"baby memory book"I’ve never been a fan of baby journals because all the ones I’ve come across tend to be far too cutesy for my taste.  But I do like the idea of recording memories especially from a baby’s first year.  When Anya was born I couldn’t find a journal I liked, so I decided to create a large photo book where I recorded each month of her first year in photos and at the back I wrote about all the things I never wanted to forget.  My photo book was by Apple and it was beautifully printed with all my photo’s and written memories.  As much as I love my photo journal, I wish I had known about this baby journal by Pleased to Meet which I discovered a few days ago.  It’s so sweet but not cutesy with it’s simple illustrations and bold, bright colours.

"baby memory book"Pleased to Meet are the creation of a German couple who make other delightful journals like the Book of Friends which is lovely for slightly older babies and a wedding journal called ‘We did it’.  They also have some really fun and chic limited edition prints with my favourite being the cat one even though I’m no cat lover!  Then you’ve got other stationery including cards, pretty boxes and more.  I found this lovely brand at Mokkasin which is a Swedish store I love and they have a selection of these goodies to buy.

"wedding journal memory book"Even though I’ve been married 10 years I’m still so very tempted by this beautiful wedding journal.  Sigh!

Happy toys…

April 23, 2013

"handcarved wooden toys"I recently came across these ‘Happy Toys’ and I wanted to share.  The toys are made by a Dutch design duo called Usuals and are carved from spare wood found on their family farm.  I’m a big fan of wooden toys and these are probably some of the most natural ones I’ve ever seen.   I love the little details they’ve put on each one without using anything but natural wood.  Very creative and very cool!

A furry find…

"fun necklaces for girls"You may remember these kids dress up fox masks I shared with you a while ago.  The creator of those masks is Lucille Michieli and she has now created some wonderful new accessories for girls.  I’m loving those (faux) wolf fur necklaces and the rabbit ear hairbands.  What I love about Lucille is that all of her creations are so unique and just so cool!  Her range is always small and consists of no more than a handful of things but it’s the creativity that goes in to each accessory that wows me every time.  You can still get the fox masks and some are even on sale but today it’s the wolf fur necklace in pink that I’m hankering after.

"red tomato baby bodysuit"This week’s picks for mama & baby… let mama wear this minimalistic bright red shirt dress while baby wears that adorable tomato bodysuit.

"yellow nursery decor"I love yellow!  It’s such a happy colour, don’t you think?  It’s probably my favourite colour especially for kids and babies.  And since the sun has graced us with it’s presence after months, I thought it was time to do a yellow post.  Here’s what I currently love for a happy, sunny summer:

1. Bird drawing book…  2. Patent leather dolly shoe…  3. Handmade lion soft toy…  4. Lemon tote bag or storage sack…  5. Harper sunsuit with triangle design…  6.  Modern striped citrine rug…  7. Printed rabbit patch baby quilt.

Mina Perhonen kids…

April 16, 2013

"mina perhonen japanese kids clothes"I’m loving these bold and beautiful prints by Mina Perhonen.  This brand is the creation of a Japanese designer who has a love for Finnish culture.  The name ‘Mina Perhonen’ is Finnish for ‘I butterfly’ reflecting the designers desire to create clothes as beautiful as butterflies.  All the prints are first sketched and then created in to original fabrics which are used to make their unique creations.  While the dress styles are simple, it’s the fabrics designs that are the real show stoppers for me.

"Japanese fashion for kids"I’m totally loving the bird print especially the brown birds on the blue/grey background.  Even the translucent apple print is very cool and perfect for Spring.  Mina Perhonen also makes some funky women’s clothes and some cute baby stuff too.  I haven’t seen much of it available in the UK or Europe but you can get a few kids pieces at Couverture.

"handmade crochet toys""handmade crochet rattle toy"Last Friday, we received a wonderful surprise in the post, all the way from Buenos Aires.  The super talented Adriana Torres sent us this delightful crochet lion rattle in a bed.  I have long been a fan of Adriana’s handmade creations which include adorable crochet toys, blankets and home wares.  This little lion with his beautiful blanket and bed is super cute and has already charmed my daughter (and me!).  Adriana’s brand is Miga de Pan where you can see more of her work or if you’d like to buy any of her creations, you’ll find a selection at Couverture.  If you haven’t come across Miga de Pan before then I seriously urge you to take a look… you won’t be disappointed.  And of course, a huge thanks to Adriana for this very special delivery.

The way we were…

"vintage clothes for children"This morning I came across a photo of some kids from the 1970’s which I promptly shared on my facebook page.  I’m a child of the 70’s and this photo brought back lots of memories of hairstyles, flairs, big cuffs and all that was so distinctive about the style of that decade.  I can still picture my mother wearing the flair-iest jeans I’ve ever seen paired with a heavily patterned floral shirt!  It’s such fun browsing images of that time and marveling at the styles with equal amounts of humour and appreciation.  All these thoughts and memories reminded me of Petite Vintage Boutique which has one of the best selections of vintage clothes for kids that I’ve ever seen.  The clothes here aren’t re-creations but are actual clothes from the 60’s and 70’s that have been used.  Dominique, the owner hunts down the best pieces always keeping quality in mind, so most of her pieces are in tip-top condition.  As they’re all original pieces, they are truly one of a kind so when they’re gone, they’re gone.  While I wouldn’t dress Anya in vintage on a daily basis, I’d love to add a few pieces like these to her wardrobe.  What fun!

"green tutu skirt"This week’s picks for mama & baby… let mama decorate with this gorgeous tulle adorned Liv light while baby wears that pretty mint green tutu.

"bold patterns prints for kids room"Lately I’ve been feeling the need to brighten up my wardrobe not just with colour but with bold prints and patterns.  I often wear solid blocks of colour but I don’t tend to wear many prints.  Now I’ve got the urge to go out and buy striking patterns and prints in bold and bright colours and mix and match them without any rules.  Whether I’ll be brave enough to do this is a completely different matter but when I saw this styling for kids spaces it reminded me that you can make contrasting patterns and colours work together.  These gorgeous spaces are created by interior stylist Linda Ahman.  You’ve got graphic patterns against floral ones, hot pinks with orange, stripes with polka dots and it all comes together so seamlessly.  Would you try something like this in your kids room or even in your wardrobe?  Seeing these images I’m now dreaming of having patterns and prints everywhere!
