A few years ago I bought a beautiful dull gold top. From the minute I first wore it, Anya insisted she had to have the same. She was only 3 years old. Since then, she has often wanted us to wear matching clothes when we go out together. Her sweet, sweet sentiment of wanting to be like her mama gives me a warm and happy feeling all over. While I adore this sentiment, I can’t do full on matching mama and daughter style. Can you? I can do complementary style yes, but matching head to toe, no. So recently, when Pisamonas offered to send us both a pair of shoes, I thought this was the perfect opportunity for some similar mama and daughter style. Both Anya and I opted for ballet pumps – she chose the sparkly pink ones while I opted for the black leather ballet pumps.
I’ve been waiting patiently for the British Summer to arrive (ok not so patiently) but it seems to be coming finally! And someone has been tormenting me for a pair of sandals. I thought this kind of torment only started when they were 16, not six! But I’d much rather Anya ask me for something like sandals that she really wants and will use rather than for something she wants simply because her friends have it. I’ve had my eye on a pair that I spotted months ago but have been waiting for the right weather. Now that it’s here I’m ordering!
The sandals I’ve been coveting are the Spanish Avarcas by Pisamonas – they are so gorgeous! Anya has already had a pair of Pisamonas shoes before and they have been worn a fair amount and still look great. So I know the sandals will be just as good and they are so reasonably priced that I can even splurge on two pairs – once you see the colours you’ll know why it’s hard to choose just one. Besides those sandals they have loads more styles and another that caught my eye is a very pretty pair of flip-flop style sandals in similar colours as the Avarcas but with a bit of gold trim. I tend to favour European shoes for Anya because I find that they fit her narrow feet better and they offer such fun styles too. Ever since Anya started walking, we’ve had trouble buying shoes. Her feet are very narrow which has meant regular high-street shoes have never worked for her. Instead I have had to seek out European shoes which for some reason are narrower than British shoes (I wonder why). We all know that getting a good fit with shoes is so important especially for growing feet; I’ve even been told that getting well fitted shoes for a child is as important as looking after their teeth. Because of this I never compromised on what I bought her even though it often meant spending more than I wanted to.
Recently I discovered Pisamonas shoes from Spain and I was keen to try them out as they are European shoes that are very affordable too. They generously sent me this cute pair of brogues that I love not only because you can wear them with anything – skirts, jeans, dresses – but also because they fit really well. These shoes come in a range of colours but I really like the neutral tones that can be paired with fun socks like these polka dotted ones. Anya’s also worn these shoes with the brightest pink socks and they look really cool. I’ve been putting off teaching her to tie her laces which I knew I needed to do sooner rather than later so these shoes have come in really hand for that too! She is quite happy to practice away on them.

Are you a bag lady or a shoe lady? I’m firmly in the shoe camp, maybe even a little bit obsessed with shoes. And now having a child, this obsession is trickling in to kids shoes too. Not good. But then it’s hard to resist when I find shoes like these Zuzii ones. Their baby shoes are the cutest and their sandals are so beautiful, I wish they made adult sizes too. I love the simplicity of the sandals with their natural leather and unfussy looks. And of all the soft suede baby shoes, I think the pink polka dotted ones are just adorable. They also make cool oxfords for boys, some in plain colours while others have stripes or polka dots. Discovering kids shoes like these ones by Zuzii does nothing but make me want to buy even more shoes!
I think my heart skipped a beat when I saw this new Spring Summer 2013 collection from Les Zigouis. How gorgeous are the clothes sets and those soft leather sandals? Everything here is handmade making it even more special. Barbara Berrada makes all the clothes while all the shoes have been made by Pieni for Les Zigouis. Those pale blue-grey sandals at the top are just to die for! And the mustard and navy blue ensemble is just too cute. Les Zigouis always offers us something very special and unique and this new collection is just that.
My country obsession of the moment is Argentina. I’ve wanted to visit for as long as I can remember and I’m finally going to Buenos Aires in January (yaay!). To say I’m excited would be a huge understatement. Of course I’m madly researching places to see, things to do and most importantly where to shop and eat. It’s through this research I’ve discovered that not only does the food promise to be an absolute treat but the shopping too sounds amazing as there is some fabulous design coming out of Argentina for both big and little people. One of my favourite Argentinian discoveries for kids has been these adorable crochet toys. But now I’ve got another favourite… the wonderful Fanny & Alexander.
Fanny & Alexander is born out of the notion of good old fashioned play. They believe that today there are too many battery operated toys, video games and other toys that don’t encourage the child to think for themselves. So Fanny & Alexander wanted to go back to basics, to toys that encourage a child to be creative, to imagine, to make things up. And that’s exactly what they’ve done by creating beautiful wooden toys, cute art and stationery, knitted clothes and leather shoes. Their design is simple, minimal even but with plenty of warmth and lots of beauty. They’ve chosen a very simple colour palette of natural wood, rusts and greys which just adds to the aesthetic appeal and the warmth. Just look at those leather ballet shoes… how gorgeous are they?! And those Llama’s eating their pyjamas… wonderful! Luckily, they ship internationally so you don’t have to go to Argentina to get these goodies but since I am going, I will definitely be knocking on Fanny & Alexander‘s door.
While browsing svpply, i spotted these shoes and fell in love. How cool are they? These neon toed shoes are from Namibia where each shoe is hand made by a group of 8 gentlemen that turn out just 20 pairs each day. The shoes are made of kudu leather which is leather from a very large antelope like animal native to Namibia. Schier shoes also make similar ones for grown-ups… I’m loving the neon toed ones for the adults too. If you’re in a matching sort of mood you could get one each for every member of you family! We’re still happily enjoying some scorchio weather here in London and for me one of the biggest benefits of summer is wearing sandals. Open-toed shoes are so much better for your feet and I love, love wearing all manner of sandals and flip flops. Of course, I also love putting my daughter in teeny-tiny kids sandals too.
