Lately I’ve been obsessing over black and white interiors but every once in a while I see bold and bright kids rooms popping with colour and I change my mind. Today is one of those times… when I saw these rooms I fell in love with colour all over again. We all know that kids adore colour. Have you ever seen a child colour in a picture in one or two or even just three colours? Neither have I! These rooms work especially well for me because they’ve all used white or very light backgrounds and then added the brightest accents in a range of colours.
Today I have a fantastic giveaway for you so read on…
I have a very dear friend who is quite a bit older than me and she has 2 kids in their late teens. I go over to her place often with my 4 year old who isn’t usually a fan of accompanying me to places where there are no young kids but this friend’s home is an exception. Simply because my daughter always gets delightful wooden toys to play with and sometimes even gets to take a couple home. My friend has saved many of her kids wooden toys from 15+ years ago because she loves them for the memories they hold and intends to one day pass them on to her grand kids. That’s the thing with wooden toys, they never go out of fashion and can be played with from one generation to the next.
I too am a huge wooden toy fan and have kept all the ones that Anya has collected over the last 4 years. I’ve perched them on some shelves in her room and for now they serve as colourful and fun decorations that bring splashes of colour to her room. So I’m delighted to introduce you to the Wooden Toy Shop which as the name suggests, does nothing but wooden toys. And I’ve teamed up with them to bring you a fantastic giveaway. One lucky reader will win a £75 voucher to spend on whatever they like at the Wooden Toy Shop. The choice is entirely yours.
The Wooden Toy Shop sell some of my favourite brands like Brio, Plan Toys and Janod. They have toys, games and puzzles for babies, toddlers and older kids. There’s a lot of choice so it doesn’t matter if you have a 1 year old or 7 year old, there’s something for every kid. If the choice was mine, I think I’d go for one of their play kitchens or maybe even the BBQ set since summer is coming up but more importantly, what will you choose?

I’ve never been a fan of baby journals because all the ones I’ve come across tend to be far too cutesy for my taste. But I do like the idea of recording memories especially from a baby’s first year. When Anya was born I couldn’t find a journal I liked, so I decided to create a large photo book where I recorded each month of her first year in photos and at the back I wrote about all the things I never wanted to forget. My photo book was by Apple and it was beautifully printed with all my photo’s and written memories. As much as I love my photo journal, I wish I had known about this baby journal by Pleased to Meet which I discovered a few days ago. It’s so sweet but not cutesy with it’s simple illustrations and bold, bright colours.
Pleased to Meet are the creation of a German couple who make other delightful journals like the Book of Friends which is lovely for slightly older babies and a wedding journal called ‘We did it’. They also have some really fun and chic limited edition prints with my favourite being the cat one even though I’m no cat lover! Then you’ve got other stationery including cards, pretty boxes and more. I found this lovely brand at Mokkasin which is a Swedish store I love and they have a selection of these goodies to buy.
Even though I’ve been married 10 years I’m still so very tempted by this beautiful wedding journal. Sigh!
I recently came across these ‘Happy Toys’ and I wanted to share. The toys are made by a Dutch design duo called Usuals and are carved from spare wood found on their family farm. I’m a big fan of wooden toys and these are probably some of the most natural ones I’ve ever seen. I love the little details they’ve put on each one without using anything but natural wood. Very creative and very cool!
You may remember these kids dress up fox masks I shared with you a while ago. The creator of those masks is Lucille Michieli and she has now created some wonderful new accessories for girls. I’m loving those (faux) wolf fur necklaces and the rabbit ear hairbands. What I love about Lucille is that all of her creations are so unique and just so cool! Her range is always small and consists of no more than a handful of things but it’s the creativity that goes in to each accessory that wows me every time. You can still get the fox masks and some are even on sale but today it’s the wolf fur necklace in pink that I’m hankering after.
I love yellow! It’s such a happy colour, don’t you think? It’s probably my favourite colour especially for kids and babies. And since the sun has graced us with it’s presence after months, I thought it was time to do a yellow post. Here’s what I currently love for a happy, sunny summer:
I’m loving these bold and beautiful prints by Mina Perhonen. This brand is the creation of a Japanese designer who has a love for Finnish culture. The name ‘Mina Perhonen’ is Finnish for ‘I butterfly’ reflecting the designers desire to create clothes as beautiful as butterflies. All the prints are first sketched and then created in to original fabrics which are used to make their unique creations. While the dress styles are simple, it’s the fabrics designs that are the real show stoppers for me.
I’m totally loving the bird print especially the brown birds on the blue/grey background. Even the translucent apple print is very cool and perfect for Spring. Mina Perhonen also makes some funky women’s clothes and some cute baby stuff too. I haven’t seen much of it available in the UK or Europe but you can get a few kids pieces at Couverture.
Last Friday, we received a wonderful surprise in the post, all the way from Buenos Aires. The super talented Adriana Torres sent us this delightful crochet lion rattle in a bed. I have long been a fan of Adriana’s handmade creations which include adorable crochet toys, blankets and home wares. This little lion with his beautiful blanket and bed is super cute and has already charmed my daughter (and me!). Adriana’s brand is Miga de Pan where you can see more of her work or if you’d like to buy any of her creations, you’ll find a selection at Couverture. If you haven’t come across Miga de Pan before then I seriously urge you to take a look… you won’t be disappointed. And of course, a huge thanks to Adriana for this very special delivery.
