I’m always looking for creative and interesting ways to refresh a room or to give it a new lease of life without spending much. One easy way of doing this is to paint the walls a different colour or wallpaper the room or even wallpaper just one wall in the room. Or you could simply move the furniture around the room, add a few new cushions or swap out the bedding and it will instantly look quite different.
Recently though I came across some really amazing painted floors and thought it was such a fun way to refresh a room and give it a new look. This idea could work in any room where you don’t have carpet but I think it works especially well in a kids room. Depending on your interior style, you can choose to be as bold as you dare or as subtle as you want. And the best part is that with a little effort you can keep updating the look as your child grows up and their tastes change.
Painting floors in a kids room is ideal if you already have wooden floors down because it’s cost effective and easy to do even though it requires a little bit of time. But it’s also worth remembering that your kids won’t be kids forever so once they start outgrowing the painted floor you can always consider installing new carpets to cover it up or you can simply paint over it in a neutral colour like white. It’s always worth designing a kid room with a thought for the future because they really do grow up so fast! And painted floors can easily be adapted as kids grow.
Here are some ideas for painting your floors:
As the pictures above show, painting stripes works really well. And you don’t have to stick to just one or two colours, you can go multi-coloured like that rainbow floor above. Or you can go for different shades of the same colour to keep the look more subtle but still make a statement.
If stripes are a bit too bold for your style try going for one solid colour like the pink floor pictured above, which works so well against the white walls and the (gorgeous) yellow cot which really pops against the soft pink. Alternatively try a tone-on-tone look where you match the floor to the furniture in the room like that green room above.
For a more vintage feel, those subtle diamond shapes in pale grey and white add bags of character to the room and are my favourite of them all. Black and white or red and white would also work really well for a classic look that’s still dramatic. Alternatively painting polka dots or a few little geometric shapes would look really fun too and would be quick and easy to pull off.
As you can see there are so many ways to paint a floor so pick one and try it in your kids room.
