I’m a big fan of wooden things especially when the wood is left in it’s natural state and not painted or decorated in any way. From wooden toys to wooden furniture and even wooden bags, I like them all. Here is a selection of natural wooden things I’m currently loving for mamas and babies (that vintage rattan case – love!):
Oeuf NYC is a firm favourite on this blog and I’ve been meaning to share their latest cot offering – The Rhea Crib. I loved it when I saw it especially in the darker walnut colour. It’s modern style, clean lines and dark splendour got me at first sight.
While admiring the Rhea crib I also came across Oeuf’s new Spring/Summer 2013 campaign which shows lots of fun and colourful nurseries and kids rooms. I’m completely loving their choice of wallpapers especially the black floral one which is so impactful. And that neon dotted wall is another lovely touch. I love finding and sharing cool kids rooms and Oeuf’s new catalogue is full of playful and pretty ideas.
Last Friday I wrote about Fanny & Alexander, a wonderful store from Buenos Aires. In that post I mentioned that I am visiting Argentina in January (so excited!). I then got a lovely comment from one of my Argentinian readers and we began exchanging emails. Sadly I won’t be able to meet her as I am not visiting the city she lives in but it’s been fun chatting to her. That is one of my absolute favourite parts of writing this blog – hearing from you, my readers. I have had contact with many people from across the globe because of this blog and I hope to meet some of them one day. It was this Argentinian reader who told me about Krethaus and I was besotted. Thank you Soledad for sharing this lovely store.
Krethaus are also from Buenos Aires and make furniture, cushions, bedding and rugs for kids and babies. Their designs are simple with clean lines and muted colours. I’m totally loving all those cushions… how cute is the red mustache one? And that kids bed? I love the simple yet dramatic headboard and the natural wood. Using lots of natural materials throughout their creations all of Krethaus’ furniture is handmade making it even more special. They describe their designs as having a ‘quiet elegance’ and I have to agree. I am really loving discovering all these gorgeous stores from Buenos Aires and I shall be adding Krethaus to my list of places to visit when I am there. I don’t think Krethaus ship internationally yet but you could always drop them a line and I’m sure they’ll help.
Vintage baby furniture is oh so charming. And none more so than this vintage inspired cot on wheels. By the French Laurette Deco, this cot has mountains of style and just oozes charm. And the colours… soft yet impactful, muted yet bold and simply beautiful. Luckily I’m not in the cot market cos choosing one would be just too hard. But whichever one tickles your fancy, you just can’t go wrong. And being a cot on wheels, it’s rather handy to move your bambino around, especially in the super early (sleepless) days and nights. Any nursery with this cot is guaranteed to have the wow factor. This Roulotte cot is available from Bobo Kids in London. They’re not yet online but there’s always the good ol’ telephone. You can also check this beauty out at Laurette Deco where it costs €795 but you’ll have to brush up on your French skills. If you’re looking to splash out on your nursery, then this is a must have… vintage baby cots just don’t get much hotter than this!
Lust. That’s where I’m at today. These stunning coloured cots by Kalon Studios are the object of my lust. I’m staring wantingly at all the sumptuous colours on offer. I’m loving the bold straight lines contrasted with the dainty curved feet and the classic shape given a contemporary twist with the coloured rails. What beauties! Called Caravan Cribs, they’re made by a US-German team who pride themselves on sustainability and eco-friendliness. They come in sunny yellow, classic black, peachy pink, aqua blue and lime green. The Caravan Cribs converts to junior beds, cost $895 each and shipping to the UK costs $110. At that price, these beauties will have to remain objects of desire!
I wanted to get a quick post in about these divine cots from Brio. The Brio Sleep Cotbed, like much of what Brio offer, is hot property! But sadly they’re not going to be around for much longer. So think of this as a farewell note to a nursery great! If you’re super quick, you can probably just about grab one.
The Brio Sleep Cotbed is lovely and roomy. It measures 140cms x 70cms and starts life as a cot with 3 adjustable positions and eventually when your kiddo is ready, remove all the sides and you’ve got a junior bed. But there are other combos you can create in between. We’ve got one and I love it for it’s smooth, sleek lines, the curved ends, the glossy finish and the lovely colours. Choose from sunny yellow or raspberry red. The Brio Sleep Cotbed’ll last a good 5-6 years and costs £249 with free delivery from the lovely Lula Sapphire. It’s about the only place with any left. Bye, bye Brio Sleep – we’ll miss you!
UPDATE on 21.04.2011: Brio Sleep cot bed sold out at Lula Sapphire. You can try Funktionalley but they’re a lot more expensive on there.
For some more lovely coloured cots check out Kalon Studios Caravan Crib if you’re after a splurge. or if you’re looking for a style steal then have a look at the Ikea Somnat cots.
Calling all eco mums… a cot made from recyclable cardboard. I like the white one which you can customise with stickers, drawings, paint it or whatever takes your fancy. Its made by Kids Gallery and they donate 5% of the price to Unicef. I haven’t tried it but am seriously tempted… if ever there is an ebabee no.2. They say that the cot is the same height as an adult bed and measures 75 x 56 x 62 cms. It costs about £66 with the mattress and is available form the little fashion gallery .
I’ve just spotted these and had to share. They’re the new Somnat cots from ikea available in blue, a limey green and pink. I do love coloured cots and these are no exception. They’re sure to liven up any baby nursery, and the best part, wait for it… they’re just £49. They have 2 sleep positions, the mattress isn’t included and so far it’s only available in store, not online. Talk about style on a budget… it doesn’t get much better than this!
