At Les Petits Bohemes you’ll find one off vintage furniture for kids including chairs and cots and lots of storage furniture. When I looked at my email the other day I had a message from ‘Happy Industries’. The name caught my attention and I checked it out. I was so excited to discover fabulous vintage furniture for children. They mainly have vintage school desks and vintage kids chairs on offer but there are lots to choose from. I love the idea of mixing in a vintage piece or two with modern furniture and with these you’ll be able to do just that. There are many brightly coloured pieces in yellows and reds but also natural wood ones too. The furniture designed by Carlos is fun and playful as well as being practical. Carlos told me he was one of 5 kids and so there was lots of play in his home. He and his 4 sisters would create games out of any objects they could get their hands on… ” My father was a topographer and with his telescopic tripod and a blanket we made a wonderful tepee”. It’s from such memories and happy times that Carlos gets his inspiration. His amazing sense of colour comes from a desire to be contemporary and current as Carlos explains “I pay attention to colour schemes in the fashion industry too”. Carlos’ formula of mixing vibrant colours with lots of fun makes for nursery furniture so contemporary, cool and happy. When I spotted this mini vintage play school table and chairs I could’ve cartwheeled my way to New York… I wanted it so bad! It’s made by Restoration Hardware, a hot US store that sadly hasn’t graced our European shores. This vintage kids school table has a strong industrial vibe which only adds to it’s drool factor. I can see it working a treat especially in a large open play space. Kids coat hooks or coat pegs, not something I normally give much thought to. They’re useful, they’re practical and damn handy, especially in kiddy rooms. Problem is, they can be a bit dull… OK, a lot dull. Or at least that’s what I thought until I spotted these 3 hooks; they’re quirky, they’re cool, they’re fun and they’re anything but dull. The great Danes have done it again! This time in the guise of a children’s chair with looks so cool. The Danish seem to have an innate sense of design. Everything they touch turns in to an object of beauty. And that’s exactly what Oficina Creativa have done with this Mini Acapulco chair for kids. They describe themselves as ‘young, dynamic and experimental’ and I think they’re spot on. They’ve got strong ties with Mexico which is how this chair gets it name and I suspect, some of it’s design influences too. But whatever the influence, it’s working… this chair is hot! Just chuck a contrasting coloured cushion on and it will add a dash of style to any kids space. The Acapulco mini chair comes is turquoise, yellow and black and is available from Nest for £147 with shipping at £1 to the UK. They ship internationally too.
What a fun-tastic piece of play furniture! Any kid lucky enough to have this adorning their play space, can you please invite me round, pretty please? I spotted this over at Kickcan and Konkers, a blog written by a mama with a keen eye for beautiful things… my kinda mama. I loved it so much, I just had to share. Made in Poland, this cool toy, seat, animal (call it what you will) will take your kidlet’s room from play ground to play heaven. And it’s not just the fun factor I’m adoring, but it’s a real looker too. To get your hands on this, you’ll need to head to Mukaki but you’ll need to contact them for prices and details as there isn’t too much info on the site. Go have a look and prepare to be in want!
Vintage baby furniture is oh so charming. And none more so than this vintage inspired cot on wheels. By the French Laurette Deco, this cot has mountains of style and just oozes charm. And the colours… soft yet impactful, muted yet bold and simply beautiful. Luckily I’m not in the cot market cos choosing one would be just too hard. But whichever one tickles your fancy, you just can’t go wrong. And being a cot on wheels, it’s rather handy to move your bambino around, especially in the super early (sleepless) days and nights. These tubs are normally used for gardening and DIY but I love them as toy storage buckets. They come in various sizes so you can get one of each. And these storage buckets definitely won’t break the bank. Cool style that doesn’t cost the earth definitely has my vote. You can get these in loads of DIY stores but I found them at Millbry Hill and they cost from £3.99 – £6.75, depending on size and delivery’s from £2.50.
5. Crochet pouffe / stool
Crochet excites me every time. I love anything crocheted. And this stool’s right up there with the crochet greats! It’s simple, it’s stylish and would look fabulouso in a kiddy’s room. The best bit: the cover’s removable and machine washable so it’s practical too. It’s 35cms wide x 25cms high, costs $53 plus $20 shipping and you can get it from La Casa De Coto on Etsy.
6. Marimekko fabric wall art
I’m a huge fan of the Finnish Marimekko. They make the most delicious things for the home and kids. Amongst their lovelies is this large fabric wall hanging. The pale turquoise against the red and yellow just gives it the wow factor. And of course the 3 animals graphics are fab too.
