A special delivery…

April 15, 2013

"handmade crochet toys""handmade crochet rattle toy"Last Friday, we received a wonderful surprise in the post, all the way from Buenos Aires.  The super talented Adriana Torres sent us this delightful crochet lion rattle in a bed.  I have long been a fan of Adriana’s handmade creations which include adorable crochet toys, blankets and home wares.  This little lion with his beautiful blanket and bed is super cute and has already charmed my daughter (and me!).  Adriana’s brand is Miga de Pan where you can see more of her work or if you’d like to buy any of her creations, you’ll find a selection at Couverture.  If you haven’t come across Miga de Pan before then I seriously urge you to take a look… you won’t be disappointed.  And of course, a huge thanks to Adriana for this very special delivery.

"wooden construction toys"

The thought of Argentina conjures up such a romantic, beautiful, colourful image in my mind and I just know it won’t disappoint.  That’s why I’m dying to visit… maybe one day.  In the meantime, while my fascination with the country continues to grow, I have discovered that there are some very cool kids toys and designs coming out of there.  It all began with some wonderful crochet toys I found and since then I’ve discovered more with my latest find being these delightful wooden construction toys.

"kids construction toys wood"

Mamell toys are all made by Argentinian craftsmen using only wood found in Argentina.  The toys come in natural wood with bursts of colour.  Many of the toys have a strong vintage vibe which just adds to their charm and appeal.  A lot of construction toys these days are a bit too modern looking (for my taste anyway) with sharp lines and linear shapes but not these.  They are a pleasure to look at with their soft shapes and curves and I’m sure to touch and feel too.

I seriously am very taken by these beautiful toys and I don’t think I’ll be able to resist the Mamell store if I ever make it to Argentina!  In the meantime, I shall admire from afar.  The Mamell site is currently under construction but you can visit them at their blog and contact them if you wish to buy.

"red bowl for kids"

Yesterday I came across Hoto, a small pottery studio in Buenos Aires, Argentina.  They’re only a few months old and so far they make just one thing… this lovely soup bowl, but it’s not just about the bowl.  It’s called Little Red Cap and it’s a bowl with a story.  There are 4 different illustrations within the bowl that tell a visual Little Red Riding Hood type story but there’s more.  The artist has brought the tale to life by creating a background of trees and wolves that come with the bowl.  So while your little one is eating, you can set up the background and tell the story with the lovely props.  I think the idea is so creative, so unusual, so lovely and I hope Hoto make more such themed plates and bowls.  The packaging too deserves a mention… the round box with the hanging wolves is simple but very stylish.  You can find out more at Hoto’s site where you can buy the bowl too and they ship internationally. What a fantatsic idea!

P.S. Have you entered our giveaway yet? $100 voucher to be won!
