"harlequin circus themed kids ideas"Circus themed kids things have been around for ages and aren’t going anywhere in a hurry.  While some of them can be cute, it’s the circus inspired harlequin pattern that I love best of all.  It’s such a simple geometric pattern that has loads of style without any of the fuss.  I love that you can play with many different colours on any harlequin adorned object or you can go for a more minimalistic 2 colour look.  I was reminded of how much I love this pattern when I spotted that circus bunny on pinterest so I went looking for a few more things and here’s what I found:

1.  Decorative bunny…  2.  Harlequin cushions…  3.  Porcelain bowl…  4.  Animal shorts   5.  Circus poster

"wooden toy animals and puzzles"For the past few days we’ve had some house guests from Melbourne.  They’re old friends of ours who have a 3.5 year old son.  My daughter, being an only child, has been in play heaven.  She’s absolutely loving having a ready made playmate and for me it’s been fun observing this playful duo who didn’t really know each other but have ended up becoming the best of friends.  While they sometimes make up their own cute little games, they have also been playing creatively and imaginatively with my daughters toys.  Toys that she hasn’t looked at in the past 6 months and I was beginning to wonder why I bought them in the first place.  But I’m very happy that in the last week the toys have got a much needed workout.

As a result of all this play going on in our home, I’ve got toys on the mind.  This morning while surfing facebook I came across Susha Toys from Russia and I loved them.  Creative, imaginative and attractive, these wooden toys look like bags of fun too.  They’re made and designed by a couple who wanted something special for their first born so they decided to make their own toys.  The range includes toys that encourage a child to think, to create and of course to have fun.  They offer toys for babies and well as toddlers and slightly older kids too.  I love many of the toys but my favourite is that simple set of wooden animals with their detachable ears and noses.  So cute and so gorgeous!

"rabbit iphone case"This week’s picks for mama & baby… let mama carry her mobile in this quirky iPhone case while baby plays with that eclectic bunny soft toy.

*Bunny soft toy discovered on pinterest.  Are you on pinterest?  If you are, here’s where you can see my pinterest boards.

'kids bedlinen with geometric shapes"A few days ago I came across some kids bedding by Oh My Kids from Belgium and I was smitten.  Their simple aesthetic of lots of white with tiny bits of colour really appealed to me.  Also, I just adore the random scattering of little shapes which extends across most of their designs.  I need to start looking for new bedlinen for Anya soon, and this is definitely going on my shortlist.

"european clothes for kids"I soon discovered that Oh My Kids also create handmade clothes for kids which include dresses, skirts, sweatshirts and leggings.  I’m not normally a sweatshirts and leggings kind of gal but these ones are an exception.  They’re so simple, stylish and fun.  And that little balloon skirt… too cute!

And before I go, have you entered our fab giveaway?

"colourful kids rooms"Lately I’ve been obsessing over black and white interiors but every once in a while I see bold and bright kids rooms popping with colour and I change my mind.  Today is one of those times… when I saw these rooms I fell in love with colour all over again.  We all know that kids adore colour.  Have you ever seen a child colour in a picture in one or two or even just three colours?  Neither have I!  These rooms work especially well for me because they’ve all used white or very light backgrounds and then added the brightest accents in a range of colours.

P.S. Have you entered our giveaway?

Today I have a fantastic giveaway for you so read on…

"wooden toy kitchen"I have a very dear friend who is quite a bit older than me and she has 2 kids in their late teens.  I go over to her place often with my 4 year old who isn’t usually a fan of accompanying me to places where there are no young kids but this friend’s home is an exception.  Simply because my daughter always gets delightful wooden toys to play with and sometimes even gets to take a couple home.  My friend has saved many of her kids wooden toys from 15+ years ago because she loves them for the memories they hold and intends to one day pass them on to her grand kids.   That’s the thing with wooden toys, they never go out of fashion and can be played with from one generation to the next.

"wooden toys musical instruments"I too am a huge wooden toy fan and have kept all the ones that Anya has collected over the last 4 years.  I’ve perched them on some shelves in her room and for now they serve as colourful and fun decorations that bring splashes of colour to her room.  So I’m delighted to introduce you to the Wooden Toy Shop which as the name suggests, does nothing but wooden toys.  And I’ve teamed up with them to bring you a fantastic giveaway.  One lucky reader will win a £75 voucher to spend on whatever they like at the Wooden Toy Shop.  The choice is entirely yours.

"wooden stacking toys"The Wooden Toy Shop sell some of my favourite brands like Brio, Plan Toys and Janod.  They have toys, games and puzzles for babies, toddlers and older kids.  There’s a lot of choice so it doesn’t matter if you have a 1 year old or 7 year old, there’s something for every kid.  If the choice was mine, I think I’d go for one of their play kitchens or maybe even the BBQ set since summer is coming up but more importantly, what will you choose?

GIVEAWAY ENTRY DETAILS:  One lucky reader picked at random will win a £75 voucher to spend on toys of their choice from the Wooden Toy Shop.  For your chance to win just leave a comment below… easy!  Say hi or whatever you like but keep it nice!  One comment per person.  Sorry, but this giveaway is open to UK residents only.  The competition closes at midnight (UK time) on Sunday 5th May 2013.  Any entries after this time will not be counted.  The winner will be announced on Tuesday 7th May on our facebook page and on this post.  And finally thanks to the Wooden Toy Shop for this generous giveaway.  Good luck!

mama & baby…

"summer looks for girls"This week’s picks for mama & baby… let mama decorate with this chic colour block pillow while baby sports that cool mustard and navy look this summer.

"baby memory book"I’ve never been a fan of baby journals because all the ones I’ve come across tend to be far too cutesy for my taste.  But I do like the idea of recording memories especially from a baby’s first year.  When Anya was born I couldn’t find a journal I liked, so I decided to create a large photo book where I recorded each month of her first year in photos and at the back I wrote about all the things I never wanted to forget.  My photo book was by Apple and it was beautifully printed with all my photo’s and written memories.  As much as I love my photo journal, I wish I had known about this baby journal by Pleased to Meet which I discovered a few days ago.  It’s so sweet but not cutesy with it’s simple illustrations and bold, bright colours.

"baby memory book"Pleased to Meet are the creation of a German couple who make other delightful journals like the Book of Friends which is lovely for slightly older babies and a wedding journal called ‘We did it’.  They also have some really fun and chic limited edition prints with my favourite being the cat one even though I’m no cat lover!  Then you’ve got other stationery including cards, pretty boxes and more.  I found this lovely brand at Mokkasin which is a Swedish store I love and they have a selection of these goodies to buy.

"wedding journal memory book"Even though I’ve been married 10 years I’m still so very tempted by this beautiful wedding journal.  Sigh!

Happy toys…

April 23, 2013

"handcarved wooden toys"I recently came across these ‘Happy Toys’ and I wanted to share.  The toys are made by a Dutch design duo called Usuals and are carved from spare wood found on their family farm.  I’m a big fan of wooden toys and these are probably some of the most natural ones I’ve ever seen.   I love the little details they’ve put on each one without using anything but natural wood.  Very creative and very cool!

A furry find…

April 22, 2013

"fun necklaces for girls"You may remember these kids dress up fox masks I shared with you a while ago.  The creator of those masks is Lucille Michieli and she has now created some wonderful new accessories for girls.  I’m loving those (faux) wolf fur necklaces and the rabbit ear hairbands.  What I love about Lucille is that all of her creations are so unique and just so cool!  Her range is always small and consists of no more than a handful of things but it’s the creativity that goes in to each accessory that wows me every time.  You can still get the fox masks and some are even on sale but today it’s the wolf fur necklace in pink that I’m hankering after.
