"how to stick to your resolutions"

Each year I make some resolutions (or goals which is the word I prefer) either for my work or perosnal life or most often for both.  But in all honesty, come March/April they are long forgotten and or at least I haven’t stuck to them.  This year I want things to be different.  There are of course changes I want to make but I need to find a way to stick to them.  When I started thinking about this last week and wondering how I could be better at sticking to my goals, it suddenly hit me as to where I was going wrong.  In the past I’ve sat down and made a general list (either on paper or in my head) of big changes I want to make, without much thought given to how I was going to make these changes.  After a while these changes can start to feel overwhelming and I would mostly end up not pursuing them at all.

One of my goals for this blog is to mix the content up a bit more.  While I don’t plan to stop featuring gorgeous kids stuff, I want to add more DIY, recipes, personal family experiences, my own styled shoots etc.  This can feel like a big task (especially with a huge house renovation project coming up and my new shop to add to my normal workload) because creating more of my own content will take time.  As an example, an idea for one post struck me today.  In the past this idea would have been added to a list, I would have tried to plan how I’m going to do this along with other stuff over the course of the year, where I’ll find time, trying to put a list of ideas together for the year – no more. I took the simple step of emailing the brand that I wanted to collaborate with and that’s it for today.  When (and if) they come back to me, I shall take the next little step.  It might seem like the obvious thing to do but I know that I definitely wasn’t doing it right in the past.

So this year my resolutions don’t look anything like big, huge things to accomplish.  Instead I have a rough idea of the big picture in my head but that is not my focus at all.  My focus is doing at least one small thing each day that will over the period of the year, add up to my big goals.  I am not going spend time thinking about the big end goal but all I want to think about is what is that one little thing I can do today.  That’s it – just one small step every day.

After one year I shall see if this little daily method works for me or not.  Have you made goals for the year? Do you usually stick to them?  If you do, I’d love to hear how you manage to make it happen. Maybe you already do one small thing each day?

"happy Christmas from ebabee"

Dear readers,

Wishing you and your families a happy and joyful Christmas full of love and laughter.  I hope you are all surrounded by your loved ones and have a warm and happy festive break.

Thank you all for your wonderful support this year.  Not just with the blog but with my new shop too.  Personally for me, this year has had some ups and downs but it has also been a big year in many ways – new shop and new home.  I hope to grow my shop in 2015 and of course continue with this blog with new ideas, collaborations and inspiration.

Once again thank you for coming here everyday and for all your likes, comments and love on facebook too.  I will be taking a break to spend some time with my family and will see you back here on January 5th.  But there will be some exciting shop news in between so keep a look out for that.

Happy, happy 2015 to you all!

New beginings

"moving house ebabee"

Today I say goodbye to my home of 8 years plus – by far the longest I have ever lived in any one home.  Growing up I never lived in any house for more than a maximum of four years but usually less as my father had a job that was transferable.  I was born in Mumbai then moved to Prague then on to Hong-Kong.  After Hong-Kong it was back to Mumbai then London and next New York.  After that it was back to Mumbai and then I moved on my own to London to pursue my career in advertising.  I always planned to go back home to Mumbai but it never happened.  At the start of my life in London I moved homes a lot.  Then I got married and Richard and I bought this place a few years later and we’ve been here ever since.  I still remember the moment when we picked up the keys; the sheer excitement we felt.  It was our first proper home together which meant the world to us.  Three years after being here Anya came along.  More joy and more memories were created in this home.

Each room, each wall, each floorboard here has a story to tell.  Everywhere I turn in this home it’s full of wonderful memories – from the hand drawn height chart on the kitchen wall to each and every mark on my off-white carpet (yes I was over optimistic).  Many crazy fun parties have taken place here with secrets shared between friends over too much wine and many a night have Richard and I sat awake and watched the sun come up while agonising over a big decision in our lives or celebrating a positive moment.  These walls have heard a lot.  Perhaps the greatest memory this home holds is the birth of Anya.  This is the place where we welcomed her in to the world with equal amounts of love, awe and trepidation (being first time parents).  This is also the last home of mine that my father will ever have seen.  But these memories are etched in to my mind and I will always have them.

I guess I needed to write this post as much like this blog, this home is so much a part of my life, my story.  That living room in the top two pictures has been my home-office too.  That is where this blog began and where I hit publish on my first ever post.  That is the room where I conceived the idea for my new shop and packaged the very first order from.  But now it’s time to move on.  Our new home has everything we could want from a home but it needs a lot of work.  It’s exactly the place we imagined living in so we are really lucky to have found it. Once the work is done, in a few months time, we can enjoy our new space as a family and start making new memories there – I can’t wait.  As I close the door on this place I look forward with huge excitement to the change and the huge challenges ahead.  But while a I do that, a small part of me will always miss this home.

Do you feel sad when you move home or is it pure excitement for you? Any tips for quick settling in to a new place?

I won’t be posting tomorrow as I’m not sure I’ll have internet but hopefully I will be back to normal posts soon.  You have a wonderful weekend and see you next week.

A huge thank-you to Abigail Fahey for the beautiful photo’s she took of my home.

"fruit poster for kids room"

I spend half my life researching stuff on the net to share on this blog.  And often I come across delightful or funny little things that I want to share but they don’t really fit in to posts.  So once in a while I like to share them here.  My recent fun finds include this playful pear poster and here are the rest:

About to become a parent?  Practice these 11 (hilarious) steps and you’ll have mastered parenting!

Boys can wear polka dots too. How cool does he look?

This striking neon reindeer may be sold out why not try making it as a Christmas craft?

Your little boy will love you even more if you make this easy Washi tape DIY in his bedroom.

Don’t have space for a Christmas tree? Why not get creative with an alternate tree like this?

Have a great weekend all – x

"kids say the funniest things"

Of late, Anya has been coming up with some random and funny things during our conversations.  She’s nearly six and the way her mind works is quite hysterical sometimes.   I’m so glad I’ve started writing them down because they’ll be such fun to look back on in a few years time.  Do you keep a note of what your kids say?  Here are some of Anya’s latest thoughts which I thought I would share:

Me: You know, one day you’ll grow big and you’ll probably be even bigger than me.
Anya (looking delighted): That means one day I’ll be 35 years old and you’ll be 30. Wow! (I wish)

On our walk to school earlier this week
Me: Anya, I’m really cold. Are you cold?
Anya: No mama, I’m fine.
Me: Oh well, at least you’re not cold. I wish I’d worn a scarf so that my neck was warm at least.
Anya (in all seriousness): At least your boobies are warm! (what?!!)

Anya was going to a teddy bears picnic at school
Me: You can choose a teddy bear to take to your teddy bears picnic
Anya: Are you allowed to bring a different kind of teddy bear?
Me: Like what?
Anya: Like an Octopus?

Anya: Mama, when will I have babies in my tummy?
Me: Not for another 25 years at least.
Anya: That’s too long. Can I have them in 25 minutes?

What are some of the funny things your kids have said?  I’d love to hear in the comments.

Have a lovely weekend full of laughter – x

Halloween-cat-girl-outfit-DIY

Happy Halloween!  After trying a whole load of outfits, in the end Anya decided on being a cat or a cat girl.  The outfit was really easy to put together so if you’re still looking for a last minute costume idea, this is the one to go for.

"halloween cat DIY outfit"

To put this cat outfit together, all you need is charcoal or black tights and top (Anya wears a super soft charcoal polo neck sweater) or you can even go for any other dark colour like chocolate brown or navy.  Next cut some ears from card paper, paint them black and I have attached with simple bobby pins.  Then you need a mask which I have painted on with face paint or you make one from card paper.  Last, take a piece of black fabric or whatever colour your outfit is and roll it up to look like a tail.  You could use anything you have at home like a scarf or any piece of fabric.  And finally attach on to tights with a safety pin. Done! So what are your kids going as? I’d love to hear in the comments.

Have a very Happy Halloween!

panda-face-test

I’ve never been a fan of face painting until I had a go myself.  I love it now – it’s such a satisfying thing to do. Who would have ever thought!  Have you tried it?  But I’m still not in to the versions where the whole face is painted or designs with lots of glitter and swirls – you know the kind I mean.  Keeping it simple with one or two colours is my favourite way.

So with Halloween coming up I’ve been asking Anya what she would like to go as.  Her latest obsession is pandas possibly because she has recently been given a panda soft toy.  So this week the choice was panda and I quite liked that it was something other than witches, ghouls and ghosts.  With Halloween costumes again, the simpler the better for me and I prefer the homemade kind rather than shop bought.  So armed with my face painting set,  I thought I’d have a quick trial run at transforming her in to a panda.  She was really happy with the look and may go as that to her Halloween party on Friday.  It’s far from perfect but that’s what I like about it and I think it’s pretty panda-ish don’t you?  Although Richard’s first comment as he walked through the door was ‘who’s that? Alice Cooper?!’

Have a great weekend full of silly fun!

P.S. Have you seen our all new shop?  It’s full of adorable clothes for girls and boys that you won’t find anywhere else in the UK.

"thank you ebabee shop discount"

It’s Friday finally.  It’s been a crazy week here with lots of highs and lows and of course the highlight has been the launch of my very own kids clothing shop.  It’s been a dream of mine for so long that I still can’t quite believe it’s now a reality.  But nothing feels better than making a dream come true.  I am feeling proud and very grateful.  Grateful to all of you who have taken the time to leave encouraging words, who have visited the shop and given me your feedback, who have bought stuff already, who have shared my shop with your friends and overall been so incredibly supportive.  So as a big THANK-YOU to you all, I’d like to offer you a special discount – 10% off everything in the shop for today and this whole weekend.  Just use the code: THANKS01 at checkout.

Thank you all and have a wonderful weekend!  x

"kids say the funniest things"

We often talk to Anya about what she wants to be when she grows up.  It’s such a fun conversation to have with kids as they often come up with the funniest things.  As a little girl, my mum tells me that I used to say I’m going to be a peanut shop owner because I loved peanuts!  Recently Anya came home from school very excited because she said she had decided what she wanted to be when she grew up.  Here’s how the conversation went:

Anya (really excited): Mama, do you know what I want to be when I grow up?
Me: No. Tell me, tell me.
Anya: I want to be a teacher.
Me: Wow! That’s great. It’s so nice that you want to help children learn and teach them everything you know.
Anya: No mama, I just want to tell everyone what to do!

That’s my bossy baby!  So what do your kids say?  Have they come up with a funny profession or like Anya, just cracked you up with their innocent honesty?  I’d love to hear in the comments.

Have a great weekend everyone and enjoy the little gems your kiddies come out with.  x

"the best jungle themed kids room"

It’s Friday finally.  I wanted to end this week with some fun finds from across the web starting with this amazing jungle themed kids room.  If you’re going to create a themed room, this is how to do it!

Wondering how to store all those art masterpieces your kids create?  This free app will make it easy.

This is funny – peek-a-boo gone wrong.

Your kids want a car shaped bed but you’re not keen on the looks of them?  You’ll change your mind after you see these.

These glitter ice-cubes are so fun especially to add a bit of sparkle to a birthday party.

How many of these parenting lies have you told and here’s what you actually mean.

This has got to be the whackiest Halloween costume ever!

Have a great weekend friends.  What are your plans? I’ll mostly be working on my new project which I’m so excited about and can’t wait to share with you very soon. x
