Last week I was at my favourite magazine shop* in London which stocks magazines from across the globe and also has very limited edition ones that are hard to find. Seriously, the choice they offer is staggering and this place definitely qualifies as a magazine lovers paradise. So naturally while I was there I indulged in a few magazines – some that I hadn’t read before and some old favourites like Milk. While flicking through Milk yesterday a cute puppy like object caught my eye and I had a better look. I discovered Pana Objects started by a group of friends who wanted to add a little fun and beauty to everyday things. Based in Thailand, their sweet little objects are all crafted from wood and designed with love. I adore those little Apple charger caps… what a cute idea! And those coat hooks are simple and stylish for any space while that puppy dog lamp is perfect for a kids room. Sweet!
*In case you’re interested, I don’t know the name of the magazine shop but you’ll find it at 66 Charlotte St.
A couple of months ago I was on a mission to buy my daughter a swimsuit. I kind of left it to the last minute so ordering online wasn’t an option and I also felt like a trip to the shops. I set off excitedly, dreaming of bright colours and stylish cuts and started wondering how I would choose just one swimsuit. I hit the first shop which was disappointing but I still had hope. Four shops later and I began to despair. The choice out there was really uninspiring, bland and boring. Maybe because the summer collections weren’t fully in or maybe because kids swimsuits are just designed to be dull. I had to buy something so I did but I went home feeling flat and disappointed. Then, last week I came across this new Spring Summer 2013 collection by Little Creative Factory and my faith in kids swim gear was fully restored! How gorgeous is this swimwear? I want it in my size, please.
Little Creative Factory is the creation of 2 Spanish mama’s who make swimwear, some clothes and lots of wonderful hats for kids. The 2 creative mums say they get their inspiration from observing the little things in life and from the enthusiasm, freshness and spontaneity of their little girls. I love the classic styles that ooze understated glamour and are just so darn chic! Amongst their offerings are some really adorable balloon-style drawstring tops, some cute baby bloomers and a hat collection that is just wow. All the clothes would make for perfect beachwear or just dreamy and chic summer wear. Little Creative Factory don’t yet sell online but you can contact them through their website to find out more. Next time I’m swimwear shopping for Anya, I know who’s door I’ll be knocking on.
Happy Friday guys and hope the sun shines for you this weekend!
Circus themed kids things have been around for ages and aren’t going anywhere in a hurry. While some of them can be cute, it’s the circus inspired harlequin pattern that I love best of all. It’s such a simple geometric pattern that has loads of style without any of the fuss. I love that you can play with many different colours on any harlequin adorned object or you can go for a more minimalistic 2 colour look. I was reminded of how much I love this pattern when I spotted that circus bunny on pinterest so I went looking for a few more things and here’s what I found:
For the past few days we’ve had some house guests from Melbourne. They’re old friends of ours who have a 3.5 year old son. My daughter, being an only child, has been in play heaven. She’s absolutely loving having a ready made playmate and for me it’s been fun observing this playful duo who didn’t really know each other but have ended up becoming the best of friends. While they sometimes make up their own cute little games, they have also been playing creatively and imaginatively with my daughters toys. Toys that she hasn’t looked at in the past 6 months and I was beginning to wonder why I bought them in the first place. But I’m very happy that in the last week the toys have got a much needed workout.
As a result of all this play going on in our home, I’ve got toys on the mind. This morning while surfing facebook I came across Susha Toys from Russia and I loved them. Creative, imaginative and attractive, these wooden toys look like bags of fun too. They’re made and designed by a couple who wanted something special for their first born so they decided to make their own toys. The range includes toys that encourage a child to think, to create and of course to have fun. They offer toys for babies and well as toddlers and slightly older kids too. I love many of the toys but my favourite is that simple set of wooden animals with their detachable ears and noses. So cute and so gorgeous!
A few days ago I came across some kids bedding by Oh My Kids from Belgium and I was smitten. Their simple aesthetic of lots of white with tiny bits of colour really appealed to me. Also, I just adore the random scattering of little shapes which extends across most of their designs. I need to start looking for new bedlinen for Anya soon, and this is definitely going on my shortlist.
I soon discovered that Oh My Kids also create handmade clothes for kids which include dresses, skirts, sweatshirts and leggings. I’m not normally a sweatshirts and leggings kind of gal but these ones are an exception. They’re so simple, stylish and fun. And that little balloon skirt… too cute!
And before I go, have you entered our fab giveaway?
Lately I’ve been obsessing over black and white interiors but every once in a while I see bold and bright kids rooms popping with colour and I change my mind. Today is one of those times… when I saw these rooms I fell in love with colour all over again. We all know that kids adore colour. Have you ever seen a child colour in a picture in one or two or even just three colours? Neither have I! These rooms work especially well for me because they’ve all used white or very light backgrounds and then added the brightest accents in a range of colours.
Today I have a fantastic giveaway for you so read on…
I have a very dear friend who is quite a bit older than me and she has 2 kids in their late teens. I go over to her place often with my 4 year old who isn’t usually a fan of accompanying me to places where there are no young kids but this friend’s home is an exception. Simply because my daughter always gets delightful wooden toys to play with and sometimes even gets to take a couple home. My friend has saved many of her kids wooden toys from 15+ years ago because she loves them for the memories they hold and intends to one day pass them on to her grand kids. That’s the thing with wooden toys, they never go out of fashion and can be played with from one generation to the next.
I too am a huge wooden toy fan and have kept all the ones that Anya has collected over the last 4 years. I’ve perched them on some shelves in her room and for now they serve as colourful and fun decorations that bring splashes of colour to her room. So I’m delighted to introduce you to the Wooden Toy Shop which as the name suggests, does nothing but wooden toys. And I’ve teamed up with them to bring you a fantastic giveaway. One lucky reader will win a £75 voucher to spend on whatever they like at the Wooden Toy Shop. The choice is entirely yours.
The Wooden Toy Shop sell some of my favourite brands like Brio, Plan Toys and Janod. They have toys, games and puzzles for babies, toddlers and older kids. There’s a lot of choice so it doesn’t matter if you have a 1 year old or 7 year old, there’s something for every kid. If the choice was mine, I think I’d go for one of their play kitchens or maybe even the BBQ set since summer is coming up but more importantly, what will you choose?
