"bold patterns prints for kids room"Lately I’ve been feeling the need to brighten up my wardrobe not just with colour but with bold prints and patterns.  I often wear solid blocks of colour but I don’t tend to wear many prints.  Now I’ve got the urge to go out and buy striking patterns and prints in bold and bright colours and mix and match them without any rules.  Whether I’ll be brave enough to do this is a completely different matter but when I saw this styling for kids spaces it reminded me that you can make contrasting patterns and colours work together.  These gorgeous spaces are created by interior stylist Linda Ahman.  You’ve got graphic patterns against floral ones, hot pinks with orange, stripes with polka dots and it all comes together so seamlessly.  Would you try something like this in your kids room or even in your wardrobe?  Seeing these images I’m now dreaming of having patterns and prints everywhere!

"black and white kids room ideas"I remember when I was around 13, there was a girl in my school who only ever wore black.  Occasionally she would wear little hints of white or grey but the dominating colour from head to toe was always black.  I seriously thought she was the coolest kid I’d ever seen!  I’ve always loved black and even several years on this obsession with black has never waned.  When I see a piece of clothing in a shop, it can come in every colour under the sun and I will always be drawn to the black one.  Over the years I’ve taught myself to have more colour in my wardrobe especially for Spring and Summer but in Winter it’s back to black!  Now this black obsession is creeping in to my decorating ideas and I’m thinking of re-doing my daughters room in black and white.  So I’ve been looking around for kids room decorations that are not only black and white but are also simple, unfussy and uncluttered in their design.  These were my top picks:

1.  Heart poster… 2. Polka dot wall stickers… 3. Sheep mobile… 4. Striped blanket… 5. Striped cloud cushion… 6. Tica chair… 7. Mickey Mouse pillow.

Hope you all have a great weekend!  See you next week…

"gold nursery decor ideas"I think I have a bit of an obsession with the colour gold.  I love wearing gold jewellery and having gold accents in my home.  It’s a colour that’s rich and warm and works best when used sparingly.  I particularly love that there are so many different tones and shades to gold so you can chose to bling it up or tone it down.  It’s not a colour you would immediately associate with a nursery or toddler’s room but I love the idea of adding gold accessories and accents in a kids space especially when paired with lots of white.  I went looking for some gold nursery decorations and here’s what I loved:

1. Black and gold cloud mobile…  2. Mexican inspired Concha chair…  3. Mr Mustache print…  4. Straw storage baskets with gold sequins…  5. Toadstool night light from smallable.com…  6. Set of raindrop cushions…  7.  Organic stars duvet set.

Today I wanted to share a few things and spaces I found and fell for:

"kids room flooring ideas"Beautiful vintage inspired kids room and I’m going crazy for that chequered floor.

"mouse soft toy doll"How cute is this mouse ballerina?

"minimalist kids room"Loving the colours and the simplicity of this kids space.

"sheep soft toy"That sheep soft toy is just adorable and I love the black, white and grey nursery too.

Have a wonderful weekend and try to stay warm!

"pink and grey kids room ideas"I’m always dreaming of re-decorating every room in the house.  Today I’m loving pink and grey for my daughters room.  Grey isn’t the most obvious choice for a kids room but with a dash of pink I think it works so well.  Personally, I’d even go for just grey with lots of white but today I wanted to add a bit of pink to the mix.  This kind of colour scheme and decor also really appeals to my minimalist side.  When i started putting this board together I knew I would like the end result but I didn’t realise quite how much this colour scheme would appeal to me.  Hope you like it too…

1.  Harlequin wallpaper… 2.  Knitted flag garland… 3.  Circus print… 4. 3D Olephants mobile… 5.  Soft pink lacquered chair… 6. Beauty baby doll… 7.  Sonny angel doll… 8.  Floral print beanbag…  9.  Starry cloud cushion

"black and white wallpaper"If you read my post on Ferm Livings latest collection, you will know that I am obsessing over the whole black and white Scandinavian interiors look.  I so badly want to create my own version of this look in my living room but can’t for practical reasons.  My only hope is moving house but it seems a bit excessive to move just because I want to re-decorate the living room!  So while I wait I’ve been dreaming of how I would decorate, and this black and white wallpaper by Fine Little Day is one of my favourites.  In my next home I know I’ve got to have this somewhere.  The same print also comes as a baby blanket and a cushion cover both of which I love too.  I went looking around the web to see rooms where this blanket, wallpaper or cushion has been used and these were some of my favourite black and white rooms:

"black and white nursery""black and white kids room""black and white scandinavian decor"Isn’t this wallpaper so striking?  It just brings all these rooms to life.  I love the nursery at the top which is nearly all white but has that stunning feature wall.  I also love the last picture where this wallpaper has been used to frame a door.  And the 2 pictures in the middle show the blanket and cushion which are so chic.  Have a happy weekend!

Eat, play, love…

February 13, 2013

"heart cushion, heart bread, heart poster"I’m not really in to the whole Valentines day thing.  It’s a bit too commercial for me but I still appreciate the sentiment behind the day.  If you’ve been a couple for a while it’s easy to take each other for granted so for me Valentines is a day to remember and appreciate all the little things I love about my husband.  We have never exchanged gifts or celebrated in a big way but if the mood struck, we would do something impulsive and fun.  Of course impulsive has gone out the window these days as having a child involves a lot of pre-planning.  But tomorrow I am thinking of having a fun day and evening with child and husband.  I haven’t yet decided what I’ll do as I’m such a last minute person but I do know it will involve the 3 things that matter most to us… eat, play and love!  And with that in mind I gathered a few images that say just that to me:

1.  An illustration of a pair of Valentines bears… 2.  A heart decoration for the heart of your home … 3. A Valentines bread loaf to bake… 4.  A fun and playful pillow called Harriet the heart

scandinavian_kids_room_decorRecently I have come across so many blogs that showcase beautiful Scandinavian homes and each home is more striking then the next.  Often the rooms are all white from floor to ceiling, complemented with black accents and gorgeous mid-century furniture.  I am so smitten by this Scandi chic look that last night I told my husband it was time to re-decorate our living room and draw from this style but with our own personal touch.  In my excitement I even showed him all the images I had been collecting.  He agreed but then quickly burst my bubble by pointing out the elephant in the room – the carpet.  To really achieve the look I’m after we need wooden floors but living in a period flat with a 4 year old, that just isn’t an option.  The noise would drive the couple below us insane!  While I know he’s right I can’t help but mourn the living room of my dreams.  So for now I’ll have to make do by fueling my love for all things Scandinavian by sharing more Scandi decor with you and today I’ve turned to an old favourite with a wonderful new Spring Summer 2013 collection.

"Scandinavian home decor"If you haven’t already guessed, this is the new collection by Ferm Living.  Always chic, always minimal this new line is right up my street.  I love the use of lots of black and white with pops of bold colour.  That half moon wallpaper would fit like in a dream in my imaginary living room.  As I’ve come to expect with Ferm living, most of their pieces aren’t age or gender specific like those bolsters that would be fun in any space.  And that play tent, with it’s black and white stripes and hint of neon orange wouldn’t be an eyesore if your kids decided to camp out in the living room.  There’s a lot more to this new Ferm Living collection including some cool wall stickers like the ones pictured below.  Enjoy!

"star and raindrop wall stickers"

"play tent for kids"I’m loving this dreamy new store from Spain called Bel & Soph.  It’s full of soft linen cushions, cosy quilts and cute decor items for babies and kids.  Created by 2 mums who wanted something unique and special for their kids, they recently launched their store and the result is just lovely.

"wooden toy storage boxes"

"linen cloud cushions"While I’ve seen many a cloud cushion, I love these for their simplicity, their colours and the rawness of the linen fabric.  I’m also loving the little wooden storage boxes in natural wood combined with pretty coloured backs.  Their designs are simple but there are lots of gorgeous little details like the pom pom ties on the play tent and the raw edges to the cushions that make them so lovely.  Much of their collection is in soft grey’s, dusty pinks and cool ivory’s giving it all a very chic look.

"painted headboard for kids bed"Everything on offer from Bel & Soph is understated and very classy.  Any kids room decorated with their goodies will be one magical space!

I have a folder on my laptop called ‘little things’ where all the inspiring and beautiful things, humorous things, quirky things and the things that make me smile get put away.  Today I thought I would share some of my current favourites:

"toy storage shelf"Love this simple DIY shelf to store all those little toys.

"handmade soft toys"I want to adopt these quirky hand made twins!

"DIY pierrot style collar"I want to try and make this gorgeous DIY pierrrot style collar.

"neon and pastel room" Love the neon and pastel colour scheme and that beaded hanging light.
