Emerald green or ruby red… what would you choose? These are the gorgeous new accessories from the Spring Summer 2013 collection by April Showers. French and fabulous, April Showers always, always delights with each new season. Their accessories are feminine and pretty and would delight any little girl. Those sparkly socks would excite my daughter no end and the beaded necklaces with the tassel detail are just so chic, I want them for myself. There’s lots more to the collection including some black and white pieces for babies and some cool shoes and knee high socks for little girls. When I saw this collection at My Little Square, it was the rich, deep colours that first grabbed my attention but I just can’t say whether I like the ruby red or the emerald green more… I adore them both so much! Being Indian, I visit India often as I have loads of family there including my parents. For me, shopping and eating are always at the top of the agenda in India because I love doing both. As far as the shopping is concerned, I never really indulge in expensive stuff but instead it’s always about picking up unusual little trinkets and treasures for the home or to wear. The one thing I never leave India without is a load of bangles, bindi’s and necklaces for my daughter Anya. She absolutely loves her accessories and will often load up her arms with 20-30 bangles at a time! Last time we were there we picked up a gorgeous fabric necklace for her which has now become an absolute favourite of mine and Anya’s. India is a great place to buy colourful and unusual jewellery for kids but since I don’t live there I’m always looking for other avenues too. And my latest finds are these super sweet handmade necklaces, hair clips and hair ties by Homako.
Based in LA, Yoko hand makes all these gorgeous accessories with a definite Japanese vibe to them which isn’t surprising as Yoko is originally from Japan. I love the soft pastel colours which are perfectly complimented with dark stripes and little unexpected details like the pearls and baubles. The necklaces are strung on ribbons finished with little coloured felt dots that are such a pretty addition. Yoko makes jewellery for adults as well but a lot of the kids’ range is designed for mum and daughter to share. Accessories can really make an outfit. I recently bought a dress for my daughter which can only be described as a very plain A-line dress in burgundy. It’s the kind of dress that you would probably pass over on the rail, let alone buy. But it came with a detachable pearl studded collar that really made the dress. Since it’s removable, the collar can be used on any plain top or dress to bring it to life. I think I actually bought the dress just so I could have the collar. This dress just showed me again how the right accessories can completely change an outfit and even add a bit of drama or whimsy to any look. Now I just need to remember to accessorise myself more often! But that aside, I went looking for more accessories for little girls and these were my favourite finds. I love them all but that dramatic feathered hairband is just so cool. Here’s where you’ll find them:

I think accessories on big girls and little girls look great but I don’t do nearly enough accessorising. I quite simply forget! I really want to change this habit and start adding that extra touch to every outfit for my daughter and me. I love the idea of going for muted coloured clothes and then adding hints of bold and bright colour through the accessories. I came across that neon and gold necklace today which I loved and that’s what reminded me of the need for accessories in my life! So I first went looking for some for my daughter and these are 4 that I loved:

I often hear people say that each one of us has a story to tell and I think that’s true. How we tell our own unique story is entirely up to us and I guess I’m starting to tell my story through this blog by revealing little bits and pieces of my life and also through my picks which tells a lot about me. Writing is one way of sharing but there are many other ways like sharing through your own creations. One person who has chosen to do this is Rozalinde Innemee who is the Dutch artist behind Monday’s Milk. She says her designs are her stories and the production is the telling of the stories. There is something so instantly believable and beautiful about her creations and I guess that’s the reason why. There is a part of her in everything she makes and that is what makes her offerings so special.
You can expect to find kids quilts, hair clips, soft toys, fabrics and things for the home. All have a gentle, pure and simple feel to them with a definite feminine touch. I adore the quilts which come in the prettiest of fabrics and I love the animal soft toys too. You won’t find the usual suspects here but instead we’ve got cute rhino’s and an anteater. And today I spotted the adorable bow hair clips which is what reminded me how of much I loved this store and that I hadn’t yet shared it with you. But now you know so visit Monday’s Milk and I hope you love the expression of Rozalinde’s story as much as I do.

I love little girls with long hair even though getting those knots and tangles out can be a huge battle. My daughter is growing her hair and has the sweetest little curls in them but we’re now at a point where those tresses need to be tamed. So I started hunting for some hair accessories and found the sweetest ones over at Hello Shiso. The little crocodiles are too cute and the flower ones are so pretty. These are a few colourful little things for kids that have been on my radar for a while so I thought it was about time I shared them:
1. A cute wooden giraffe ring toss toy by Sweet Whirl. It so reminds me of the fun fairs I’ve visited as a kid as I always had to have a go at the ring toss game and I remember if I won, I’d come away with some giant soft toy. 2. Love these handmade soft clock bracelets for kids. My bambino loves wearing a pretend watch and I’ve never seen any nicer than these by Specks & Keepings.
3. I’m a big fan of Elisabeth Dunker’s store Fine Little Day. This ‘Fine Little World’ poster is one of her latest creations in collaboration with French Illustrator Steffie Broccoli. It’s a bright and bold world map filled with animals, buildings and other things representative of the various countries of the world.
4. How sweet are these tulip adorned pony tail holders for girls by Hello Shiso? I’m loving the colours and the girly – ness of them. 5. I don’t normally get excited about crayons but I really liked these with their bright, graphic wrappers from Pomme NYC. And the best part is they don’t need a sharpener, just keep peeling the layers of paper to reveal more and more colour.

My nearly 3 year old bambino was playing animatedly with a feather the other day. While watching her I started thinking about a post on feathers. There’s something about feathers that makes them special. I don’t know what it is but they’re so soft and lovely to touch. So I went searching for some lovely things made of these tactile objects and here are my top 3 finds:
1. How utterly gorgeous are these feather adorned fairy wings?! Delicate and so feminine, I can’t imagine any little girl not being enamoured of them. They’d make a perfect addition to a dressing up box although once worn, I’m not sure they’d ever be put away. They’re by Atsuyo et Akiko and with Christmas coming up, they’d make the perfect gift too.
2. These full feathered necklaces are a great accessory for slightly older girls. Take a simple dress and elevate it to new levels with these lovely necklaces by Christa Davis.
3. Last but not least is this feathered headband which isn’t just for dressing up days but also just to add a bit of drama to an everyday outfit.
