Easy chicken curry recipe

"authentic Indian chicken curry recipe"

Chicken curry is to most (non-veg) Indian households what shepherds pie probably is to British households – a tasty meal that appears on the menu nearly every week and one that the whole family can enjoy.  Each household has their very own version of this delicious curry and today I wanted to share mine.  It’s easy, doesn’t need too many ingredients but still has lots of flavour and most importantly everybody eats it including my fussy 5 year old!

Little gestures

"valentines heart cup cakes""cute little cupcakes"

Valentines day for me isn’t about the big gifts or fancy outings, it’s about little gestures and making that bit of extra effort for your loved ones.   Today I surprised Anya with some little cakes when she came home from school and she was delighted.  Cook something special, make something or even call that friend you’ve been meaning to call for months – any small gesture to show how much you appreciate your close family and friends.  After all it’s the little gestures that really make us feel loved.

Happy Valentines day and have a love-filled weekend! x

Sesame soba noodles…

"sesame soba noodles recipe"

I am a complete foodie.  I love eating and I also enjoy cooking.  But as much as I enjoy cooking, any recipe I attempt has to be fairly simple and not have too many ingredients but it still has to have bags of flavour.   And of late, the recipes have to be family friendly.  I spent over 2 years cooking 2 separate meals a day as Anya is a very fussy kid.  But in recent months I’ve tried to find healthy recipes that all of us can enjoy and I’ve managed to find a fair few so I thought I would start sharing them here.  First I want to share these Japanese inspired sesame soba noodles which are a firm favourite in our home because they are delicious, versatile and very quick and easy to make.  The ingredients are mostly store cupboard things so this is my go to dish when I’ve got nothing planned for dinner or if I’m short of time as you can literally make it in under 10 minutes.

"5th birthday party dress"Last weekend we celebrated Anya’s 5th birthday with a small party at home.  It was a very girly do with lots of paper pompoms, pink tissue and 5 giggling girls.  Last year we had a big party where I hired a venue and invited loads more kids but this year we wanted a more intimate do at home.  "lady bug cupcakes"Anya loves lady bugs so that’s what we chose for the cake: lady bug cupcakes in pale pastels.  I wanted to keep it simple with a home-made feel so we chose cupcakes instead of a big cake.  I wish I could take credit for making them but they were made by my talented friend and cake maker Mirna.  For the food we chose Anya’s favourites and very kid friendly things like pizza, chicken goujons and crisps all home made.  I thought the food would look pretty served in little cardboard boxes lined with pink and white striped tissue. "girls 5th birthday party ideas"Having the party at home meant space was limited and there was no room for an extra table for the girls to eat on.  So I lay a white sheet down on the floor at one end of the living room and scattered the sheet with little gold stars and some honeycomb balls and this is where the girls ate.  The kids loved the honeycomb balls and started playing catch with them!"5th birthday party ideas"With a December birthday you have to have the party indoors as it’s way too cold.  So that usually means a venue but I so loved having the party at home and keeping it really small and simple.  I think Anya enjoyed it more too.  All in all the sun shone, the food went down well, the decorations were destroyed and the girls giggled and screamed while my husband and I watched and celebrated our baby turning 5!

"heart cushion, heart bread, heart poster"I’m not really in to the whole Valentines day thing.  It’s a bit too commercial for me but I still appreciate the sentiment behind the day.  If you’ve been a couple for a while it’s easy to take each other for granted so for me Valentines is a day to remember and appreciate all the little things I love about my husband.  We have never exchanged gifts or celebrated in a big way but if the mood struck, we would do something impulsive and fun.  Of course impulsive has gone out the window these days as having a child involves a lot of pre-planning.  But tomorrow I am thinking of having a fun day and evening with child and husband.  I haven’t yet decided what I’ll do as I’m such a last minute person but I do know it will involve the 3 things that matter most to us… eat, play and love!  And with that in mind I gathered a few images that say just that to me:

1.  An illustration of a pair of Valentines bears… 2.  A heart decoration for the heart of your home … 3. A Valentines bread loaf to bake… 4.  A fun and playful pillow called Harriet the heart

Thinking pink…

"pink toys and pink party food"

My daughter turns 4 in a couple of months and I asked her what kind of party she would like.  Her answer, without a seconds hesitation was ‘I want a pink party’!  So, a pink {and white} party it will be.  I’ve been searching the web for ideas to create a tasteful pink party and I have found many like these cute bunny cookies.  The plan is to have lots of white in there too, to balance out the pink.  I’ve started putting together a pink party inspiration board on pinterest and if you’re on there you’ll know just how fun and perfect pinterest is for something like this.  So that was the inspiration behind today’s post.  I’m seeing pink everywhere and thought I would share a few things I’ve liked in the last few days; some are party related but others are just lovely pink things.   I hope you like them too and have a wonderful weekend wherever you are.

1.  Adorable bunny cookies with fluffy little tails… 2.  A cute owl poster for a kids room… 3.  A cool pink wooden tank toy that even I feel like playing with… 4.  Neon and wood mini elf decorations for Christmas or any party.

Sunny yellow things…

"yellow booties, yellow knit doll"

A few weeks ago I wrote about some pretty pink things because my daughter informed me that pink was the best colour in the world.  She then told me purple was a close second and so I felt inspired to share some lovely lilac things with you.  Now she has informed me that yellow is the third best colour so today I have my sunny yellow finds for you.  I hadn’t planned for this to become a little series but you’ve told me you enjoy it and I love putting it together so why not:

1.  Love the bold yellow and white combo of this stylish origami light shade.

2.  How cute are these handmade little newborn booties for boy or girl.

3.  A sweet little knitted doll perfect as a clutch toy or pram companion for a baby.

4.  Peach and mango popsicles with a burst of bright pink raspberry… delicious and healthy!

"lilac dress for girls"

A short while ago I wrote about some pretty pink things as my daughter is obsessed with the colour pink.  Many of you really enjoyed the post (thanks for letting me know) so I went to my daughter to inquire about her second favourite colour.  According to her the second best colour in the whole wide world is purple or lilac as I prefer to call it.  So here are some lilac goodies for you:

1.  Love this chic Italian polka dotted dress with the stylish tie detail.

2.  A cute and hug-able star shaped cushion to decorate a baby’s cot or a kid’s bed.

3.  A cool feather headband for dress up play or to add a bit of drama to any outfit.

4.  Delicious looking lollipops with violets and pansies… how pretty are these?!

"pink tutu,cloud cushion"

Pink seems to be the colour of the moment in this house.  My daughter is beyond obsessed with the colour and yesterday even asked if she could have ‘pink teeth’!  While I’m not a blue for boy/pink for girl type of mama, I have no objection to pink in moderation… just like any other colour.  When there are so many wonderful colours to choose from why restrict yourself to just one or two.  But since we’re thinking pink these days, I went in search of some pretty pink things and here’s what I found:

1.  Love this origami pendant light which comes with a choice of pretty pastel coloured cables so you can mix and match …  2.  This is one of the most gorgeous tutu’s I’ve seen in a while… the vibrant, almost neon pink colour is so striking.  3.  Just looking at these beautiful pink raspberry cookies makes me want to head to the kitchen and get baking… so delicious!  4.  Last is this super cute polka dotted cloud cushion which would make a very sweet cot companion.
