With Winter well and truly here in London, I thought it was the perfect time to introduce you to these cosy and stylish kids blankets. I’ve long been a fan of Rafa kids and these blankets are one of their latest offerings. They all come in black, white and grey tones with either a sheep, leopard or dot design. The blankets are big so you and your kiddies can all snuggle under them together. I love this idea of spending long Winter afternoons snuggling under a big blanket while watching a film. Even though I’m not a cold weather person there are some things I love about Winter and big cosy blankets and quilts are definitely one of those things.

Spring is in the air…
February 1, 2013
I had my birthday in January. Nothing unusual about this except January is the bleakest month of the year in this part of the world. So it’s really not a good month for a birthday but this year at least I managed to escape for some winter sun. Growing up in Mumbai, January was the best month to have your birthday. Most Indians don’t celebrate Christmas so there was no Christmas hangover to speak of, it was a new year, the weather was at it’s best and everybody was on a high. How the tables have turned on me! But as bleak as January is, come the 1st of February and it feels like everyone has a renewed vigour, a spring in their step, a positive outlook once again. For me the 1st of February brings with it the hope of Spring and that’s what makes it special. Today, it feels like the worst of winter is over and so to celebrate the coming of Spring I wanted to share my first Spring 2013 collection with you. It’s a new brand from Sweden called Gabor & Friends and they make the most wonderful bed linen for babies, toddlers and kids.
Stylish, sophisticated kids bed linen is hard to come by and that’s why when I saw Gabor & Friends I couldn’t wait to share. On offer are duvet sets, blankets, crib bumpers and cushions. The prints, like the bird one, are so pretty but the solid colours of sea green and salmon are equally appealing (my favourite I think is that Purple Rain snuggle blanket). Most of the tones and shades used in Gabor & Friends’ Spring collection are soft, muted and understated except their cashmere-wool blankets that come in the boldest and brightest of colours. Many of the pieces are 2 sided – a print on one side and a solid colour on the other giving you the option to change the look as you please. I’m so loving this collection and looking at it really makes me feel like Spring is in the air. Gabor & Friends don’t sell through their site but you’ll find their cashmere blankets at the lovely Scandinavian Minimall who will soon be stocking the rest of the collection.
Cool chevron style for mama and baby
March 21, 2012
Chevrons seem to be all over at the moment and I’m loving it. Simple graphic patterns like stripes and chevrons work so well across nearly anything and best of all they look so stylish in an understated way… the best way according to me. I’ve picked out some sunny yellow and black chevron adorned goodies for both mama’s and babies:
1. Love this gorgeous black and white chevron print maxi dress by the ever stylish Anthropologie and you could even wear it when pregnant. 2. A sweet airplane baby mobile in yellow and teal by Cactus & Olive. 3. Simple and stylish bird prints for a nursery or an adult space by Tessyla.
4. A super modern and super sophisticated black and white baby blanket by Handmade by Paisley. 5. A yellow and white pinafore style dress that is perfect for spring by Sewn Natural. 6. A very cute chevron print elephant soft toy with big flappy ears by Lil Kingdom.
Superfly Lullabies: funky & fun baby blankets
January 11, 2012
Cutesy, frilly baby stuff just doesn’t cut it for me so when I read words like ‘adult-friendly baby items’ my interest is immediately peaked. That’s what I read about Superfly Lullabies and I had to check out their stuff. I found some very cool baby blankets, pillows and bibs. All the goodies are made from bold and bright fabrics sourced from hot design hubs like Japan, Scandinavia and USA and are then handcrafted in to funky and fun blankets, bibs and more. I’m loving the modern Matryoshka blanket which also doubles up as a baby playmat as do all the blankets. The bold red and white polka dotted print is another of my favourites. Superfly Lullabies was started by Julie, a mama who believes baby stuff should be refined and stylish, not fussy and frilly… just my kind of mama. To check out her collection visit Superfly Lullabies where you’ll find her shop too.
Tulip + i: Simply beautiful baby goodies
December 15, 2011
Sometimes there are things that land in my inbox that I can’t wait to share. Tulip + i is just one of those things. It’s a little Canadian boutique selling baby blankets, bibs, clothes, pillows and more, all made of beautiful washed linen. The colours are muted with soft greys, purples, pinks and browns complementing each other wonderfully well. None of the stuff is cutesy in anyway, just simple designs with bags of soft and subtle style. Many of the cushions have a tiny little animal printed on them in white or yellow, the baby blankets and place mats have some Italian text on them while the bibs have contrasting coloured straps. It’s these little touches and details that make Tulip + i so special. Natalie, the mama in question and the designer, definitely has an eye for beauty. Inspired by life’s little pleasures, her collection evokes a sense of happiness, calm and an overwhelming desire to touch it all! Head over to Tulip + i to see all the goodies and they’re offering 20% off everything till 19th December 2011.
Say No! (to boring baby bed linen)
July 25, 2010
Bored of plain white, pink or blue nursery bedding? We were so we went on a mission to find something more exciting and colourful and here’s what we found:
You may have noticed that we’re quite keen on elephants so naturally we were excited when we found these elephant fleece blankets. They come from Sweden (the blankets, not the elephants) and the range also includes kids bed sheets and cushions. The blankets are 100% cotton, measure 70x90cms and cost £18 at www.scandiliving.com.
Quick brown fox of Dulwich – a quirky name for a shop with quirky, fun, bright bedding. There’s nothing boring and plain here, thats for sure. They’ve got cot sheets, sheets for popular cots like boori and stokke and even sheets for the bugaboo chameleon. The sheets start from around £13 and you’ll find them at quickbrownfoxof dulwich.co.uk
I really struggled to find a cot bumper I liked for ebabee no. 1. I was about to give up when I happened to make a trip to Ikea. In the mayhem that Ikea is I somehow spotted these ‘Lusy’ crochet decorative flowers and grabbed them like a woman possessed. It was suddenly obvious… buy a plain white cot bumper which Ikea do for a tenner, sew these flowers on and voila! I have a cot bumper thats unique, bright and best of all didn’t cost very much at all. Of course I sewed the flowers on the outside so ebabee no .1 couldn’t tear, chew, pull, bite them off! For the grand price tag of £2.99 you get 5 flowers and they even throw in the matching thread. Good ol’ Ikea!
Modern, graphic and fresh are the words that best describe the textiles that come out of Dwell Studio. American born but now widely available here in blighty their baby bed linen will add a dash of modern to any baby’s room. Pictured here are the ‘Owls’ and ‘Paper Dolls’ ranges which are now available at Mothercare. The flat cot sheets cost £19.99 and measure 120x155cms. There are also many other pieces including quilts, cot bumpers and more.
If you’re a minimalist at heart and fear losing your white world to a haze of bright colours when your ebabee arrives, fear not. Keep your cot white with white sheets but team with one of these blankets and cushions from ella & otto. They’re perfect for adding a splash of colour without taking over. The blankets cost £25 and the cushions are £9 for the small and £15 for the big, all at ellaandotto.com. (And before you ask, yes we love the elephant!).
