"kast van een huis cabinets"

Oh. My. God.  I nearly busted something when I spotted these Amsterdam Cabinets. Stun-ning!  Which mama wouldn’t like to get her hands on these oh so uber-amazing wardrobes for the bambino’s room?  I can’t think of many.  Created by a Dutch mama who wasn’t happy with the kiddy furniture on offer, she made her own.  Just the kind of mama designer we heart around here.  She wanted to design something that had timeless style and would bring a smile to your face.  And boy, did she succeed!

The Amsterdam cabinets come in 11 different colours ranging from the boldest and brightest to the lightest and you can choose hanging rail and shelves or just shelves.  Having just one would look pretty darn cool but to get the complete ‘Amsterdam houses in a row look’ you’ll need to stretch to around 3 (and believe me there will be stretching involved!).  The Amsterdam Cabinets are made by the Dutch mama’s company called Kast Van Een Huis and are offered with 3 different Gable types and in 4 different sizes.  They’re available in the UK from Bobo Kids and cost from around €695 each.  Cheap they’re not, but chic they are.  If like me, your budget doesn’t stretch to them, then weep not, there’s always admiring from afar (ok weep!).

"caravan crib"

Lust.  That’s where I’m at today.  These stunning coloured cots by Kalon Studios are the object of my lust.  I’m staring wantingly at all the sumptuous colours on offer.  I’m loving the bold straight lines contrasted with the dainty curved feet and the classic shape given a contemporary twist with the coloured rails.  What beauties!  Called Caravan Cribs, they’re made by a US-German team who pride themselves on sustainability and eco-friendliness.  They come in sunny yellow, classic black, peachy pink, aqua blue and lime green. The Caravan Cribs converts to junior beds, cost $895 each and shipping to the UK costs $110. At that price, these beauties will have to remain objects of desire!

"brio grow highchair"

I’m forever tracking down cool design to bring you.  I search far, wide and deep… from the USA to Japan and back.  But today my inspiration was in front of me: the brio grow highchair.  It’s cool, contemporary looks and sleek modern design got me badly hooked when I was highchair hunting some 2 years ago.  I had to have it. Even a whole 2 years later, I haven’t yet experienced highchair envy (yay!).  And it’s not just a pretty face.  The brio highchair is comfortable, safe, easy to assemble and easy to clean.  Add this to it’s high style and you’ve got another nursery great* from the fantabulous Brio.  It comes in black, white and red and goes from 6 months to 7 years.  When the bambino comes of age, all you do is remove the safety rail and voila!  The brio grow highchair isn’t the cheapest but it is lovely!

*The other Brio nursery great I speak of is none other than the Brio Sleep cotbed. Click to check it out.

If stylish highchairs are your thing too then have a look at the Alfons highchair by Sirch. It’s another beauty!

"Eames elephant chair"

Elephants… what makes them so, so appealing to kids and adults alike?  Don’t know, but I do know that I’m crazy about them.  So naturally when I spotted this elephant chair /toy I fell in lust, big time.  Made by Vitra, a Swiss furniture company, this hugely adorable elephant was originally designed in 1945 but wasn’t available to buy.  Thanks to the design loving shopping gods out there (whom I regularly pray to), you can now buy it… hooray!  It comes in a range of divinely delicious colours, can be used indoors and out and is just so cool.  Place it with pride in your kiddies room or out in the garden if you want to make the neighbours green.  Or even in the living room to add a dash of quirk to your adult space, that is if  you’ve got any adult space left.  Called the Eames Elephant Chair, I’ve found it on sale for £112 with free delivery (normally £139 plus delivery).  It measures about 415mm high x 410mm wide and 785mm long.  Big enough to make it’s presence felt but not so big as to be the elephant in the room!!

"mini mello kids stool"

Hello, Mini Mello… I’m liking what I see!  Colourtastic, cool and eco-friendly mini stools by Ekobo.  Made from bamboo and coated in glossy, shiny lacquer in the boldest colours, the Mini Mello comes in lime green, tomato red, hot pink, shiny black and more.  And when you fancy a change, just turn it over and you’ve got a mini storage bowl.  The Mini Mello costs £48 with free delivery and will be back in stock from 5th January 2011.  It measures 34 cms in diameter and it’s 12 cms high… small in size but it holds up to a whopping 90kgs of weight.  That means mama’s and daddy’s can sit on it too, so long as the bum fits!

P.S. Checkout ebabee, the little baby auction site.

"vintage childrens chair"

"vintage high chair"

When I saw these vintage childrens chairs on Minor Details’ blog, I had to share.  I can’t tell you too much as the sites in French, but I can tell you they have an absolutely to die for collection of vintage kids chairs.  The two I’m lusting after the most are the red vintage highchair and the blue bench.  I’m also loving the little yellow chair which reminds me of one I had as a kid and then there’s the wooden one with the red and yellow slats, which on closer inspection is actually a vintage potty chair.  As for the prices they start from about €50 and go upwards but there are very many to be had for under €100.  At the moment, they’re only available in France but the international sites coming soon so you can get your hands on them.  If vintage kids furniture floats your boat then a visit to Edmond is a must.

"Brio Sleep Cotbed"

I wanted to get a quick post in about these divine cots from Brio.  The Brio Sleep Cotbed, like much of what Brio offer, is hot property!  But sadly they’re not going to be around for much longer.  So think of this as a farewell note to a nursery great!  If you’re super quick, you can probably just about grab one.

The Brio Sleep Cotbed is lovely and roomy.  It measures 140cms x 70cms and starts life as a cot with 3 adjustable positions and eventually when your kiddo is ready, remove all the sides and you’ve got a junior bed.  But there are other combos you can create in between.  We’ve got one and I love it for it’s smooth, sleek lines, the curved ends, the glossy finish and the lovely colours.  Choose from sunny yellow or raspberry red.  The Brio Sleep Cotbed’ll last a good 5-6 years and costs £249 with free delivery from the lovely Lula Sapphire.  It’s about the only place with any left.  Bye, bye Brio Sleep – we’ll miss you!

UPDATE on 21.04.2011: Brio Sleep cot bed sold out at Lula Sapphire. You can try Funktionalley but they’re a lot more expensive on there.

For some more lovely coloured cots check out Kalon Studios Caravan Crib if you’re after a splurge. or if you’re looking for a style steal then have a look at the Ikea Somnat cots.

Cardboard cot

August 16, 2010

baby nursery cardboard cotCalling all eco mums… a cot made from recyclable cardboard.  I like the white one which you can customise with stickers, drawings, paint it or whatever takes your fancy.  Its made by Kids Gallery and they donate 5% of the price to Unicef.  I haven’t tried it but am seriously tempted… if ever there is an ebabee no.2.  They say that the cot is the same height as an adult bed and measures 75 x 56 x 62 cms.  It costs about £66 with the mattress and is available form the little fashion gallery .

I’ve just spotted these and had to share.  They’re the new Somnat cots from ikea available in blue, a limey green and pink.  I do love coloured cots and these are no exception. They’re sure to liven up any baby nursery, and the best part, wait for it… they’re just £49.  They have 2 sleep positions, the mattress isn’t included and so far it’s only available in store, not online.  Talk about style on a budget… it doesn’t get much better than this!
