Just start…

August 15, 2014

"start making those dreams come true"Do you have a project that you’ve been putting off?  Have you been waiting for the right time?  I’ve had a project in mind for months and I kept finding reasons not to do it.  The reasons ranged from time constraints to fear of failure (if I’m completely honest) and everything in between.  I’ve realised if you put your mind to it, you can find one million excuses not to do something.  And that’s exactly why I was stuck.

Then I came across this quote and it really resonated with me.  I realised that I had been creating obstacles for myself and there really was no reason not to start.  Yes, it may not work but I won’t know that till I’ve tried.  And after all isn’t it better to have tried and failed than to regret never trying?  Yes, time is an issue but I also believe you can make time for something you truly want.  With hard work and dedication to my project, I pictured where I could be in one years time and that spurred me on greatly.  And finally one of the best ways to make yourself do something – tell people about it!  Simple.  So I have started telling friends and I’ve now told all of you!  I can’t wait to share more with you soon.  Watch this space!

Have you been putting off a dream?  What will motivate you to start?  I’d love to hear what’s stopping you from going after it because chances are whatever it is, can be overcome.

Have a wonderful weekend full of making your dreams come true x

"black and white room ideas for toddlers"

I think if I ever move to another career it would have to be something to do with decorating babies and kids rooms.  I love putting together inspiration and ideas for how to create a beautiful nursery space or a kiddy space.  My favourite style is Scandinavian and right now I’m really partial to black and white rooms especially with a subtle hint of another colour.  For this mood board I’ve added a dash of pink to brighten up the black and white.  Here’s where you’ll find the picks:

1. stars garland | 2. miffy lamp | 3. heart postcard | 4. cloud postcards and panda poster | 5. birch toddler and child bed | 6.  owl cushion | 8.  striped toy storage baskets | 9.  bunny and girl doll | 10.  beauty baby and jealous baby dolls | 11. trees duvet set

"celebrating Summer"

Hello July!  July is my favourite month of the year.  The sun is shining, the flowers are in bloom, the days are long and bright and you can wear open toed shoes!  What’s not to love?  This weekend we’re planning to spend a lot of time outdoors with some strawberry picking tomorrow, outdoor pub lunch on Sunday with friends and family and lots of park time in between.  What are your plans for the weekend?

Here are a few Summery links I’ve liked from around the web this past week:

How summery and fresh do these cupcakes look?

Get your body beach ready with this 3 day bikini re-set plan

Learn how to make a flowery pinata

Get inspired by this gorgeous outdoor dinner party

These 4th of July popsicle cakes look good enough to eat everyday (even if you’re not American)

Matching mama and baby outfits can be cool

Who needs expensive toys and gadgets to have fun in the great outdoors?

Have a happy weekend and wishing all my American readers a wonderful July 4th.

"have a colourful weekend"

This week we have had loads of sunshine in London.  This makes us happy, very happy.  I love all the change of seasons but this is by far the best one for me.  You start to see a lot more colour appear on the streets because people start swapping their Winter greys for Spring colours, the parks are full of kids playing again and all the bright and beautiful flowers are starting to bloom.  It’s been a colourful week here and I’ve got colour on the mind so I wanted to wish you all a colourful weekend! Enjoy x

"how quickly kids grow up ebabee"

I’ve been keeping a little photo log of Anya ever since she was born.  My idea is to photograph her in the same chair, wearing white, sitting next to her favourite stuffed toy over a period of many years.  I started when she was 5 months old and took the latest picture last week.

When I look back at the original picture and compare it to the latest one, I can’t believe the huge change in 5 short years.  I’ve often been told ‘kids grow very quickly so make sure you enjoy them at every stage’.  I never really understood or appreciated this sentiment till Anya came along but now I totally get it.  Time is moving fast and life is busy for most of us so it’s really easy to forget to enjoy every little moment of bonding and love that we share with our kids every single day.  I love looking back at these photos once in a while because they are a constant reminder that every age, every stage is fleeting so it’s important to enjoy the moment you’re in because it won’t last long.

I’m so glad I’ve kept this photo record and I plan to continue till she’s 18!  Have you done anything similar with your kids? I’d love to hear.

Have a fun weekend and enjoy those amazing everyday moments with your kids. x

Little gestures

"valentines heart cup cakes""cute little cupcakes"

Valentines day for me isn’t about the big gifts or fancy outings, it’s about little gestures and making that bit of extra effort for your loved ones.   Today I surprised Anya with some little cakes when she came home from school and she was delighted.  Cook something special, make something or even call that friend you’ve been meaning to call for months – any small gesture to show how much you appreciate your close family and friends.  After all it’s the little gestures that really make us feel loved.

Happy Valentines day and have a love-filled weekend! x

I learned the hard way

February 7, 2014

"coffee table accidents toddlers"

Did you child proof your home?  I didn’t and I learned my lesson the hard way.  I foolishly believed that all would be fine and I didn’t need to be a paranoid parent.  I think I just never thought it through.  I’ve pretty much kept this to myself because I’ve been ashamed to admit how stupid I had been but when Safety 1st (a company that focuses on making the world a safer place for babies and kids) got in touch and asked me to share my story in order to spread the word about how important child safety is, I couldn’t say no.

It was a sunny Sunday afternoon a couple of years ago when Anya was nearly 3 years old.  I went out while my husband Richard stayed home with Anya.  As I walked back home my phone rang.  It was Richard and I was sure he was calling to ask me to pick up something on my way home.  When I answered I immediately knew something was wrong, very wrong.  He said something along the lines of  ‘Anya’s cut her head, she’s bleeding heavily, we need to get to the hospital.”  I ran home and found my baby covered in blood and sobbing uncontrollably.  She had slit her forehead open on the corner of the coffee table and the wound looked awful.

Of course we rushed to the emergency room and after an initial check we were asked to wait.  In the meantime Anya had perked up quite a bit and was jumping around the waiting room much to the horror of the other parents who were staring at this little child covered in blood but playing as if all was well with the world.  But this reassured Richard and me.  We could see that while the cut was bad, she was fine.  Big, huge sigh of relief.  A while later 3 nurses glued her forehead back together (apparently they don’t uses stitches on kids anymore) while blowing bubbles to keep Anya distracted.  The doctor checked her over and said even though the wound looked really bad, it was superficial and all was well.  Thank you NHS.

"child proofing your home"

Lesson learned and how.  According to the New York Times, turns out that coffee tables are one of the biggest hazards for kids inside the home.  Those foam corner guards may not be pretty but if you have a wooden coffee table, you need them.  If you have a glass coffee table, get rid.  And if like me, you’re naive enough to believe that you don’t need at least some amount of child proofing within the home, think again.  I wish I had.  Anya still has a scar and each time I look at it I feel terrible for allowing something so awful to happen to her especially when it could easily have been avoided.

This post is brought to you in partnership with Safety 1st.  All content, words and images are my own.  Thank you for supporting my work with carefully selected partners that allow me to bring you new content like this.

Feeling like a kid

January 31, 2014

"London-sothbank-merry-go-round"

A few weeks ago we were at London’s Southbank where they have a big, old-fashioned merry-go-round.   The second Anya spotted it she of course wanted a ride but wasn’t keen to go alone.  So my husband volunteered to go with her and then I said I’d go too.  All three of us ended up on the carousel which was so much fun.  It made me feel like a kid again and I so enjoyed the feeling.  That’s one of the many joys of having a child;  sometimes, you get to be a kid again and it feels great.  My only regret is that we didn’t manage to get anyone to take a photo of all three of us.  Next time.

Have a happy weekend!

That Friday feeling…

January 24, 2014

"That Friday feeling"

Happy Friday!  I’ve definitely got that Friday feeling today.  It’s been a long week and I’m so looking forward to the weekend and some fun family outings, weather permitting of course (I do live in London after all).   Hope you all have a wonderful weekend full of smiles, laughter and lots of silly fun!  I couldn’t resist sharing this delightful picture by Franky Grow, a very quirky, creative and fun kids clothing line from Japan.  And besides, that kid on the right – that’s exactly how I’m feeling.

Simple pleasures…

"lifes simple pleasures"

I’m feeling so inspired by this photo stream that I found on flickr.  The photographs are beautiful and that little girl is always wearing such chic clothes.  But what really stands out for me is the simplicity of it all.  It’s really encouraging me to appreciate the simple pleasures of life, which I don’t do nearly as much as I should.  The photo’s focus around everyday life like eating, picking Autumn leaves, playing, exploring with your kids and just enjoying family life indoors and outdoors.  It’s all about those little pleasures that we experience everyday but don’t always take a moment to enjoy.

These photo’s are by a Japanese mama called Shima who clearly has an eye for pure beauty.  There are loads more photos so if you want a bit of inspiration, do take a look at her photo stream.  You won’t be disappointed.

Have a happy weekend!
