how to make clay necklace pendants

I never considered myself a DIY’er or a crafter but since I started some crafts for this blog a while ago, I can’t seem to stop.  It’s so addictive.  My latest crafting obsession is making stuff with home bake clay.  Oh the possibilities!  My first DIY clay project was making clay necklace pendants for kids. We chose moon and star shaped pendants but you could go any any shape you like.  Here’s what we did:

"pretty necklaces and bracelets for girls"Yesterday I was feeling the love for these neon sandals and today I’m continuing with the neon obsession but this time for these pretty bracelets and necklaces for girls.  Delicate, bright and unashamedly girly these jewels are by the French Louise Misha.  I love the striking colours, the sweet tassels and even the cute little cloth bags they come in.  Louise Misha is the creation of 2 friends who started their own line after being inspired by a trip to India.  I completely get this since India is a place full of colour, inspiration and beautiful things (OK maybe I’m biased but its still true :)).  Apart from girls jewellery, Louise Misha also make other accessories, some clothes and I’ve just spotted some pretty little bikini’s too.  My sponsors French Blossom have a range of their goodies so if you have a girly girl (like me) then this is one brand not to miss!

"green french accessories for girls""red french accessories for girls"Emerald green or ruby red… what would you choose?  These are the gorgeous new accessories from the Spring Summer 2013 collection by April Showers.  French and fabulous, April Showers always, always delights with each new season.  Their accessories are feminine and pretty and would delight any little girl.  Those sparkly socks would excite my daughter no end and the beaded necklaces with the tassel detail are just so chic, I want them for myself.  There’s lots more to the collection including some black and white pieces for babies and some cool shoes and knee high socks for little girls.  When I saw this collection at My Little Square, it was the rich, deep colours that first grabbed my attention but I just can’t say whether I like the ruby red or the emerald green more… I adore them both so much!  Have you chosen your favourite?

Felt sweeties…

"felt necklaces for girls"Being Indian, I visit India often as I have loads of family there including my parents.  For me, shopping and eating are always at the top of the agenda in India because I love doing both.  As far as the shopping is concerned, I never really indulge in expensive stuff but instead it’s always about picking up unusual little trinkets and treasures for the home or to wear.  The one thing I never leave India without is a load of bangles, bindi’s and necklaces for my daughter Anya.  She absolutely loves her accessories and will often load up her arms with 20-30 bangles at a time!  Last time we were there we picked up a gorgeous fabric necklace for her which has now become an absolute favourite of mine and Anya’s.  India is a great place to buy colourful and unusual jewellery for kids but since I don’t live there I’m always looking for other avenues too.  And my latest finds are these super sweet handmade necklaces, hair clips and hair ties by Homako.

"pastel hair clips girls"Based in LA, Yoko hand makes all these gorgeous accessories with a definite Japanese vibe to them which isn’t surprising as Yoko is originally from Japan.  I love the soft pastel colours which are perfectly complimented with dark stripes and little unexpected details like the pearls and baubles.  The necklaces are strung on ribbons finished with little coloured felt dots that are such a pretty addition.  Yoko makes jewellery for adults as well but a lot of the kids’ range is designed for mum and daughter to share.  You can get these sweet necklaces and hair accessories at Homako but Yoko has also created an exclusive and beautiful range for the lovely online boutique Minikin which is also very worth checking out.

Fun accessories…

"pretty accessories for girls"Accessories can really make an outfit.  I recently bought a dress for my daughter which can only be described as a very plain A-line dress in burgundy.  It’s the kind of dress that you would probably pass over on the rail, let alone buy.  But it came with a detachable pearl studded collar that really made the dress.  Since it’s removable, the collar can be used on any plain top or dress to bring it to life.  I think I actually bought the dress just so I could have the collar.  This dress just showed me again how the right accessories can completely change an outfit and even add a bit of drama or whimsy to any look.  Now I just need to remember to accessorise myself more often!  But that aside, I went looking for more accessories for little girls and these were my favourite finds.  I love them all but that dramatic feathered hairband is just so cool.  Here’s where you’ll find them:

1. Foam flower necklace… 2. Feather hairband… 3. Lace collar… 4. Dotted socks in cherry

A few accessories…

"pretty pink accesories for girls"

I think accessories on big girls and little girls look great but I don’t do nearly enough accessorising.  I quite simply forget!  I really want to change this habit and start adding that extra touch to every outfit for my daughter and me.  I love the idea of going for muted coloured clothes and then adding hints of bold and bright colour through the accessories.  I came across that neon and gold necklace today which I loved and that’s what reminded me of the need for accessories in my life!  So I first went looking for some for my daughter and these are 4 that I loved:

1.  Neon and gold necklace by Lieschen Mueller… 2.  Hand-knitted hooded scarf by Ketiketa… 3.  Ilva baby socks with stripe detail by April Showers… 4. Elephant hair ties by Melissa Abram.

"colourful necklace for girls"

I am truly besotted by this new collection of kids jewellery by Bloesem.   Featuring pretty necklaces and bracelets in bold colours, each piece has a fun element making it perfect for little girls.  Simple styles with subtle embellishments {like the apple} make this collection unique.

"leather flower pendant necklace girls"

I’m loving the bright neon cords used in many of the necklaces especially the leather flower one and the one with the adorable mickey mouse pendant.  The classic pearl makes an appearance too but it’s been given a playful and modern twist with the addition of things like a wooden mini squirrel or some tiny charms.

"pearl bracelet for girls"

The jewellery is all handmade by the talented Irene Hoofs {a mama of 2} and comes in extremely limited quantities so if you want one I guess you’ll have to be quick!  And mama’s if you’re tempted, I’m excited to tell you that there’s a ladies collection too including a couple of DIY kits.  To browse these beautiful pieces visit Bloesem wears where you can see the entire collection.

Fun with feathers

"feather fairy wings for girls"

My nearly 3 year old bambino was playing animatedly with a feather the other day.  While watching her I started thinking about a post on feathers.  There’s something about feathers that makes them special.  I don’t know what it is but they’re so soft and lovely to touch. So I went searching for some lovely things made of these tactile objects and here are my top 3 finds:

1.  How utterly gorgeous are these feather adorned fairy wings?!  Delicate and so feminine, I can’t imagine any little girl not being enamoured of them.  They’d make a perfect addition to a dressing up box although once worn, I’m not sure they’d ever be put away.  They’re by Atsuyo et Akiko and with Christmas coming up, they’d make the perfect gift too.

2.  These full feathered necklaces are a great accessory for slightly older girls.  Take a simple dress and elevate it to new levels with these lovely necklaces by Christa Davis.

3.  Last but not least is this feathered headband which isn’t just for dressing up days but also just to add a bit of drama to an everyday outfit.  It comes in a range of colours and is by the super creative American kids fashion brand Wovenplay.  If you’re Europe based, you can also get it at Little Fashion Gallery
