The Black Apple: Super quirky and curious prints
March 15, 2011
I discovered The Black Apple yesterday and boy, did I like. It’s an Etsy store peddling prints and notebooks mainly. While there’s nothing unusual in that, the unusual-ness comes from the visuals which are quirky, curious and utterly mesmerising. There are so many to choose from that it’s really hard to pick a favourite, especially when all are so captivating. But the ‘Beekeeper’ does have a certain special appeal for me as does the ‘Tattooed Lady’. Besides the prints, there are some cute n’ quirky notebooks too. I’m liking the ‘Sweet as Pie’ set of 3 notebooks and also feeling the love for ‘Wolf Boy’ in a weird and wonderful way. The Black Apple small prints cost $16 while the notebooks cost $12 for a set of 3 and they ship everywhere from $5. The super talented Emily Martin, owner and creator, has seriously got quite an imagination which has definitely grabbed my attention!
Letter writing sets so sweet
January 18, 2011
Japanese design is hot and I’m a humongous fan. Sometimes quirky, sometimes minimal, sometimes sweet and sometime just uber cool… but always hot. I recently spotted these kiddy letter writing sets by Japanese designer Shinzi Katoh and had to share. They’re just so sweet. On offer are a set called Red Hood Girl and Red Hood Forest Girl. Get a set and your pre-schooler may just scribble a colourful note to the grandparents or even to you. Or use them as hand written invites for your kiddy’s next birthday bash. Each set contains 10 sheets of paper, 5 envelopes and 5 stickers. The Shinzi Katoh letter writing sets cost £5.50 plus delivery at £1.75.

Free: Make your own paper city
January 11, 2011
Made by Joel is a blog I love. Joel’s a daddy with creativity running through every pore of his being. He creates all manner of craft projects for his kids and then he shares them on his blog. Thank you Joel. Today I wanted to share his make your own paper city. It’s a cool city with lots of little people, all hand drawn by Joel. All you have to do is print out the template for your kids and then let them have fun cutting out the people and colouring in the city if they like. And they could even add a dog, a tree or anything they like to their city. Perfect for the grey, dull, rainy days that January often brings.
P.S. Also checkout the paper city vehicles and helicopter that Joels added to the collection.
Get pencil tidy with Dinoz the dinosaur
December 28, 2010
Dinoz the dinosaur is a funky little chap to store pencils in. He comes in classic white, sunny yellow and hot pink. He can also be used to hold herbs but for the kidlets he’s a quirky and fun way to get pencil tidy. Dinoz the dinosaur costs £25.60 plus £4.90 delivery. He’d also make an unusual gift for a bambino who’s big in to drawing and colouring.
Super pretty paper flowers to adorn your gifts
December 23, 2010
If you want an easy way to make your Christmas gifts look super pretty, don’t miss these. And, you can still get them in time if you order soon. From etsy, these paper flowers are a sweet alternative to bows or ribbon. They cost $3.50 for 12 flowers. You get a PDF emailed to you and just print and cut… of course if your kids old enough for scissors just delegate. It’ll keep them busy doing something fun and they’ll probably think of 20 other creative ways to use these paper flowers. Made by a store called Paper Glitter, I’m thinking of using them as some sort of table decor and not just for Christmas.

A halloween idea
September 15, 2010
I maybe a tiny bit early talking about Halloween but I spotted these on Etsy and wanted to share as they have to be ordered from the U.S. so may take a while. These little 3D discs will jazz up plain white or brown paper bags. Just paste them on and you’ve got some cool ‘trick or treat’ bags. They’d also make fun and festive cupcake toppers. They come as a set of 6 for $5 plus $3 postage, measure 6.35cms and can be ordered from Old Lady Bern’s Etsy shop.

August 21, 2010
While internet traveling this morning I stumbled across Haciendo el indio, a little Spanish shop with big ideas. Ooh… I’m seriously in love. Checkout their custom printable cards – you can choose from gato (or cat), pollito (bird), tortuga (turtle) or elefante (elephant). Pay your €4.50, email them your text and they’ll send you a PDF which you can print away at home.
They’ve also got other invites, personalised A4 prints and birth announcement cards. All extremely wantable and at around €4 – €10, there’s no reason not to indulge.
Don’t forget to checkout ebabee, our little auction site.
