"how to make ribbon plaits"

When Anya started school last year, she immediately loved every minute of it much to mine and Richards joy.  That is everything except PE days.  PE days were a nightmare simply because she hated her PE kit and still does.  She is such a girly girl who only wears dresses and skirts so the idea of wearing a tracksuit is awful for her.  Of course I can’t change her uniform but I also know that I can’t go through another year of tantrums and tears twice a week.  So recently I came up with an idea which I hoped would work.  I bought some pretty satin ribbon in her school colour and told her she could wear ribbon in her hair on PE days.  She is delighted and it’s been working really well.  It’s such a simple thing but the ribbon makes her feel girly and I guess also takes the focus away from the tracksuit.  We’ve been trying out a few styles with this (life-saving!) ribbon and Anya’s favourite has become these ribbon plaits which my mum used to do for me as a kid.  So I thought I would share how we do these:

"how to make ribbon braids easy"

Start by making two ponytails.  I prefer lower ponytails as they fall better once made in to plaits.

"how to easily plait ribbon in to hair"

Cut a piece of ribbon and slide it in to the hair tie making sure to adjust the ribbon so that both sides are of equal length.   The length of the ribbon should be more than double the length of the ponytail.  This is so that you have enough ribbon left over to make a bow later.

Separate the ponytail in to three sections as you would do when you plait hair.  The left strand of ribbon should be held with the left section of hair and the right strand of ribbon with the right section of hair.  The middle section of hair has no ribbon.

Then plait hair as normal making sure that the ribbon is plaited in too.  Try and keep the both the strands of ribbon on top of the sections of hair – like in the picture above.

Using a hair tie, tie the plait making sure the ribbon is tied in too.

Do the same with the other ponytail and then tie the leftover ribbon in to bows. And you’ve got pretty ribbon plaits.

This is the easiest and fastest way I could think of doing it as time is always running out in the mornings before school so I wanted something that doesn’t take longer than making regular plaits.  Anya adores her ribbon plaits and now demands it everyday, not just PE days!

"Autumn Winter 2014 by Caramel"

Have you seen this stunning new Autumn/Winter collection by Caramel?  Caramel is an old favourite British brand that always creates clothes that are timeless and beautiful.  This is probably my favourite collection yet.  Caramel is always about delivering understated style without compromising on comfort and this collection does just that.  That skirt (pictured bottom right) – how lovely is the cut?  And that dress with the red trim?  I’m loving it all.  I’ve picked out the girls collection to share here but there is also some gorgeous stuff for boys and babies.

"making your dreams come true"

Over the Summer I mentioned a new project I was working on.  Well this week I’ve really learned that nothing happens as quickly or as smoothly as you want it to.  What should have taken no more than three weeks has taken well over a month.  Apart from timing, there have been lots of little things that aren’t going according to plan.  It’s been frustrating and stressful and some days I’ve really wondered if it’s all worth it.  But deep down I know it is so I’ve tried to stay positive, work through the problems and stay focused on the end goal.  You may have noticed the odd missed post and late posts but hopefully soon I will be back on track.

Today is the first day that I feel like this will come together and that I’m within touching distance.  There is still a lot to do but it’s starting to feel very real.  I can’t wait to share it with you and if all goes to plan that will be soon, very soon.  I’m both excited and nervous – that first date kind of feeling in the pit of your stomach is the best way to describe it.  But I’m so glad I haven’t let all the frustrations stop me from reaching that goal and making my dream a reality.

Have a wonderful weekend and don’t give up on that dream no matter what.  If you haven’t started making it a reality yet, just start.  Imagine where you could be in a years time – that thought is what keeps me going!  x

"DIY wooden necklace ideas"

I’ve long been a fan of Merrilee Liddiard who writes the creative kids craft blog called MerMag.  She has now published a book full of the most fun crafts to make with your kids.  The thought behind the book is that we can make toys and fun things for our kids just like our grandparents did.  Everything doesn’t have to be bought but instead it’s all about engaging with your kids to create playful things where the making part is just as important as the playing.  Being the stylish mum that she is, Merrilee goes a step further with her book.  While it’s all about kids crafts it’s beautifully presented with thought given to the clothes the kids wear, the interiors and every detail so that it’s a book you can happily display on your coffee table.

"paper plate crafts for kids""best craft book for kids 2014""DIY kids party pinata"

The book is called “Playful: Fun projects to make with + for kids” and has a big range of crafts including toy making, paper crafts, making dressing up stuff and lots more.  Some of my favourite crafts include those cute wooden necklaces (pictured at the top) and those giant animal cutouts.  That tiger pinata looks really fun for a party too.  There are many crafty mums out there but the reason I especially love Merrilee’s creations is because everything is do-able by non-crafty mums like me and it’s very easy to genuinely involve kids and let them do a lot of it.  Also, you never need ridiculous amounts of materials or complex tools.  And besides all her crafts look so beautiful don’t you think?

"knitted baby all in one romper"

I’ve never really been crazy about the adult onesie trend (thankfully it’s dying out now!) but when it comes to baby clothes, there is nothing cuter than a onesie.  These hand knitted dungaree style all in ones are possibly the cutest I’ve ever seen.  From the beautiful colours to the simple style, I’m loving everything about these stunning baby onesies.  What’s your favourite colour?

"organic cotton unisex baby bodysuits"

Once in a while a new baby clothing brand comes along that grabs my attention.  Piupia did just that.  All babies need essentials like bodysuits, leggings and blankets but just because they’re essentials it doesn’t mean they have to be boring.  With this collection you have fun and playful clothes that are nearly all unisex.  That means no baby pinks and baby blues but instead more unusual colours like ginger, mint, light grey and dark blue that are all ideal for baby boy or girl.  This cute collection is mostly themed around animals in the deep dark woods with fur inspired prints and animal faces adorning many of the 100% organic baby clothes.

"piupia baby clothes giveaway"

When I saw the collection, I loved the cute and playful feel of the clothes so I partnered with Piupia to giveaway my favourite pieces to one lucky reader.  I like all the clothes but my favourites are the adorable spotty jumper (love this), the animal face bodysuits and the fur print leggings so one lucky reader gets to win all three pieces in the colour and size of their choice.  The sizes go from 0 to 2 years so the clothes are ideal Winter wardrobe additions for your baby or even as a gift for an expectant mum.

Even if you don’t win, I recommend checking out Piupia’s organic baby clothes as they are really sweet and  designed with love by a mama who has a passion for clothes and fabrics.  In addition to the range shown here, there are also soft baby blankets, onesies, booties and more.   Besides, wouldn’t they make lovely gifts especially with Christmas coming up?

The giveaway:  The winner picked at random will win 1 bodysuit, 1 jumper and 1 pair of leggings valued at £90.50.  The winner can choose the size and the colour from the range available at Piupia.

To enter:  Simply like ebabee and Piupia on Facebook and then leave a comment below to say you have done so.  If you already like the pages, then just leave a comment.  All 3 things are needed.

One entry per person and this competition is open to all my readers worldwide.  The competition closes at midnight (UK time) on Sunday 28th September 2014.  Any entries after this time will not be counted.  The winner will be announced on this post and on my ebabee facebook page on Tuesday 30th September.  Good luck!

This giveaway is now closed.  Congrats to Petra who is the winner!

"DIY cardboard dolls house"

Today I wanted to share some fun things from around the web that I’m loving starting with these DIY cardboard dolls houses.  How great are they?

Have a wonderful and fun-filled weekend and I hope that story about the kid who embarrassed his mum makes you laugh out loud like it did me. x

"the best maternity jumpsuits"When I was pregnant, I didn’t come across a single maternity jumpsuit.  I so wish I had.  Jumpsuits are the perfect thing to wear when you’re pregnant because they’re comfy, flattering and stylish.  They’re great for everyday casual and office wear but also for dressing up too.   Some of the more formal ones would be such a great choice for an occasion especially in the later months of pregnancy when comfort matters most.  But even the more casual ones can easily be dressed up with heels and accessories for an evening look.  Versatile and easy to wear, for me the maternity jumpsuit is a pregnancy must have.  I think if I had found a jumpsuit at the time, I would have worn it throughout my pregnancy and beyond!

I went looking for some of the cutest maternity jumpsuits and selected 7 of the best ones that I could find.  I chose a mix of casual and formal so there’s a jumpsuit for every occasion:

1.  black maternity jumpsuit with elastic waist | 2. nile blue wrap-top maternity jumpsuit | 3. grey cashmere onesie style jumpsuit | 4.  grey lounging maternity legging jumpsuit | 5.  high-waisted black pregnancy jumpsuit | 6.  black wrap jumpsuit with leather belt | 7.  low-waisted black jumpsuit with sheer chest and sleeves

"childrens themed wallpaper""childrens themed wallpaper jungle""childrens themed wallpaper town"

If you read this blog regularly, you’ll know I’m a huge fan of wallpaper.  So when I came across this new adorable range designed by Swedish artist Ingela Arrenhius, it was love.  I’m already a big fan of Ingela’s colourful and cute illustrations which are available as kids posters but now you can have a whole wall full of her sweet art.

True to Ingela’s style, these wallpapers are playful with a fun retro vibe.  All the wallpapers (and there are many designs) come in 2 colourways with each one designed to tell a story – from life in a town to life in a jungle and even life in space!  My favourite is the picture frames wallpaper which I’m loving for a vintage inspired kids room.  The beautiful styling is by Mokkasin and the wallpapers are available from Photowall.

"six of the best teddy bear soft toys"

Teddy bears have been around forever.  They are the most iconic soft toy and I don’t think they’ll ever disappear.  Over the years I love how this one animal has taken on so many different looks.  While they’re all still bears, each one has a character and style of it’s own.  From cute to quirky I’ve rounded up six of the best teddy bears around at the moment, many of which are handmade:

1.  dotted teddy bear* | 2.  bow-tie teddy bear | 3.  striped teddy bear | 4.  mini brown teddy bear | 5.  red-faced teddy bear | 6.  dress wearing teddy bear
