cactus wallapper

Have you noticed the cool cactus home decor trend?  I don’t mean just the actual cactus plants, although they are pretty amazing too and a great option, if like me, you aren’t green fingered.  For now I mean the cool cactus prints popping up for all kinds of home decor stuff.  The almost sculptural shape of cacti lends itself so well to all kinds of things for the home.  When I finish decorating my home, I know I’m going to be adding a few cactus home decor touches and definitely some real cactus which make stylish indoor plants.

black and white room decorations

Ever since I can remember I’ve been drawn to minimal, simple, monochrome style.  When Anya was born and someone wanted to gift me a blanket for her, they asked what colour I wanted expecting a reply like pink or yellow.  My reply was off white or black and white.  My mum was horrified!  Horrified that I was subjecting my child to a colourless life!  But you know what – black, white and neutral tones can be so stunning in a kids room just like these decorations show us.  I can’t help but be drawn to things like that cat poster and that gorgeously simple pear pillow.  They can always be mixed with pops of colour so you can add as little or as much brightness as you like.  I won’t be giving up my black and white obsession any time soon so I’ve found some gorgeous black and white kids room decorations to share with you:

1.  grid pear pillow | 2. knitted bunny blanket | 3. girl doll cushion | 4. ball string lights | 5. cat poster | 6. whale chalkboard

disney princess cushions

Are your little girls crazy about the Disney princesses and characters?  Anya isn’t obsessed with them (thankfully!) although she does like some of the characters – I don’t know too many little girls who don’t.  But I am not a fan of all those plastic dolls and the synthetic, shiny clothes that come along with them.  If you feel the same way then you’ll love these adorable alternatives that I recently came across.  These Disney inspired princess cushions are colourful and so cute.  They’re a great doll substitute and also double up as sweet little decorations when not being played with.  The range isn’t very big at the moment but I’m hoping it will grow soon.  So next time I get asked for a fairytale princess doll, I shall be opting for one of these no-plastic, natural ones.

"tooth fairy pillow UK"

A couple of weeks ago Anya lost her first tooth.  I cried.  I’m not normally emotional and have always enjoyed watching her grow up.  When the baby years passed and she turned in to a toddler, I felt nothing but joy and delight in seeing her grow and develop.  But this milestone was different.  This milestone felt like my baby was no longer a baby and was really growing up (sob).  Where have these five years gone?

"tooth fairy pillow UK"

I was soon distracted by Anya’s huge excitement right from the moment she realised she had a wobbly tooth.  The tooth fairy is something she has desperately been waiting for and wishing everyday that she would lose a tooth for over a year.  More than Santa, the tooth fairy has totally captured her imagination.  So that night, along with the tooth fairy pillow loaded with cash and tucked under her pillow, I sprinkled some glitter around her bed.  That moment of waking up and discovering the tooth had gone from the pillow and finding some money there instead was priceless – the look on her face was pure delight and amazement.  She was jumping up and down and shouting ‘the tooth fairy came, the tooth fairy really came’.  And the bonus was finding this adorable golden tooth pillow which she loves.  Anya may be growing up but she’s still a child full of wonder and imagination and that is something I hope will stay with her for a long time no matter how old she is.

To celebrate this big milestone I wanted to do something special.  So I partnered with Oeuf NYC to give one lucky reader the chance to win this adorable handmade golden tooth fairy pillow.  Oeuf kindly sent one for Anya and there’s one for one of you too.  The tooth is made of soft baby alpaca wool and has a little pocket at the back to put money in.  Anya loves her tooth and has been sleeping with it under her pillow every night since she got it.  And I have to agree – it’s so sweet.  Oeuf’s tooth fairy pillow is the original and the best and so it had to be this one.  Have your kids lost a tooth yet?  How did you feel with the first one?

"6 of the best black and white cushions for kids"

A couple of months ago I rounded up some of the best kids cushions around and many of my readers really enjoyed it so I thought I would do another round-up.  Today though it’s about monochrome black and white cushions.  I’m a big fan of cushions and believe you can never have too many.  I love the idea of using a whole lot of black and white cushions in a kids room but if you like colour too, you can of course mix it up.  Here are 6 black and white cushions that I’m loving at the moment:

1. sleepy head cushion | 2. polar bear cushion | 3.  smiley cloud cushion | 4.  miffy cushion | 5.  panda bear cushions | 6. mountain range cushion

Sweet dreams…

"cloud pillows for kids"Whoever sleeps on these goodnight pillows is going to have the sweetest dreams, don’t you think?  The pillows look so peaceful with their soft colours and doze-y expressions.  I’m loving this (sleepy) sweetness from Colette Bream.

Love for liberty…

"liberty print baby bed linen"

When I was a kid I remember my mum getting my brother and me an Indian liberty print quilt each.  We both got so attached to our quilts that we would take them with us everywhere we traveled.  I’m sure that hadn’t been part of my mothers plan as taking two bulky quilts everywhere is far from ideal but we wouldn’t be parted from our beloved quilts.  When my quilt had to be washed my mum always made sure it was dried within the day as sleeping without it wasn’t an option (thanks mum!).  I don’t know what it was about the quilt that made me so attached to it… the tiny floral print, the muted colours of pink and mint green, the softness of the fabric or was it just a comforter of sorts?  Even though at the time I had no clue what a Liberty print was, I now know that is my earliest memory of owning something in this wonderful fabric.

"liberty print kids bedlinen"

Since then of course I have bought several Liberty print things and have a real love for the fabrics so it’s no wonder that I was drawn to this new collection of bed linen, pillows and soft bean bag type seats for kids.  The collection has been created by Cam Cam especially for the lovely boutique Mimi’s Circus.  While the entire collection is made using liberty print fabrics, it’s the little neon cloud detail that adds that extra special touch.  I’m not normally a fan of bean bags but I think my favourite part of this collection is those bean bag type seats.  It’s a collection that will appeal to both kids and adults and that always gets my vote.

"clown soft toys and pillows"

The circus is in town!  This new collection of joyful circus toys and pillows is the creation of super talented mama, Anabel.  In the collection you’ll find a range of clowns, a circus tent, some circus animals and my favourite, the ringmaster pictured on the left.  All the toys can double up as pillows… I’m thinking super sweet sleeping companions for any little kid.  Made from baby alpaca wool, bamboo and cotton they are hand knitted in Bolivia so not only are the goodies very cute, they’re environmentally friendly too.  Anabel goes a step further by employing women artisans in Bolivia who wouldn’t otherwise have had the chance of earning.  These toys are toys with a conscience, making them even more desirable.  In addition to the new circus collection, Anabel makes lovely baby alpaca wool clothes and the most gorgeous crochet and knit necklaces for little girls.  Visit Fournier to see the entire collection.

"cushions and pillows for kids"

I’m a big fan of having lots and lots of cushions strewn around the living room and bedroom.  I’ve been looking to do the same for the bambino’s bedroom and have been on the hunt for some cool kids cushions.  I haven’t decided on my favourite yet but I’ve found 5 that I love:

1.  Donna Wilson is pure British and pure cool.  I love this tree cushion for it’s quirkiness and unique style.

2.  This can only be described as the ‘apple’ of my eye (sorry)!!  By Oeuf NYC, this apple cushion looks good enough to eat.

3.  French and fabulous is this sweet bow cushion by Le Petite Luce and it’s from Little Fashion Gallery

4.  There are loads of lovely cloud cushions around but this one by Blabla Kids tops my list.  I just adore the cute little bird detail.

5.  Ever since I discovered Colette Bream I was smitten by her goodies and this house shaped cushion is a part of her wonderful collection.

P.S. Have you entered our giveaway where you can win $100 voucher?
