Yesterday I was browsing the latest collection at Caramel Baby and Child when I spotted these cool cushions and toy storage bucket bags. I discovered that these gorgeous silk printed goodies are made by Ah Quel Plaisir, started by Belgian born Caroline Halusiak. The toy storage buckets are made of canvas and embellished with beautiful animal prints in soft tones. They come in 3 sizes but all are on the small side so they’re just the ticket for small toy storage. The star and cloud shaped cushions are stylish, fun and playful, the perfect combo for kid’s room decor. The cushions and bucket bags cost around £45 each from Caramel’s shop.

Love for Lovi
October 11, 2011
While flitting about the Scandinavian Design Show on the weekend, I spotted some birdies that grabbed my attention. I made my way to the stall where I discovered Lovi. Lovi is a Finnish brand that makes beautiful little birds, trees and hanging ornaments out of birch plywood. Once I laid eye’s on the birds I couldn’t stop thinking of the endless decoration possibilities for any space but especially for a nursery. Think eye-catching nursery hanging decorations or perched on a book shelf or even make your own unique baby mobile. Also on offer are a pig and a reindeer as well as some hanging hearts and baubles. And then there are the magnificent trees… a Christmas one and another one.
The wooden birds and animals all come flat packed like a postcard; the idea is that you can send it to someone… what a lovely surprise to receive in the post. Lovi’s goodies are some serious eye-candy. They’re beautifully made, come in a range of colours and would add a touch of enviable style to any space in your home. Hus & Hem sell the birds for £12.95 or check out Lovi for the entire range.
P.S. I do have a thing for bird decorations for a nursery. If you do too, have a look at this elegant paper bird mobile from Japan and this sweet bird mobile that you can decorate yourself.
Hand made soft toys and nursery art by Kate Durkin
October 10, 2011
On the weekend while browsing Buy Modern Baby, I came across Kate Durkin and I couldn’t wait to share her goodies with you. Kate makes the loveliest nursery art and some adorable throw pillows in animal shapes. The pillows are also perfect as hug-able soft toys for babies and young kids. Her style is clean and simple which gives her goodies their huge appeal. I love all the artwork… there’s a certain softness of style and a sophistication which makes them appealing for kids and adults too. The pillows too would look equally at home on a living room sofa or in a kiddy space. I’m extremely partial to style that has no age boundaries and that’s what Kate manages to do so well. The soft toys cost from $28 and the prints from $18. Kate Durkin is based in New York but she ships worldwide from her Etsy store.
Nursery style: Sunny yellow
October 7, 2011
I love a yellow nursery or toddler room. It’s happy, it’s sunny and it works for boy or girl. So I’ve put together some yellow nursery ideas with a few of my favourite things:
1. Pip Early bird wallpaper – Bright and bold with an oriental-esque vibe. The Pip early bird wallpaper costs £56.39 for a roll from Tangled Tree Interiors.
2. Ouef NYC Sparrow crib – A beautiful crib with simple lines and an elegant shape. I love the crisp white against the bright yellow wallpaper. You can get this crib at Huggle who don’t yet sell online but you can call them.
3. La Voliere Pendant Lamp – a stunning light with little birds made with real feathers sat in a cage. This bird cage light comes from the Conran Shop and costs £369.
4. Linero Sol Abc poster – I’m a big fan of mixing styles so I picked this alphabet poster for it’s good looks and it’s retro/ vintage feel. The lovely poster is from L’affiche Moderne for €39.
5. Pom Pom garland – A little splash of colour in the form of delicate pom pom bunting. This pom pom garland is from a store called Happy Circus on Etsy and it costs £15.50.
6. Acapulco Mini chair – Love this chair. Hand made in Mexico, this chair is so elegant and beautiful. There is an adult version too in case you’re tempted! Nest have it for sale for £147.
7. Lucky boy sunday soft toys – I love Lucky boy sunday. So quirky, so cool. And what’s a nursery without soft toys? Perched on the chair is Kiki doll and the one lying under the cot is Bow Jovi. You’ll find these two and more at Little Fashion Gallery where they cost from around €40.
8. Lale quilt – last but not least is the quilt by one of my favourite French brands Lale. This quilt has little roses printed on it and on the reverse there’s an orange scallop print. Just beautiful. This Lale quilt costs £80.20 from smallable.com
Studio violet: Charming circus themed porcelain set
October 6, 2011
I chanced upon my Studio Violet post the other day and I fell in love all over again. I just love the work that the design duo Elisabeth and Camilla put together. So creative and so beautiful. I had a look around to see if they’d done anything new. I didn’t find anything new but I did find something old. This circus porcelain set… it was instant love. Charming vintage looking porcelain plates and cups adorned with the Studio Violet characters joined together in a circus theme. It’s just delightful. This set was a special commission so isn’t for sale any more (believe me I did look as I was so tempted) but I wanted to share it as I thought you would love it too.
Studio Violet the shop is no longer open but you can get their wares and other goodies at Fine Little Day (Elisabeth’s shop) or you can have a look at Camilla’s site.
Mushrooms, but not like you know them!
October 5, 2011
I was window shopping at Sweet William when I spotted some mushrooms. I’m not talking chestnut, shitake or enoki even but mushrooms of a kind I had never laid eyes on… these gorgeously quirky mushroom plush toys! They’re cool, quirky, whimsical and ever so unique. I decided to dig a little further and found out that these soft toys are designed and hand made in California by H-Luv. Heidi Iverson is the talent behind H-Luv and she uses materials with minimal environmental impact to create her unique wares. Also by H-Luv are other plush toys including handmade owls, russian dolls, cats and more. New York based Sweet William sell these mushrooms which cost from $42 plus $14 for International shipping.
And for more quirky hand made soft toys have a look at these gorgeous soft elephant dolls and don’t miss these poetic Pigmee soft toys!
Kids posters by the talented Ms Arrenhuis
October 4, 2011
I was browsing fab.com the other week when something bold and bright caught my eye. I clicked and I was confronted with the most delicious kids posters by Ingela Arrhenuis. How amazingly attractive are these posters? They’re fun, they’re super colourful and they instantly made me smile. Be it a nursery space, a toddler room or even a play space for older kids, these posters will instantly bring the walls to life… just check out the pictures of the rooms above. You could be bold and go for many or stick to one or two for that splash of colour.
Ingela is a Swedish lady who describes her style as naive and one that is influenced by her love of designs from the 50’s and 60’s. There’s a definite vintage-retro vibe to these glorious posters but with a contemporary twist. I am truly in love! You can get a selection of posters from Hus & Hem where they cost £18.95 each. There are also some animal puzzles on offer which are seriously tempting and I don’t mean just for the kids!
Hot winter style: Alpaca wool clothes and accessories
October 3, 2011
This recent burst of beautiful hot weather may have fooled us in to hoping that summer’s on it’s way back. Sadly, we all know that’s not going to happen. But it’s not all bad news… once you see the offerings from Fournier you’ll be wishing for the cold to come now. Fournier hand craft baby and childrens clothes in Bolivia. Made from the finest baby alpaca wool, the clothes and accessories are super fashionable too which means they’re going to keep your bambinos warm in style. Amongst the offerings are simple but trendy dresses and knitted hats, stunning handmade crocheted necklaces and the cutest little sheep bag I’ve seen. I can picture the fuchsia dress being worn with knitted leggings and chunky boots for a super stylish winter look. And to complete the look, wear one of the necklaces or scarfs on offer. I’m so loving the necklace made of little hand knitted balls. Visit Fournier to check out their entire range. Prices start from around $15 and shipping is worldwide.
Whimsical mice mobiles for babies
September 29, 2011
How cute are these mice mobiles and nursery decorations? I’m not a fan of real mice (eeek!) but these ones would be more than welcome to share my home. Hand made in France by Rose Minuscule, these mice are full of little details and intricacies to capture your child’s imagination. Just look at their clothes and accessories… I’m loving the polka dotted trousers on the mouse who’s reading and don’t miss his oh so trendy cap too. These mice nursery decorations will make whimsical mobiles for babies or unique wall decor for older kids. You’ll find these curious cuties over at Design from Paris where they cost between €59.90 and €70. You can also go direct to Rose Minuscule but you’ll need to brush up on your French first!
If you want to see more adorable mice, then checkout this Maileg mouse that comes with a cheese house!
Striking art for your nursery walls
September 28, 2011
I am seriously in love with these striking prints not just as nursery art or play room art, but for an adult space too. I love a find that has no age boundaries and this is definitely one of those. The colours are beautiful… so vibrant and bold and the tones so complimentary. If I had to choose a favourite I think it would have to be the peacock art work. Birds often embellish baby room decor but it’s not often that the majestic peacock makes an appearance. Then again I do love the one called ‘Elephant with a big dream’ too. Created by Keith, an illustrator and graphic designer from Hong-Kong, his art is his unique take on nature and animal life. Keith sells this beautiful nursery (or not nursery!) art over at his etsy store called Dekanimal and the prints cost from $20 plus worldwide shipping at $3.50.
