machine washable cashmerecashmere baby blanket with cable patternmachine washable cashmere cardigan

There’s something so lux and special about wearing cashmere.  Not only does it feel soft against the skin but it keeps you so so warm and toasty.   And that on a bitter, icy winter’s day is priceless.  I love a bit of cashmere for myself but also for kids and babies who need to be even toastier than us.  I’m not talking a cupboard full but just one or two key pieces that can be worn with anything and everything.  The one big drawback for me has been that you have to dry clean cashmere which just becomes a huge pain (not to mention cost) with kids.  So I was delighted to be introduced to Papa Lobster who make beautiful and practical cashmere for kids – cashmere that can be thrown in the washing machine endless times.

Papa Lobster make a range of baby and kids clothes in beautiful colours – from muted camels and greys (which are my favourites) to vibrant fuchsia’s and royal blues.  I especially love their soft cashmere pants with the contrasting coloured waist ties and the cute cashmere hoodies.  Next time I want to get a cashmere piece for Anya I will be looking to Papa Lobster not just because of their beautiful styles but you just can’t beat the practicality of machine washable cashmere for kids.  In the meantime, what a lovely gift these pieces would make for a newborn.

black and white room decorations

Ever since I can remember I’ve been drawn to minimal, simple, monochrome style.  When Anya was born and someone wanted to gift me a blanket for her, they asked what colour I wanted expecting a reply like pink or yellow.  My reply was off white or black and white.  My mum was horrified!  Horrified that I was subjecting my child to a colourless life!  But you know what – black, white and neutral tones can be so stunning in a kids room just like these decorations show us.  I can’t help but be drawn to things like that cat poster and that gorgeously simple pear pillow.  They can always be mixed with pops of colour so you can add as little or as much brightness as you like.  I won’t be giving up my black and white obsession any time soon so I’ve found some gorgeous black and white kids room decorations to share with you:

1.  grid pear pillow | 2. knitted bunny blanket | 3. girl doll cushion | 4. ball string lights | 5. cat poster | 6. whale chalkboard

pink and grey nursery decor

When you think of a baby nursery, you probably think of colours like white, yellow, powder blue or pink.  The one colour that probably doesn’t come straight to mind is grey and yet it’s such a fantastic colour for a nursery.  It can be mixed in with any other soft colour to create a calming atmosphere.  My favourite colour combo right now is dusty pink and lightish grey.  I can’t seem to move away from these two colours together so I thought I would go looking for some pink and grey nursery decor ideas and here’s what I found.  I’m especially loving that three little pigs mobile – so cute!

1. fox print | 2. animal wall hooks | 3. piggy mobile | 4. knitted wool blankets | 5. star cushions | 7. house shelves

Have you seen the stunning new Spring/Summer 2015 collection from Oyoy?  Oyoy is a Danish interiors brand for kids and adults and in true Scandinavian style, they make bold and beautiful cushions, soft toys, blankets, bedding and more.  From the new collection for kids, it’s the soft toys that are really standing out for me but then again the adventure rug (pictured second from top) and the circle rug are very cool too.

The soft toys aren’t just toys but  cushions too so they’re equally good for playing with or decorating with.  These are the kind of playful cushions that I wouldn’t even object to having in my living room – especially that turtle!  Then there’s the adventure rug in striking black and off white which would be so much fun in any kids room.  And the circle rug – simple, minimal but so eye-catching.  Forget the kids, I want that for my room over some light wooden floors.  While I’m lusting after their kids stuff, their grown-up things are equally lust-worthy so they’re worth checking out too.  I’m just glad I have a whole house to do up soon so I may just have an excuse to indulge in some of this!

Polar bear themed decor

"bear themed decor kids room"

Polar bears as we all know are one of the most dangerous creatures on earth but they look completely the opposite.  They look so soft and furry, cuddly and cute that it seems impossible that they could harm.  Dangerous or not, they do make adorable decor for a kids room.  They lend themselves to all kinds of kids stuff from bedding to cushions and so much more.  And besides their cute looks, I love the whole black and white colour scheme which is both modern and stylish.  So today I’ve picked out some of the best polar bear themed decor for a kids rooms.  How fun is that bookshelf?

1.  Bear head wall art | 2.  bear print baby blanket | 3. polar bear plate | 4. bear soft toy cushion | 5. polar bear cushion | 6. the last polar bear poster | 7.  bear duvet set | 8. polar bear bookshelf

"Scandinavian homewares and kids clothes"While browsing La Petite, I recently discovered this sister duo who design homewares, kids stuff and more, all with a minimal touch.  I’m loving that graphic bear print that appears on quite a lot of stuff from baby blankets to wallpaper.  There’s lots of black and white in their collection which has a very Scandinavian feel to it.  The sisters are German but run Lile Sadi from the Netherlands.  Lile Sadi doesn’t have a huge collection, but what they do have is a distinct aesthetic which is simple, stylish, minimal and very appealing to anyone who likes a bit of beauty in their everyday objects.

"H&M baby bedding collection""H&M baby quilts and blankets""H&M baby bedding collection"Who doesn’t have a little soft spot in their heart for H&M?  Even if you don’t, once you see this cuteness I don’t think you’ll be able to resist.  This baby collection of bed linen, towels, toys and more is just the sweetest.  Those elephant cushions are so adorable and so is all that starry bedlinen.  If you haven’t discovered H&M’s home collection for babies yet, check it out because I don’t think you’ll be disappointed.

Sweet hearts…

"heart baby blanket"Lately I’ve been seeing a lot of heart adorned stuff for kids.  A lot of it isn’t for me but sometimes, when it’s kept simple,  it can be super sweet like that black and white baby blanket.  So here are my current favourite {sweet} heart picks:

1.  Two hearts poster by Seventy tree,  2.   Louis Louise heart print duvet cover from smallable,  3.  Jess Brown Wovenplay doll from Miniluu,  4.  Knitted heart baby blanket by Yarning made,  5.  Oeuf NYC heart sweater,  6.  Mini hearts wall stickers by Ferm Living.

Out of Africa…

September 3, 2013

"animal themed kids bedding"This new kids bedding collection by Mini Empire is nice… very nice!  The predominantly black and white Africa inspired animal theme is playful and stylish.  I’m especially loving that little round elephant cushion. "elephant baby blanket"In addition to duvet sets and cushions, there are some lovely baby blankets too like this African animals one.  I’m already a big fan of Swedish Mini Empire and I love that they’ve taken their striking prints and turned them in to wonderful kids bedding.  The bedding collection will be available from October 2013.

Spring is in the air…

February 1, 2013

"scandinavian kids bed linen"I had my birthday in January.  Nothing unusual about this except January is the bleakest month of the year in this part of the world. So it’s really not a good month for a birthday but this year at least I managed to escape for some winter sun.  Growing up in Mumbai, January was the best month to have your birthday.  Most Indians don’t celebrate Christmas so there was no Christmas hangover to speak of, it was a new year, the weather was at it’s best and everybody was on a high.  How the tables have turned on me!  But as bleak as January is, come the 1st of February and it feels like everyone has a renewed vigour, a spring in their step, a positive outlook once again.  For me the 1st of February brings with it the hope of Spring and that’s what makes it special.  Today, it feels like the worst of winter is over and so to celebrate the coming of Spring I wanted to share my first Spring 2013 collection with you.  It’s a new brand from Sweden called Gabor & Friends and they make the most wonderful bed linen for babies, toddlers and kids.

"scandinavian bed linen kids"Stylish, sophisticated kids bed linen is hard to come by and that’s why when I saw Gabor & Friends I couldn’t wait to share.  On offer are duvet sets, blankets, crib bumpers and cushions.  The prints, like the bird one, are so pretty but the solid colours of sea green and salmon are equally appealing (my favourite I think is that Purple Rain snuggle blanket).  Most of the tones and shades used in Gabor & Friends’ Spring collection are soft, muted and understated except their cashmere-wool blankets that come in the boldest and brightest of colours.  Many of the pieces are 2 sided – a print on one side and a solid colour on the other giving you the option to change the look as you please.  I’m so loving this collection and looking at it really makes me feel like Spring is in the air.  Gabor & Friends don’t sell through their site but you’ll find their cashmere blankets at the lovely Scandinavian Minimall who will soon be stocking the rest of the collection.
