When you think of a baby nursery, you probably think of colours like white, yellow, powder blue or pink. The one colour that probably doesn’t come straight to mind is grey and yet it’s such a fantastic colour for a nursery. It can be mixed in with any other soft colour to create a calming atmosphere. My favourite colour combo right now is dusty pink and lightish grey. I can’t seem to move away from these two colours together so I thought I would go looking for some pink and grey nursery decor ideas and here’s what I found. I’m especially loving that three little pigs mobile – so cute!
It’s been a while since I did my last Friday Finds post so I thought today I would share some sweetness from around the web. To start with I’m loving this adorable new collection of Scandinavian interiors for kids and adults too.
How many of these crazy things have you done as a parent?
Have you seen the stunning new Spring/Summer 2015 collection from Oyoy? Oyoy is a Danish interiors brand for kids and adults and in true Scandinavian style, they make bold and beautiful cushions, soft toys, blankets, bedding and more. From the new collection for kids, it’s the soft toys that are really standing out for me but then again the adventure rug (pictured second from top) and the circle rug are very cool too.
The soft toys aren’t just toys but cushions too so they’re equally good for playing with or decorating with. These are the kind of playful cushions that I wouldn’t even object to having in my living room – especially that turtle! Then there’s the adventure rug in striking black and off white which would be so much fun in any kids room. And the circle rug – simple, minimal but so eye-catching. Forget the kids, I want that for my room over some light wooden floors. While I’m lusting after their kids stuff, their grown-up things are equally lust-worthy so they’re worth checking out too. I’m just glad I have a whole house to do up soon so I may just have an excuse to indulge in some of this!
Ages ago I bought a large cardboard igloo for Anya. I had stored it away and completely forgotten about it until we moved house a month ago. As soon as she spotted it, she wanted to put it up and so we did over the Christmas holidays. This igloo has become her favourite little space in the whole house. She reads in there, plays in there, hides in there and even takes her quilt and pillow and has a little rest in there. Of course any kid loves a ‘secret’ hiding place and this igloo has so reminded me of that. Actually I don’t think you can ever be too young or too old to want a little hiding place! So when we do up Anya’s room in our new home, I know that I will be creating a tipi corner for her. While the igloo is lovely it is very large so a tipi will be far more practical as it doesn’t take up nearly much room. With that in mind, I went looking for some tipi corner inspiration and here are my favourites:
I love the simplicity of this teepee and the way it has been decorated in shades of white and black with just a simple string of lights. This might be for a kids room but it would look equally great in a living space if you wanted to create a cosy corner for all the family to enjoy.
This is such a gorgeous and girly room and the dusty pink teepee just adds to the feminine vibes of the room. I love how most of the room is white but the pink teepee just adds that splash of colour.
While I always think I prefer plain coloured fabrics, it’s when I see prints and patterns mixed like this that I start re-thinking. I love this printed teepee that looks so great with all the other patterns surrounding it. This space works perfectly for a boy or girl so would be great for a shared room.
Teepee’s aren’t actually that hard to make so you could make your own and then mix and match a range of fabrics like they’ve done on this one above. These pretty floral fabrics look great all together especially against the geometric rug and cushions.
Even if your child’s room doesn’t have space for a teepee, I really would be tempted to put one in a shared family space like a corner of the living room. I think once we get Anya’s room done with a teepee in there, it won’t be just her using it – I can picture me spending hours in there playing games with her or just reading books to her. Do you have a teepee in your home?
Character themed or over colourful kids and baby bedding just doesn’t do it for me. I personally prefer children’s bedding to be as simple and minimal as possible but that doesn’t mean it has to be just black and white. I totally appreciate that a few carefully chosen colours thrown in can work really well. That’s why I’m loving this new collection of baby and kids bedding from Australia. Tiny little polka dots in charcoal or neon pink adorn the sheets which are complimented with a beautiful two-tone blanket. There’s also a sheet with little yellow hearts that is quite adorable for baby boy or girl. And then for older kids you’ve got the dotty sheets with matching duvets which can also be paired with the two-tone blankets. Very simple, very classy.
Apart from these stylish bedding sets for kids, also on offer are some unusual and fun prints. What I love most about the prints is that they really are for any age – from little babies to adults. Many of the prints compliment the bedding sets really well or would be a great way to add pops of colour to an all white nursery or kids room. Of all I think I’m loving that quirky dog print and the charcoal polka dot linen is just lovely too. In fact I would be tempted to go with both together for a boys room.
Today, lets take a break from the Christmas gift lists and look at some kids room inspiration. We are moving house next week (eek!) and the new place needs to be done up from scratch. It hasn’t been decorated in 40 years! So my brain is swimming with all kinds of decor ideas which I’ve been collecting on my pinterest boards including ideas for Anya’s new room. While I can’t seem to move away from the whole black and white colour scheme, I’m liking the idea of adding an extra pop of colour especially for a kids room. Recently I came across the above room and it really inspired me to think about red as the extra colour. Have you ever considered red for a kids room? It’s not a colour I would choose as a main one as too much red can be overbearing for me but if used sparingly with lots of white and some black, it can look quite striking. And red is a great colour for boy or girl so it would be a great choice for a shared room too. Here are some of my favourite rooms with pops of red:
As these rooms show, you can add splashes of red in many different ways; one piece of red furniture, red bedding, red toys or even just a bold red poster that stands out will do the trick. Because red is such a bright and vibrant color, you don’t need a lot of it to make an impact. In the third picture I love the blue, black and white colour scheme which works so well with the bright red poster – something a bit different for a boys room. And in the last picture just the smallest red accents look so great. I am really liking this colour scheme for a kids room and maybe this will be the one for Anya’s room. What do you think? Would you consider red as an accent colour?
We are hoping to move house soon (fingers crossed it all goes through). So I’ve been busy collecting all sorts of home decor inspiration over on my pinterest boards. From kitchens to living rooms to kids rooms because this new place will need everything doing from scratch. While it’s always fun choosing new furniture, for me it’s even more fun to decorate and customise rooms with your own personal touch. Especially rooms like bathrooms where lets, face it, bathroom furniture doesn’t exactly excite me. So I’ve been looking at ways to add some style and character to all our bathrooms to be. I know the look I want for our bathroom but for Anya’s I’ve been checking out some fun ideas. A simple white bathroom suite is a given for me as I couldn’t imagine going for any other colour, so I’ve been looking at ideas of how to liven this up. With that in mind here are six fun and stylish decor ideas that I’m loving for a kids bathroom:
I’ve grouped these two bathrooms together because they both use grey but they each still bring very different ideas. Light or dark, grey is such a great colour for a bathroom as it works so well against white furniture. Also this kind of colour scheme means that your kids won’t outgrow the space in a hurry, if ever! In the first bathroom, I love the natural fabrics as well as the playful touches with things like the elephant parade. All easily removable but great to add a bit of fun to a kids bathroom. In the second bathroom, the use of one vintage piece amidst the modern white bathroom suite adds bags of character. This is something I’m even considering for my own bathroom. And of course the wall lettering is a nice touch too – you could even personalise with your kids names.
Another way to add some personality and fun to a bathroom is by adding unexpected things. In the first bathroom, the addition of that green canopy is such a fun idea. It feels like the bathtub is under a large green leaf somewhere outdoors. And that canopy is simply a bed canopy from Ikea costing just £10! While this bathroom isn’t white, I think this canopy idea would look just as amazing in an all white bathroom. The next bathroom is given a very playful feel by customising the shower door with wall sticker. Shower doors are boring so this is another great way to add some fun in to the bath space. There are so many wall stickers around at the moment so you could practically choose anything.
Going for bold, bright colours either with tiles or with paint can brighten up a kids bathroom and make it as fun a space as their bedroom. Even though this is a look your kids might outgrow, it’s still great for quite a few years when they’re young. In the first bathroom, the bright red tiles look striking against the simple white bathroom furniture and I love that it’s not done in half measures. In both these bathrooms, they were going for a bold look and that’s exactly what they’ve got. The second bathroom is more childish and playful with the different shades of green and yellow and the grass and tree painted effect. It almost feels like a play space so it might even encourage kids to brush their teeth… okay maybe not!
I’m loving all these kids bathroom ideas but my favourite has to be the grey bathrooms. The grey looks so great against the white and it’s an ageless look too. So when we do up Anya’s bathroom it’s going to be a simple white bathroom suite from somewhere affordable like Betta Living and then the fun begins with customising and adding personal touches. Perhaps even a piece of fun art or some kind of wall hanging. What’s your favourite look?

Polar bears as we all know are one of the most dangerous creatures on earth but they look completely the opposite. They look so soft and furry, cuddly and cute that it seems impossible that they could harm. Dangerous or not, they do make adorable decor for a kids room. They lend themselves to all kinds of kids stuff from bedding to cushions and so much more. And besides their cute looks, I love the whole black and white colour scheme which is both modern and stylish. So today I’ve picked out some of the best polar bear themed decor for a kids rooms. How fun is that bookshelf?
I often share ideas with you on how to decorate kids rooms with wall stickers, wallpaper, rugs and so much more. While these things are all great to help you create the look you want, there is also a lot that you can do with just a simple tin of paint. Nothing more, nothing less. It’s quick, easy and budget friendly but yet the possibilities of getting creative with paint are endless. Here are five ways to have fun with paint in a kids room:
This is such a simple idea but so effective to create a cosy little corner. Rather than just paint straight lines, I love that they have painted a house shape which really makes it feel like a separate space within the room. I especially like this idea to easily create a small reading nook in an older child’s room.
Two-tone walls seem to be all the rage at the moment. I’ve seen them mostly done where there is a straight line separating the top from the bottom, but this triangle effect is so much more fun. It also allows you to use shades like that peach colour which probably would be too much if you painted a whole wall in it. But the colour just at the bottom allows the furniture and shelves to stand out.
This isn’t a kids room but this idea to paint rough shapes on the wall is so great for a kids room, a nursery or a playroom. It’s a brilliant way to add pops of colour to a room without needing to restrict yourself to just one or two colours. You can use paint shapes like these to highlight shelves and other wall displays and you can even paint colourful frames around posters instead of hanging them in real frames.
Using big blocks of colour to mark out different areas in a room is another way to get creative with paint. With this look, as long as the rest of the walls are white, you can choose any two colours bright, pastel or neutral. This idea is so great for a shared room to clearly mark out spaces and each child gets to choose their favourite colour too.
This is what I call a feature wall! I’ve often seen rooms where one wall is painted in a different colour but this space takes that idea a lot further by painting not only the wall but everything on it including the radiator and also using a very bright colour. I love that there are no half measures here – this wall makes a statement and it looks striking. A great way to liven up any kids space and with this effect, I think the bolder the colour the better.
Would you try any of these? What’s your favourite look?
A couple of weeks ago Anya lost her first tooth. I cried. I’m not normally emotional and have always enjoyed watching her grow up. When the baby years passed and she turned in to a toddler, I felt nothing but joy and delight in seeing her grow and develop. But this milestone was different. This milestone felt like my baby was no longer a baby and was really growing up (sob). Where have these five years gone?
I was soon distracted by Anya’s huge excitement right from the moment she realised she had a wobbly tooth. The tooth fairy is something she has desperately been waiting for and wishing everyday that she would lose a tooth for over a year. More than Santa, the tooth fairy has totally captured her imagination. So that night, along with the tooth fairy pillow loaded with cash and tucked under her pillow, I sprinkled some glitter around her bed. That moment of waking up and discovering the tooth had gone from the pillow and finding some money there instead was priceless – the look on her face was pure delight and amazement. She was jumping up and down and shouting ‘the tooth fairy came, the tooth fairy really came’. And the bonus was finding this adorable golden tooth pillow which she loves. Anya may be growing up but she’s still a child full of wonder and imagination and that is something I hope will stay with her for a long time no matter how old she is.
To celebrate this big milestone I wanted to do something special. So I partnered with Oeuf NYC to give one lucky reader the chance to win this adorable handmade golden tooth fairy pillow. Oeuf kindly sent one for Anya and there’s one for one of you too. The tooth is made of soft baby alpaca wool and has a little pocket at the back to put money in. Anya loves her tooth and has been sleeping with it under her pillow every night since she got it. And I have to agree – it’s so sweet. Oeuf’s tooth fairy pillow is the original and the best and so it had to be this one. Have your kids lost a tooth yet? How did you feel with the first one?
