wallpapers for kids rooms

One of the easiest ways to refresh a room is to add some wallpaper either as a feature wall or even wallpaper the entire room.  It’s usually not expensive to do and can change the look of a room in a few hours.   I’m a big fan of wallpaper for any room but especially for a kids room.  I usually prefer to stay away from anything too bright, colourful or themed as you want the wallpaper to grow with your kids.   One of the best ways to ensure this is to go for a playful yet subtle print in black and white or natural tones.  These kinds of wallpapers will stand the test of time often from babyhood to much, much older.

When planning a kids room, I always recommend choosing stuff that will grow with your child.  I’ve previously written some tips on how to design a room your kids won’t outgrow but today I wanted to share some of the cutest black and white wallpapers for a kids room that will stand the test of time.  These wallpapers are all stylish, playful and fun and they can be combined with any colour decor.  They’re all just as perfect for a nursery as they are for a 7 or 8 year olds room and everyone in between.  Here they are:

pastel decorations

With our new home renovations coming to an end, it’s now time to start thinking about the decorating –   about the furniture, the little objects and the personal touches that will turn this place from a house in to our unique home.  This is the exciting bit and the bit where we get to be creative and have lots of fun.  One  of the things I am very keen to do is to have a playful element in all our spaces.  I don’t want strictly grown-up zones and separate kid zones.  I don’t think we live like that anymore so every space in our home will be shared between the adults and the kids and I want this to show through in the decor.

cute pastel decorations for the home

I am not talking about toys strewn all over the living room or turning the dining table in to a kids craft centre, but instead picking out cute little objects, cushions and artworks that will work alongside the more grown up pieces.  One of the shop’s I’ve got my eye on to bring some kiddy cuteness in to my home is Eef Lillemore (don’t worry, I don’t know how to pronounce it either!).  They have some of the cutest decorations I’ve seen and I’m especially loving that panda tray for my kitchen and why not an ice-cream cushion for my living room?  And what about a few of those pastel posters for the bathroom?

Everybody needs a little dose of cuteness in their home and when you have kids, it’s the perfect excuse to introduce it in to every room.  I wouldn’t even object to some of that cloudy wallpaper in a hallway – so subtle and sweet.  Of course a lot of the stuff at Eef Lillemore would make such fun decorations in a kids room too – like those beyond adorable posters!  Something guaranteed to make you smile each morning, so why not have a little touch in every room?

"childrens themed wallpaper""childrens themed wallpaper jungle""childrens themed wallpaper town"

If you read this blog regularly, you’ll know I’m a huge fan of wallpaper.  So when I came across this new adorable range designed by Swedish artist Ingela Arrenhius, it was love.  I’m already a big fan of Ingela’s colourful and cute illustrations which are available as kids posters but now you can have a whole wall full of her sweet art.

True to Ingela’s style, these wallpapers are playful with a fun retro vibe.  All the wallpapers (and there are many designs) come in 2 colourways with each one designed to tell a story – from life in a town to life in a jungle and even life in space!  My favourite is the picture frames wallpaper which I’m loving for a vintage inspired kids room.  The beautiful styling is by Mokkasin and the wallpapers are available from Photowall.

"groovy magnetic wallpaper kids"

When I first saw these magnetic wallpapers I wasn’t sure but they’ve really grown on me.  I’ve been wanting to create a little inspiration board for myself and I’m now loving the idea of using one of these cool wallpapers.

"magnetic wallpaper for kids"

In our kitchen I want to create a wall where Anya can put up her drawings and this could be just the thing to use.  With magnets there’s no sticking and no mess so you can chop and change your wall hangings anytime you like.  I especially love that these Groovy Magnets wallpapers are for any room and any age.

"animal print wallpaper for kids"Today my wallpaper obsession is being fueled by these adorable modern designs by interior designers Sissy & Marley for Jill Malek.  These chic patterns come mostly in metallic silver or gold and the prints are small and subtle enough so even though they work really well in a nursery, they’d also work in an older child’s room.  Which is a relief as there is no DIY job worse than stripping wallpaper!  My favourite is the giraffes one but I can’t decide if I like the silver or gold better.  What’s your favourite?

Have a delightful weekend and see you on Monday.

"red white and blue kids wallpaper"Last week I received an email about a new wallpaper collection curated by Elisabeth Dunker in collaboration with Photowall.  I’m already a big fan of Elisabeth Dunkers work and her shop Fine Little Day so I knew it was going to be a goodie before I even opened the email.   I wasn’t disappointed. "black and white kids wallpaper"The collection consists of 5 wallpapers designed by various artists and curated by Elisabeth.  While all 5 designs are striking, my favourites are the 2 pictured here.  The first is called ‘Wooden Village’ and the second is ‘Mogu’.  I love the simple colours and the fun illustrations on both making them perfect for a kiddies room.  You can see the rest of the collection at Photowall.

"modern nursery bedding and cushions""cute rugs for kids rooms""modern nursery boutique uk"I’m loving this cute store that I just discovered.  The Modern Baby was started by Suzanne, a mama who had a vision of a store full of things that would grow with your child.  The Modern Baby has lots of colourful nursery and kids room decorations, bed linen, soft toys and so much more.  The product styles include modern, vintage and retro and the looks are all stylish and fun. It’s probably one of the best nursery ranges I’ve come across in a UK store.  I’m especially loving the way they’ve photographed their products which perfectly reflects the stores playful and stylish personality.  All the products featured are sold by The Modern Baby and the beautiful styling is thanks to talented design agency Supa Frank where you can see lots more photos to drool over.  While The Modern Baby is based in the UK they ship worldwide so go take a look… there’s lots to discover.

"world map wallpaper kids rooms"One of my biggest personal ambitions is to see as much of the world as I can and to share this experience with my husband and daughter.  I love discovering new cultures, cuisines and places that can seem so different yet familiar at the same time.  It fascinates me that the world is getting smaller and nearly everywhere is so accessible these days.  My husband and I have a list of places we ‘need’ to visit and are working our way through these whenever we can.  Top of our list for a long while had been Argentina and Uruguay and we eventually got there this January.  It was a thrill!  New list topper is China and we hope to make it there sometime in the next year or two.  We do spend far too much time dreaming about all the places we could see right away if we won the lottery… but then again, everyone’s got to have dreams! "map art in kids rooms"We would love our 4 year old daughter to grow up with a curiosity about our small world, about different yet similar cultures, about food and new experiences.  To encourage her we bought her a globe for her room and play silly, made-up travel games centered around where she lives, where her extended family live and where she’s going on holiday.  Now I’m considering re-doing her room and I’m thinking of complementing the globe with a map of the world on the wall.  She can then pin pictures, souvenirs, postcards or whatever she likes and really make it her personal map.  But I also think maps make lovely wall art and are as great as any other art for any room in the home.  "maps in kids rooms"So I  went on the hunt for some kids rooms with maps and the above are what I found.  The choices are many ranging from vintage to modern and single countries to the entire world.  They can be as colourful and artistic or as traditional and accurate as you like.  I’m also loving the idea of having a globe light.  Maps are great for encouraging a child to want to know more about our world or their country but they are fabulous wall candy too.

"black and white wallpaper"If you read my post on Ferm Livings latest collection, you will know that I am obsessing over the whole black and white Scandinavian interiors look.  I so badly want to create my own version of this look in my living room but can’t for practical reasons.  My only hope is moving house but it seems a bit excessive to move just because I want to re-decorate the living room!  So while I wait I’ve been dreaming of how I would decorate, and this black and white wallpaper by Fine Little Day is one of my favourites.  In my next home I know I’ve got to have this somewhere.  The same print also comes as a baby blanket and a cushion cover both of which I love too.  I went looking around the web to see rooms where this blanket, wallpaper or cushion has been used and these were some of my favourite black and white rooms:

"black and white nursery""black and white kids room""black and white scandinavian decor"Isn’t this wallpaper so striking?  It just brings all these rooms to life.  I love the nursery at the top which is nearly all white but has that stunning feature wall.  I also love the last picture where this wallpaper has been used to frame a door.  And the 2 pictures in the middle show the blanket and cushion which are so chic.  Have a happy weekend!

{Kids} wallpaper lust…

"kids circus wallpaper"

I love wallpaper.  Nearly every room in my home has some wallpaper either on the walls or I even use it to cover tables, chairs  and various other bits and pieces.  I often have this recurring dream where I move to a massive house and I have all these new blank walls to play with… such a sweet dream!  When it comes to kids wallpaper, I’m not always as keen because a lot of it can be too cutesy and colours can be bit too blah (think teddy bears prancing around in washed out shades).  But when I discovered Loboloup, ‘cutesy’ was a word that couldn’t have been further from my mind.  This circus themed wallpaper was the first one I saw and I loved the simple line style illustrations as well as the subtle colours brought to life with pops of bright orange.

Loboloup is a New York based boutique started by an aunt and niece team earlier this year.  So far, they only make a handful of modern kids wallpapers and a few matching cushions but what they do create is pretty cool like this ‘what’s your type’ wallpaper.  I love the deep blue colour and even though the design is busy it works because they’ve used different shades of just one colour.  And while modern in style, it still looks great with that vintage horse.  I found these papers at Wall-Library who have the entire range and also have some other fabulous designs (check out the Aimee Wilder collection).
