Tea and Kate

June 10, 2014

"unusual gifts for home shop UK"I discovered the charming boutique Tea and Kate a while ago and have been meaning to share it with you ever since.  It’s run by a mum of four called Kate (as you probably guessed) who has a passion for the prettiest things for the home and for kids.  Her collection of products, mostly by independent designers, are all so cheerful and happy.   It’s the kind of stuff that will bring a ray of sunshine in to any home.

Kate’s collections include some beautiful handmade dolls, some fun toys and gorgeous decorations for the home.  Amongst my favourites are the tutu wearing cat dolls, the simple French toy storage baskets and those pretty roll-up mattresses that are ideal for some floor seating in a kids space.  There are also lots of unusual little things to delight for the home.  Tea and Kate is a boutique to explore not just for your own home but if you ever need to give someone a special gift, then you will definitely find it here.

Once in a while a new toy or a new clothing line comes along that makes my heart beat a little faster.  This is one of those times.  How beautiful is that kids stamp set and this jungle puzzle.  I’m already a big fan of wooden toys especially when they are kept in their natural state.  Called Bleebla and created by a pair of architects from Portugal, this is their first collection of toys with a jungle theme.  They plan to release more wooden toys all with a wildlife theme including sea life, forest and field.  In our home stamp sets are very popular not just with Anya but with her friends too (and maybe even me :)) and this one with 10 animal stamps would go down a treat!

"illustrated board games for kids"

In the UK, we’re on half term school holidays this week and after having a glorious week of sunshine last week, this week is rain, rain and more rain.  So we’re inside more than out and one of our favourite indoor activities is board games.  We’ve been playing all our old favourites like checkers and snakes & ladders but I love finding new games to play too.  So I went looking and came across these beautiful board games from Hungary.  Inspired by the magical world of fairy tales and the vivid imagination of a child, these games are beautifully illustrated in great detail.  Mostly made by hand, these games are made to last through generations.  Even the counters aren’t the usual plastic pieces but instead the bases are made of wood and they come with detailed drawings on cardboard that slot in to the bases.  These captivating board games are made by Marbushka who only have retailers in Hungary but they ship worldwide.

Giant colouring fun

"giant colouring poster""indoor holiday activities for kids""giant colouring posters kids"

Whenever there are holidays coming up, I try and stock up on a few ‘at home’ activities for Anya specially for those days where I am either too busy to play much or we can’t go out for whatever reason.  Luckily this Easter we are going away so I haven’t needed to plan but if you’re staying home and looking for some indoor entertainment, these new giant colouring posters from Omy could be just the thing.   When they say giant they really do mean giant as the posters are 1.8 metres long!  That means a lot of colouring.  The posters can be put up on a wall or simply laid out on the floor and the colouring can begin.  There are Paris, London and New York city posters as well as a world map poster and you can find a selection at Petit Home.   If you feel like it, you can join in the colouring fun too.  I know I would have to have a go.

"natural wood nursery furniture"

I’m a big fan of wooden things especially when the wood is left in it’s natural state and not painted or decorated in any way.  From wooden toys to wooden furniture and even wooden bags, I like them all.  Here is a selection of natural wooden things I’m currently loving for mamas and babies (that vintage rattan case – love!):

1.  small vintage rattan case…  2.   wooden animal toys…  3.  minimal happiness high chair…  4.  hand carved stirring spoons…  5.  ayurvedic yogi soap…  6.  natural baby cot

Feeling fruity

"fruit decor for kids"

This whole fruit trend for kids isn’t going anywhere and I’m glad.  Fruits make a nice change from animals and with Spring coming (soon I hope), nothing says fresh quite like a fruit print does.  So here are a few of my favourite fruity pieces:

1.  Tomato poster…  2.  Cherries top…  3.  Fruit & veg picture book…  4. Fruity dolls…  5.  Apple board…  6.  Lemon baby trousers.

"wooden animal toys to build""wooden stacking crocodile toy""build your own wooden toys"

These wooden toys by Karl Zahn are so beautiful and imaginative.  They include a set of 5 stacking crocodiles and a range of animals that come in pieces for you to build.  You can also interchange the animal parts to create new creatures.  But these toys aren’t just for play; they’d look equally great displayed in a nursery or even on an adult bookshelf.  My favourite is that little elephant although the stacking crocodiles are pretty cool too.

"shades of blue mood board"Using different shades of the same colour can look quite striking in a kids room or any room.  Some colours work better than others and I think blue is one of the best because it has so many different shades.  So for today’s pinterest colour palette I gathered a range of different tones of blue which I think work equally well for a boy or a girls space.

1.  Vintage wallpaper and chair,  2.  Toy boat,  3.  Woolen cloud decorations,  4.  Girls outfit,  5.  Rag doll and shoes

Pins from Youpou, Smudgetikka and my pinterest boards.  Are you on pinterest?

My secret hideout…

October 18, 2013

"kids play tents and tipis"A mini house within a house has got to be one of childhood’s biggest pleasures.   Hiding out in a play tent or tipi and imaging all sorts of adventures is so much fun for any kid.  I think every little kid should have one whether bought or just put together.  There are so many ways to create a secret hide out and make it work in the space you have like this house shaped bed or that mattress and cushions on the floor with some pretty fabric thrown over.  But the most awesome one has to be that green yurt inside which is that super lucky kids entire bedroom!

Have a fun weekend!

"colourful wooden stacking blocks""colourful wooden toy blocks""colourful wooden animal puzzle"I am very much a minimalist at heart and adore simple wooden toys that are left in their natural state or painted in just white or black.  The simpler they are and the less color they have, the better they look to me.  But once in a while there comes along a toy literally bursting with colour and I can’t resist.  This is one of those times.  These Raitti wooden toys have been created by designer Aino-Maija Metsola for Marimekko.  In true Marimekko style, there is bright colour everywhere and the graphics are are no less bold. My favourite is the animal adorned stacking blocks but the whole range is incredibly striking, don’t you think?

P.S. Have you entered my giveaway yet? You could win some beautiful French clothes of your choice.
