These have got to be the cutest toy storage sacks ever! Even though they’re made of paper they’re durable and the little faces and hearts are all hand painted on. We are hoping to move house soon and if all goes to plan, I’m definitely getting a couple of these for Anya’s room and maybe even a black heart one as a laundry bag for me. Such a simple and sweet idea… too cute!

Dramatic black nurseries
October 8, 2014
Would you ever consider a black baby nursery? While I’m a big fan of black and white baby nurseries, I’ve never gone for using using black as the dominant colour. But recently I’ve been coming across a few black nurseries and I’ve found myself really liking them. There’s something very dramatic about the look. For a black nursery to work, using the right amount of black with other shades and tones is important otherwise the room can look too dark and dingy especially if it’s a small room. It’s probably not a look for everyone but for me, when done well, black can be quite stunning and even calming. Does it work for you? Here are some of my favourite black nurseries to help you decide:
The natural wood colours compliment the black beautifully and soften the whole look. Cute monochrome blankets, toys and decorations work well here because the white in them stands out so well against all the black.
Using a black wallpaper with hints of colour is a great way of adding a more subtle amount of black to a nursery. You’ll still achieve the dramatic black look but in a more toned down way. And here again the natural wood floors and cot add a lightness to the room as do the colourful decorations. (image via Oeuf)
In this room only one feature wall has been painted black while the rest of the walls and the floors are bright white. Even with just one wall, the dominating colour is black and almost stands out more because of all the white surrounding it. Some black furniture and various shades of gray complete the look of this modern black baby nursery. (image via ollie & sebs haus)
Instead of turning walls black, making the floor entirely black is another way to add a dramatic black look to a nursery. This room looks light and bright but you still can’t miss the drama of the black floors. And as all the decor in the room sticks to the monochrome colour scheme, it allows the black to dominate but doesn’t look oppressive. (image via the designer pad)
Adorable Autumn style inspiration
October 7, 2014
This week has seen the weather turn here in the UK. It’s properly starting to feel Autumnal and so it’s time to bring out those warm clothes. While I always prefer hotter weather, I am very partial to Autumn fashions for big and little alike. All those hats, scarves, boots and socks can add so much to any outfit, taking it from simple to stunning. Today I wanted to share a few inspirational Autumn looks I’m loving for kids. I’m especially loving the touch of neon to liven up an otherwise muted gray outfit as seen in the first picture. And also, a splash of mustard is another great colour to add to any Autumn outfit.

Collected for baby: Chic black style
October 2, 2014
When it comes to the cooler months, my wardrobe immediately goes back to black. There is nothing more chic than an all black look especially in Winter. This year I’ve been thinking about introducing more black in to Anya’s wardrobe too. Maybe a little surprising for a kid, but she does like black and never objects to wearing it. Perhaps she wants to be more like mommy – who knows but a girl can dream, right? : ) Anyway, thinking about this I went searching to see what was out there. I found some beautiful black clothes for kids that are so chic that I wouldn’t mind some for myself, especially those boots and the Winter hat! And how gorgeous is that herringbone dress with the ribbon detail? Here are my favourite finds:
1. herringbone dress with ribbon back | 2. pom pom ears hat | 3. colour block baby onesie | 4. pleated panel wool jumper | 5. flared skirt with silver sparkles | 6. two-tone leather boots
Cute games on the go!
October 1, 2014
Do your kids constantly ask to play board games? In our home Anya loves to play games. If I agreed to it, she would have me playing from morning to night. I normally enjoy playing with her, that is until she loses. Then it’s tears and grumpiness and everything that all five year olds do when they don’t win. But I can’t blame her too much because I still don’t like losing! Who does? Games also make fun birthday gifts especially when you don’t know the child too well so recently while searching for a gift I came across these adorable games. So cute aren’t they? With bright colours and cute illustrations most of these handmade games are small so they’re perfect at home or on the go too.
How to plait kids hair with ribbon
September 30, 2014
When Anya started school last year, she immediately loved every minute of it much to mine and Richards joy. That is everything except PE days. PE days were a nightmare simply because she hated her PE kit and still does. She is such a girly girl who only wears dresses and skirts so the idea of wearing a tracksuit is awful for her. Of course I can’t change her uniform but I also know that I can’t go through another year of tantrums and tears twice a week. So recently I came up with an idea which I hoped would work. I bought some pretty satin ribbon in her school colour and told her she could wear ribbon in her hair on PE days. She is delighted and it’s been working really well. It’s such a simple thing but the ribbon makes her feel girly and I guess also takes the focus away from the tracksuit. We’ve been trying out a few styles with this (life-saving!) ribbon and Anya’s favourite has become these ribbon plaits which my mum used to do for me as a kid. So I thought I would share how we do these:
Start by making two ponytails. I prefer lower ponytails as they fall better once made in to plaits.
Cut a piece of ribbon and slide it in to the hair tie making sure to adjust the ribbon so that both sides are of equal length. The length of the ribbon should be more than double the length of the ponytail. This is so that you have enough ribbon left over to make a bow later.
Separate the ponytail in to three sections as you would do when you plait hair. The left strand of ribbon should be held with the left section of hair and the right strand of ribbon with the right section of hair. The middle section of hair has no ribbon.
Then plait hair as normal making sure that the ribbon is plaited in too. Try and keep the both the strands of ribbon on top of the sections of hair – like in the picture above.
Using a hair tie, tie the plait making sure the ribbon is tied in too.
Do the same with the other ponytail and then tie the leftover ribbon in to bows. And you’ve got pretty ribbon plaits.
This is the easiest and fastest way I could think of doing it as time is always running out in the mornings before school so I wanted something that doesn’t take longer than making regular plaits. Anya adores her ribbon plaits and now demands it everyday, not just PE days!
Autumn Winter 2014 by Caramel
September 29, 2014
Have you seen this stunning new Autumn/Winter collection by Caramel? Caramel is an old favourite British brand that always creates clothes that are timeless and beautiful. This is probably my favourite collection yet. Caramel is always about delivering understated style without compromising on comfort and this collection does just that. That skirt (pictured bottom right) – how lovely is the cut? And that dress with the red trim? I’m loving it all. I’ve picked out the girls collection to share here but there is also some gorgeous stuff for boys and babies.
Friday chat: Making your dreams come true
September 26, 2014
Over the Summer I mentioned a new project I was working on. Well this week I’ve really learned that nothing happens as quickly or as smoothly as you want it to. What should have taken no more than three weeks has taken well over a month. Apart from timing, there have been lots of little things that aren’t going according to plan. It’s been frustrating and stressful and some days I’ve really wondered if it’s all worth it. But deep down I know it is so I’ve tried to stay positive, work through the problems and stay focused on the end goal. You may have noticed the odd missed post and late posts but hopefully soon I will be back on track.
Today is the first day that I feel like this will come together and that I’m within touching distance. There is still a lot to do but it’s starting to feel very real. I can’t wait to share it with you and if all goes to plan that will be soon, very soon. I’m both excited and nervous – that first date kind of feeling in the pit of your stomach is the best way to describe it. But I’m so glad I haven’t let all the frustrations stop me from reaching that goal and making my dream a reality.
Have a wonderful weekend and don’t give up on that dream no matter what. If you haven’t started making it a reality yet, just start. Imagine where you could be in a years time – that thought is what keeps me going! x
Playful: A book packed with fun craft projects
September 24, 2014
I’ve long been a fan of Merrilee Liddiard who writes the creative kids craft blog called MerMag. She has now published a book full of the most fun crafts to make with your kids. The thought behind the book is that we can make toys and fun things for our kids just like our grandparents did. Everything doesn’t have to be bought but instead it’s all about engaging with your kids to create playful things where the making part is just as important as the playing. Being the stylish mum that she is, Merrilee goes a step further with her book. While it’s all about kids crafts it’s beautifully presented with thought given to the clothes the kids wear, the interiors and every detail so that it’s a book you can happily display on your coffee table.
The book is called “Playful: Fun projects to make with + for kids” and has a big range of crafts including toy making, paper crafts, making dressing up stuff and lots more. Some of my favourite crafts include those cute wooden necklaces (pictured at the top) and those giant animal cutouts. That tiger pinata looks really fun for a party too. There are many crafty mums out there but the reason I especially love Merrilee’s creations is because everything is do-able by non-crafty mums like me and it’s very easy to genuinely involve kids and let them do a lot of it. Also, you never need ridiculous amounts of materials or complex tools. And besides all her crafts look so beautiful don’t you think?
