Born in Marrakech in 2003, Zid Zid Kids is a brand of kids homewares, toys and accessories that really stand out from the crowd. With strong Moroccan design influences their collections are rich and playful. The other day while browsing Milk Magazine I stumbled across their home… their riad in Marrakech and it was love. I’m especially crazy for their kiddy spaces which are oozing bohemian charm. There’s nothing staged about these spaces; I can only really describe it as effortless style, the only kind of style to have. There are many of their own products scattered around the home which only adds to the incredible charm of the place. I love the colours chosen for each room, I love the ceiling lights and I love their almost random and ecclectic choice of wall hangings. In fact, I love it all.

Hip wallpaper from Holland
May 10, 2012
I’m a complete wallpaper addict. Nearly every room in my home has wallpaper and I’m always looking for more for those rooms that don’t have any. So when I saw this hip wallpaper by Dutch Onszelf, I couldn’t wait to feature it. If you’re looking for a cool nursery or kiddy room then you can’t go wrong with this stuff. In addition to the wallpaper, Onszelf also make large wall stickers that are so unlike any other wall stickers I’ve seen. I’m loving the bambi range which would look super cool and trendy when stuck on one of their complimentary wallpapers.
I’m especially lusting after their black & white range but if colour is more your thing, they have some bright ones too. The turquoise and red animal silhouettes one pictured above is one of my favourites as is the deer silhouette one in bright reds and yellows. But there are lots more to choose from.
Last, but not least are these gold wallpapers that are just divine. They’d work in an adult space or a kiddy space which makes them extra special for me. The pure gold one is something I’ve had my eye on for a while… it’s so rich and beautiful. To check out all these wallpapers and to find stockists head to Onszelf… and if your Dutch isn’t quite up to speed, you may need a little help from google translate.
Stunning: Black & white silhouette mobiles
May 2, 2012
I’m a sucker for mobiles and not just for babies. I would have them hanging all over my home if the husband let me! But since he doesn’t, I’m left to admire from afar and these black and white silhouette mobiles are definitely ones to be admired. I chanced upon them and and fell completely in love. These mobiles are so simple yet so stunning, so eye-catching.
Designed by Helene, an American lady with Japanese ancestry, you can see the Japanese influences coming through in the simplicity of design. I love the silhouette style and I can just picture the animals and birds dancing and moving as they hang above a baby cot or in a play space. There are quite a few on offer and they all come in black or ivory. My favourite is the merry go round mobile pictured at the top… I love the animal shapes and the choice of animals featured. To see these and the rest, head to Helen’s online store called Ige Design.
Chic Swedish homewares for kids and adults too
April 19, 2012
Today I discovered Mini Empire, a fabulous little store from Sweden. Mini Empire is all about the world of animals and deep woods depicted through the wonderful illustrations of Jenny Von Döbeln. These illustrations adorn cushions, posters, wallpaper and more. The beauty of all the goodies is that they can be appreciated by anyone, regardless of age or gender and their main aim is to bring a little bit of fantasy and fun in to your home. I’m loving the owl print especially on the wallpaper.
There are a lot of stylish goodies to be had from Mini Empire but some of my absolute favourites are the black and white prints, and in particular the ‘Africa’ poster with the elephant, lion and bird. I absolutely love the style of illustration as well as the intricate detail of each animal. This poster would look super cool in a kiddy space or an adult space… in fact I’m seriously tempted. You can visit Mini Empire to see all their chic offerings and you’ll also find a link to their store on their site.
Delightful paper sculptures
April 18, 2012
Apart from posters and prints, you don’t often find art for kids. So when I discovered these animal shaped paper sculptures, I was quite delighted. They are bold and bright and come mainly in the form of various different animals but there are also words/kids names ones for hanging on a wall. Polka Dot Sundays is the creation of Jaina, an artist who worked on kids TV where she discovered the magical possibilities of newspaper.
Jaina hand makes these colourful sculptures from her London studio and all of the sculptures start life as a scrunched up ball of newspaper. But with Jaina’s creativity and her unique sculpting process, each piece ends up being original and delightful. I can picture one of the beautiful birdies perched on a kids bookshelf, or even on my bookshelf. While many of the sculptures are aimed at kids, I think they are great eye candy for any age. Visit Polka Dot Sundays where you can see the entire collection and you’ll also find a link to Jaina’s shop.[nrelate-related]
Wonderful origami swans
April 16, 2012
How wonderful are these origami swans? Made entirely of paper, they are so intricately designed. The colours are fresh and fun and these swans would make a highly desirable gift or make for a fun, decorative sculpture in a nursery. These swans are so unusual and so eye-catching that I had to share even though there was only one left at the time of writing this. They’re from Specks & Keepings, a small US store that sells handmade objects for the home and for kids. All the goodies are beautifully formed and are the kind of things that bring a smile to your face, just like these swans.
Colour burst: Pompom’s, garlands and bunting
April 10, 2012
I’m a bit garland, bunting, pom pom obsessed so when I saw these colourful ones on Style Cookie I just had to feature them. Garlands and pom poms are an inexpensive way to add a splash of colour to any kids room or a kids party and they look so fabulous too. These bold and bright ones are by the Dutch Engel who say that hanging these up makes you feel happy and I couldn’t agree more. There’s something so celebratory and cheerful about pom poms and garlands.
I’m loving these honeycomb pom poms too and think it’s a fab idea to hang some above a kids bed. I bet that would bring a smile to your face each morning. These ones come in a huge range of divine colours so choosing just one colour is going to be hard. I’m loving the sunny yellow but I also love the deep, rich plum colour. You can visit Engel to see all the range or visit Lifes a Party where they have a selection.
Kids room style: black & white
April 3, 2012
When you’re thinking colours for your toddler or kids room, black & white probably don’t even come up. It’s definitely not the most popular choice of colour scheme for a kiddy room but if done right, it works and how! Black and white rooms can look super stunning and can really have the wow factor. It may not be for everyone but I’m a big fan and I’ve rounded up 5 kids rooms that do black & white oh so well:
I love them all but if I had to choose a favourite, I think it would be number 2. I love how the black and white cars with hints of red are placed by the window and I love the bed too. I also like the idea of having a chalkboard wall as they’ve done in rooms 4 and 5. It’s easy to do and any kid would love it.

A sleepy little mouse
April 2, 2012
A while ago I shared some whimsical mouse mobiles with you which proved to be a popular find. Those mouse mobiles were the creation of Laurence Bonnet, a French lady with a penchant for making delicate little treasures that are oh so beautiful. Today I’m lusting after her newest hand made creations which include these adorable pajama clad mice that come complete with a little wire frame bed and can be suspended from the ceiling… perfect little eye candy above a cot or toddler bed. These sleeping mouse mobiles are a limited edition creation where each piece is unique and numbered.
All of Laurence’s mobiles and soft toys are hand made with the greatest attention to detail and lots and lots of imagination. Another of her new creations are these cuddly and cool looking bears. I love the whole father son thing and I love how cool and collected papa bear looks with his scarf, top hat and suspenders ensemble. Laurence sells her creations under the Rose Miniscule name and that’s where you’ll find all these gorgeous little treasures.
