden.  We’ve wanted one for ages but have never found the right home with the right garden and now we have.  Yay!  So even thought it’s cold and the garden is overgrown we still get out there for short bursts.  Normally when Anya goes out there I make her wear a coat which she finds a bit restrictive for her outdoor adventures.  But recently she was sent this gorgeously soft cashmere cardigan which is oh so warm.  So this Sunday I let Anya wear that with a couple of tee’s under and play outside for a bit and she didn’t once complain of being cold.

I love the stylish touches on this grey cashmere cardi like the mother of pearl buttons that go down the side rather than the middle.  This cardigan is great for dressing up or down too.  Anya’s worn it before with a long dusty pink tutu to a birthday party but this Sunday we were having a relaxed day and a late brunch with some friends so we dressed it down with skinny jeans and some cool orange boots.  The cardigan is made by the French Oscar et Valentine who also make some beautiful baby clothes as well as classic cashmere pieces for boys.  Many of their styles are timeless and classic and come in an understated and very French colour palette.  For something a little edgier, try one of their slogan cashmere jumpers with words like ‘milk’ or ‘rock’ on them – they’re pretty cool too.

Anya spent her time outdoors looking for caterpillars and when she couldn’t find any she pretended they were there anyway and started to collect little leaves to feed them.  If you’ve already got a garden (or back yard as my readers across the pond call it) then you know what a magical place it is for a kid.  And to be able to spend even a little time outside in Winter is a real treat.  As long as the weather’s not crazy cold, I think Anya will be donning her very warm cashmere cardi and heading out there every weekend!

"Italian cashmere clothes for baby and kids"

There is something so special about cashmere.  I don’t know if it’s the softness or the feel against your skin, but it is truly gorgeous stuff.  Recently I discovered Italian Cashmirino who create beautiful cashmere classics for babies and kids.  Anya and I visited their flagship store at the stunning Burlington Arcade in London and the clothes were really quite special.

Maria, who is the owner and designer has a very distinct and classic style.  All the clothes are timeless which makes them perfect to hand down from one sibling to another and even one generation to the next.  And for a change, there is loads for the boys too – maybe even more for boys than girls.  What I especially loved though was the baby collection.  Soft doesn’t even begin to describe it.  And the styles and colours seriously made me broody!  If you want to indulge in a bit of cashmere for your baby or kids, Cashmirino is the place to check out.

During our visit, while I browsed the clothes, Anya was given something a lot more fun to do.  She was offered the chance to design her very own cashmere jumper which she jumped at!  Cashmirino are running a fun competition where your kids can design a jumper and the winning design will be made in to a real Cashmirino jumper as part of their next Winter collection.  Anya was the first child to take part and she had great fun creating a design which you can see in the picture above (apologies for the quality of the pics – all iphone pics) . And as a thank you for taking part, the lovely designer Maria gifted her with a pair of the softest striped gloves – lucky Anya!  All kids are welcome to take part so if you’d like to join in just visit the Burlington Arcade, London store where your kids will be given a jumper template and coloured pens to get busy with while you can have a browse.  Maria will personally choose a winner and if you win, your jumper will be made for real.  How great will that be?  There’s also a little treat for each child that takes part.

Spring is in the air…

February 1, 2013

"scandinavian kids bed linen"I had my birthday in January.  Nothing unusual about this except January is the bleakest month of the year in this part of the world. So it’s really not a good month for a birthday but this year at least I managed to escape for some winter sun.  Growing up in Mumbai, January was the best month to have your birthday.  Most Indians don’t celebrate Christmas so there was no Christmas hangover to speak of, it was a new year, the weather was at it’s best and everybody was on a high.  How the tables have turned on me!  But as bleak as January is, come the 1st of February and it feels like everyone has a renewed vigour, a spring in their step, a positive outlook once again.  For me the 1st of February brings with it the hope of Spring and that’s what makes it special.  Today, it feels like the worst of winter is over and so to celebrate the coming of Spring I wanted to share my first Spring 2013 collection with you.  It’s a new brand from Sweden called Gabor & Friends and they make the most wonderful bed linen for babies, toddlers and kids.

"scandinavian bed linen kids"Stylish, sophisticated kids bed linen is hard to come by and that’s why when I saw Gabor & Friends I couldn’t wait to share.  On offer are duvet sets, blankets, crib bumpers and cushions.  The prints, like the bird one, are so pretty but the solid colours of sea green and salmon are equally appealing (my favourite I think is that Purple Rain snuggle blanket).  Most of the tones and shades used in Gabor & Friends’ Spring collection are soft, muted and understated except their cashmere-wool blankets that come in the boldest and brightest of colours.  Many of the pieces are 2 sided – a print on one side and a solid colour on the other giving you the option to change the look as you please.  I’m so loving this collection and looking at it really makes me feel like Spring is in the air.  Gabor & Friends don’t sell through their site but you’ll find their cashmere blankets at the lovely Scandinavian Minimall who will soon be stocking the rest of the collection.
