Girls can be superheroes too!

Anya loves dressing up. Like any 5 year old girl she is very in to the whole Disney princess thing but I’m relieved that she is equally keen to dress up as a pirate or a witch or her latest obsession of being a superhero. That’s why she was delighted when she received this cute bunny superhero t-shirt with attached cape. Of course she wanted to try it out immediately and we thought that it would be even more fun if we went the whole hog – with mask and tights and all.

With the caped t-shirt on and the mask painted, Anya took her superhero role very seriously! Running through the park, jumping off wooden poles and even pretending to fly.

Being a girl superhero, Anya of course had to stop to collect daisies. That’s what I love about these t-shirts by Le Macchinine Design – they’re great for boy or girl and they’re so comfy too. So even though they can be for dressing up, they’re perfect everyday wear too. We got the bunny one but there are cool foxes, lions and owls too. It’s such a sweet and simple idea to attach a cape to a t-shirt and once worn, Anya took on a completely new persona. I love clothes like these that encourage pretend play and allow a kids imagination to fly.

While superheroes always save the day, every once in a while, even they need a helping hand from their daddys!

3 imaginative activity books

Last week, as we were walking through Waterloo station Anya turned to me and said ‘I can see a pigeon riding the escalator’ and then broke out in a fit of giggles and started to create a little story from this thought. Of course there was no pigeon on any escalator but that’s the thing about kids imaginations, there are no bounds and this still amazes me each day. I’m often thinking about how I can feed and develop her imagination and I always find myself turning to books – story books, activity books, drawing books, craft books – the whole lot. On the weekend I decided to look for some fun books for Anya to create, imagine and play with and I found 3 that I loved:

Cute little playthings…

You might be wondering what exactly the picture above is… I wondered the same when I saw it but I knew that I had to find out more. It’s a Princess and the Pea playset. How cute is that? Seven handmade mattresses have been covered in vintage fabrics and topped with a wool felt pea. They all come packaged in a muslin bag with an embroidered quote from the story. Any kid who knows the fairytale will delight in playing with this. This is the creation of 2 mums who were armed with little more than a sewing machine, bags of unwanted wool and fabrics when they decided to start a little boutique called Seven Smooches.

Everything is hand made at Seven Smooches who also make clothes, hats, blankets and other cute little things for kids. But it’s their play things that really got my attention like these adorable finger puppets each of which come with a little accessory. It’s the imagination and the level of detail that go in to their creations that really make them special. Teddy bears picnic!

How adorable are these teddy bears? They’re made right here in London by Mia who is a mama of 2 with a huge imagination. Each hand made teddy comes with a little set of it’s very own and very cute belongings. Most come with sweet little dresses and coats, a picnic set including little crochet food, quilts and pillows, moses baskets or beds and even a family photo album. Could these sets get any sweeter?!

Each teddy bear is beautifully dressed complete with a coat and sometimes a complimentary scarf and handbag too. These little sets would be great for hours of imaginative play. All the bears have bags of personality so I’m sure you can make-up lots of creative stories about each one’s life.

Sometimes I am just wowed by the creativity of mama’s that I stumble across and this is definitely one of those times. The bears and their accessories look like they’ve been made with lots of love, imagination and they’re super stylish too. Make your own menagerie

I’m a big fan of Alice Melvin and her paper goods. A while ago, I brought you her fantastic Cut Out and Make Bird Mobile. Today I chanced upon the Cut Out and Make Menagerie and just had to share. You’ve got the whole lot in this menagerie from the birds and bees to the big beasts. There’s a total of 12 animals all made out of heavy paper, to cut out and make but the one that stole my heart was the elephant… it’s so pretty in all it’s Indian glory! And once made, there’ll be hours of fun playing zoo. To get Alice Melvin’s Cut Out and Make Menagerie visit the Tate Gallery Shop where it costs £7.50 plus £3.60 delivery.

A tea set so charming!

I’ve been on a mission to find a tea set for ebabee no.1. She seems to have developed a penchant for pouring tea and sipping it in her little pretend world. So, I began the search and soon hit the (tea set) jackpot when i found this stunner by Vilac. This Nathalie Tea party set has got bags of charm and is just so pretty in a kitschy-cool way. I’m loving the colours, the flowers, the retro vibe and even the little carry case it comes in. So girly, so sweet. Made of metal, it reminds me of the way toys used to be… no plastic in sight, just the way I like it. The Vilac Nathalie Tea Party Set costs £25.43 from Amazon and delivery’s free. I’m off to order mine and am pleased as punch to say tea set mission: accomplished!

Quirky 3D Posters: Wall art or play art?

Today I discovered a shop called Zoe de Las Cases. French, fun and quirky-licious stuff is what you can expect here. Of all on offer, it was these 3D posters that caught my eye in a big way. You can get a shop, a kitchen or a laundry room to make up yourself. Then, put them up and let the imaginative play begin or just admire them as fabby wall art. What a cool idea. And in the looks department, the colours, the backgrounds, the details are all fantastic. The laundry one even has a little wall cupboard to store all your detergents!
