blue baby nursery decor ideas

With my current house renovation project I seem to be spending half my life on interiors sites, pinterest and browsing through interiors magazines.  I’m definitely not complaining!  Recently I’ve noticed a bit of a trend for using deep, dark blues in interiors like indigo and petrol blue.  These deep blues are not colours you find everywhere so they are still quite unusual and really stand out.  While they look great in dining rooms and living rooms, I think these blues would look equally fabulous in a nursery or kids room – for boy or girl.  So I felt inspired to put together a mood board for a kids room using various shades of deep blue with touches of lighter blue.

One of my first ports of call for finding cute things for kids rooms in the UK is Petit Home one of my sponsors.  It’s run by a French lady who has a real mix of styles in her shop so there is something for every taste.  From quirky pieces like that rabbit light to more understated things like the bed linen she has.  I picked a few of my favourite pieces and mixed them up with with some others to create this blue kids room moodboard.  Here’s where you’ll find everything:

1.  storage baskets | 2. elephant mobile | 3. moon poster | 4. stars garland  | 5. cat print cushion | 6. star cushion | 7.  bow print bedlinen | 8. baby rabbit night light | 9. play tent

"wooden toy puppet set"colourful elephant mobile nurserywooden stars stacking game

Today it’s a colourful start to the week with these beautiful wooden toys and decorations.  For me, the simplest toys are always the best.  They allow a child to use their imagination and what is better than that?  These toys which include stacking stars and wooden puppets are not only beautiful to look at but are just the kind of toys that encourage all kinds of pretend play.  And then there are the sweet decorations including that colourful elephant garland.  These wooden decorations and toys are the creation of New York based designer Laura Rodriguez who wanted to make designs that were playful and simple and that appealed to the whole family.  Laura’s creations called Luez designs are meant to bring a smile to your face and a bit of cheer to any room in your home which is exactly what they do.

"blakc and white nursery decor ideas"At the moment I can’t seem to get enough of Scandinavian style black & white interiors.  It’s such a clean and striking look for any room.  So I’ve put together some things I’m really loving for a Scandi inspired black & white baby nursery.

1. Hand knit Paris garland…  2. Bear of few words A4 print…  3. Tree adorned crib bedding…  4. Black and birch high chair…  5.  Stripey cloud cushion…  6. Raindrop wall stickers…  7.  Jealous baby soft toy.

"gray nursery decor ideas"I love grey.  As I’m getting older I think I’m loving it more and more not only as a colour to wear but also as a colour to decorate with.  I’m especially loving it for a nursery because I find the colour quite calming.  And besides you can add hints of practically any other colour and it will work with grey.  So when I saw this delightful new Elephant crib by Oeuf NYC I thought it would be fun to put together a few things to go with it.  The Elephant crib is Oeuf’s latest offering and it really does resemble an elephant, don’t you think?  I love the playful design as well as the rounded edges and the whole modern vibe.  Here are my picks for a modern grey nursery:

1.  Plum & pink hearts garland…  2. Mary Poppins poster…  3. Grey sheep duvet set…  4. Knitted sheep soft toy…  5. Elephant crib…  6. Hanging pendant lights

"colourful toys and nursery decor"

Once in a while a drop of sunshine falls in to my inbox and brightens my day.  This is definitely one of those times.  When I visited Sunday in Colour I felt like someone had just given me the warmest hug ever.  This is a new US store that has the most colourful European brands on offer and sells quilts, soft toys, nursery decorations and more  Started by a French mama now settled in San Francisco, Sonia is addicted to bold prints and patterns for both boys and girls.  You won’t find separate boys and girls sections in this store but instead it’s lashings of colour and vibrant, eye-catching prints for all.  Apart from the wonderful offerings, I also love the way that Sonia has photographed and presented everything.  This is such a charming little store and one that really makes you feel all warm and fuzzy when you visit.  Sunday in Colour only ships to the US at the moment but they plan to start international shipping in the new year.

UPDATE Jan 2013: Sunday in Colour now ships internationally.

"paper garlands for kids rooms"

There is something so cheerful and celebratory about garlands.  Hang them up in a kids room and they add an instant dose of happiness.  I’m a huge fan of garlands for kiddy spaces and I can’t resist sharing when I see some as gorgeous as these.  Hand made of paper and shaped like tiny clouds, these garlands come in a range of colourways.   They’re the creation of Virginie Sannier, a French textile designer with a penchant for paper.  Virginie also makes some lovely cards and stationery all of which you can view at her shop called Miavril.   You’ll get these limited edition garlands there too but you can also try French Blossom who have a selection.

"kids birthday party bunting"

I’m a bit garland, bunting, pom pom obsessed so when I saw these colourful ones on Style Cookie I just had to feature them.  Garlands and pom poms are an inexpensive way to add a splash of colour to any kids room or a kids party and they look so fabulous too.  These bold and bright ones are by the Dutch Engel who say that hanging these up makes you feel happy and I couldn’t agree more.  There’s something so celebratory and cheerful about pom poms and garlands.

"honeyomb pom poms"

I’m loving these honeycomb pom poms too and think it’s a fab idea to hang some above a kids bed.  I bet that would bring a smile to your face each morning.  These ones come in a huge range of divine colours so choosing just one colour is going to be hard.  I’m loving the sunny yellow but I also love the deep, rich plum colour.  You can visit Engel to see all the range or visit Lifes a Party where they have a selection.

Colourful things…

"colourful nursery decor"

Yesterday was holi, the Indian festival of colour where you get together with friends and family and everybody smears each other with colour.  And of course there’s lots of eating and drinking and making merry!  Being Indian, I couldn’t stop thinking about the great times I’ve had in the past as holi really is one of the most fun festivals for adults but even more for kids.  So I thought about doing a ‘colourful holi’ inspired post and with that in mind, I’ve picked out 4 super colourful kiddy things that I’ve liked this week and hopefully you will too:

1.  I love these tiny little birds that can be made in to so many things like a nursery garland, a brooch, nursery decorations and much more.  These pretty birdies are from a shop called Moloco.

2.  Shiny, bright fruit and vegetable wooden spinning tops by Londji.  Sometimes it’s the traditional toys that are the most fun especially if they look as good as these.

3.  These felt baby shoes are just adorable.  I love their simple shape and the gorgeous colours.  These booties are one to make yourself and you’ll find the instructions over at Purlbee.

4.  I’ve been eyeing this colourful tassel garland for ages now.  I can just picture a bright white nursery adorned with this large stylish garland to add a splash of colour.  You’ll find this at Confetti System.

"star shapes nursery garland"

I’m extremely partial to a beautiful nursery garland.  I’ve been looking out for one for my daughter’s room but the problem is choosing just one. I’ve come across so many beauties that I want them all.  Today I’m drooling over these stunning ones by Les Petites Emplettes.  It’s their simplicity that makes them so desirable and stylish.  Uncomplicated silhouettes of stars, trains and sheep in plain grey felt make for nursery garlands so beautiful.  I’m thinking the sheep one may be the one for my daughter.  For me, less is always more and this is a perfect example of that philosophy.  Visit Les Petites Emplettes where you’ll find these garlands and lots more kids stuff that is super simple but super stylish or there’s a little selection at Smallable.com

"nursery decorations garlands"

I am very excited to share these gorgeous garlands with you.  They’re from BHLDN, a wedding store so extraordinary.  These garlands may be for weddings but they would make stunning decorations in a nursery or a play space.  I am on the look out for a garland for ebabee no.1’s room and I think I have just found it.  It’s the butterflies and flowers one that I’m picking for her room… so girly, so pretty.  BHLDN is truly an exquisite store and if any of you mama’s are planning your nuptials, this is THE go to shop.  Today I’ve picked out the garlands to share with you but there are other beautiful decorations that would add the wow factor to any nursery or kids room.  Visit BHLDN where these garlands cost between £10 and £25 and international shipping is offered.

P.S. BHLDN is the sister store of Anthropologie.  Anthropologie is another fabulous store packed with goodies so, so desirable and a store that I have featured before.
