Seriously stunning modern kids furniture

In the past I’ve found some fabulous vintage furniture for kids but I haven’t had quite as much luck with the modern stuff. Today I remembered a range of beautiful modern kids furniture that I had come across a while ago. I’ve actually seen some of these pieces in a shop and they are even more beautiful than in the pictures. This is the kind of eye-candy furniture that you’ll want in full view in your home, rather than tucked away in some obscure corner.

Made in Germany by Sirch, all the pieces are practical without being boring or bland in anyway. I love the bright green and red felt against the natural wood and I love the simple, elegant, unfussy shape of this bench that is perfect for playing or reading.

This desk and chair combo has to be my favourite of the entire collection. This is the piece I’ve seen in a shop and even my husband did a double take! The design is minimal but stunning… the soft curves with the straight lines, the pale wood with the bold felt, the complimentary shapes of the chair and the desk come together to create a piece of beauty. Cool knitted cabinets

I am loving these knitted cabinets… how cool are they?! And they not only look amazing but they’re portable too. They can work in any kiddy or adult space but I’m especially loving it for a baby and toddler room. The cabinet can be placed on the legs or on the floor so making it accessible for small hands too. You can store all manner of things from toys to books to clothes for the bambino. I’m picturing a rustic, bohemian chic nursery with lots of vintage touches and one of these cabinets to finish off the look.

An enchanting forest

Ever since I spotted this wallpaper in Milk Magazine, I have been besotted with it. The dark, enchanting forest theme is so striking, so bold, so impactful. This ‘Foret Noire’ wallpaper is by Nathalie Lete, a Parisian artist whose creations are inspired by her travels, vintage toys and old engravings of animals an flowers. Nathalie creates kids books, toys, ceramics and also one off pieces all of which are colourful, poetic and sometimes almost bordering on strange but always in a very creative way. This forest wallpaper would make a magnificent feature wall in a kids room but I think it would look very cool in a nursery too.

And as for the lovely vintage inspired kids Tica chair in the picture, I found it over a Laurette Deco and I fell for it. I thought the red works so well against the black wallpaper and the style of chair compliments the wallpaper too so I wanted to feature it. Vintage furniture love

I’ve seriously got the vintage bug this week. I’m feeling copious amounts of love for everything vintage. So I decided to visit one of my favourite vintage shops and I found some fabulous vintage furniture for kids. The first thing I spotted was the cot which I was smitten by. And then there were more lovelies like the kids desk and metal bed. Les Petits Bohemes is one of the best vintage spots I’ve found and every time I visit, there is something new for me to get obsessed by. Their collections are eclectic and unique… and in their words, it’s like visiting a crazy flea market but one you just can’t get enough of. Check out Les Petits Bohemes and prepare to be hooked! Most of their pieces are one of a kind so when they’re gone, they’re gone!

Colour love: Mint green

Spring is here and I can’t see beyond mint green at the moment. It’s in the shops, it’s in the magazines and it’s on my mind. It’s such a fresh and vibrant colour and I’m absolutely going crazy for it. So I went on the hunt for some mint green lovelies for the kids and here’s what I found:

1. An old wardrobe given a new lease of life by painting it mint green. Perfect for any kids room, I found this over at style-files.

2. A cute little summer dress with a high seas print by Winter Water Factory.

3. I love the idea of having a single wooden letter on display in a nursery and I love this lower case ‘a’ by Old New Again.

4. Gorgeous little baby ballet shoes by Baby Bloch. You can get these at Bohemia Design.

5. Beautiful mint green and gold wallpaper adorned with colourful humming birds, perfect for kids or adults too. It’s called Grove Garden Wallpaper and it’s from Fabrics & Papers.

6. A sweet little elephant bowl made of stoneware clay and its from A. Speer Ceramic Studio.

7. I just want to eat these mint green cake pops now! The photo is from Fern Lee photography where you’ll also find instructions on how to make these delicious looking treats.

8. An adorable little hand made bunny rabbit wearing mint green and polka dots by Timo Handmade.

9. Last is this lovely, cosy looking quilt with a turtle print on one side and stripes on the other. This one is by Moo Chic Baby.

Nursery style: Natural wood with pale blue

I love natural wood for a nursery but I think it’s best to compliment wood with a hint of colour. With that in mind I thought it would be fun to put together a few nursery decor items with a big dose of natural wood and an accent colour. I chose pale blue as the accent colour as I think it works well with the wood and it’s great for boy or girl but of course you can choose many other colours that’ll work for both. I do love the softness of the blue against the solidness of the wood and I think the overall effect is quite cool and calming. Here’s more details on all the stuff I chose:

Vintage hot spot: Numero 74

I love a good vintage shop for kids and when I discovered the French Numero 74 I was smitten. They have some fabulous vintage toys like typewriters, cars and weighing scales, they also have some cool vintage chairs and desks for kids. Add to this their handmade bedding and cushions and the store is definitely one to check out. Their selection isn’t huge but I like that because they’re not trying to sell anything and everything vintage, just carefully chosen pieces all of which are desirable. I’m loving the red retro rocking chair and the gold typewriter and I also love their crochet blankets and kids bed sets. All the pieces are sourced from across Europe and USA and are from around the 1900’s to 1970’s and most are kept in their original condition to maintain their authenticity. A magical moon shaped crib

I’m loving this fabulous and French moon shaped crib by Creme Anglaise. I love that it’s made of natural wood and the star shaped cutouts are a fantastic little touch. There’s almost a magical quality to this crib and it’s certainly very unusual too. Any baby who gets to sleep in one of these will be one lucky babe! Colour love: Blue

If you’re a regular here, you’ll know that I’m not a blue for boy and pink for girl type of mama. Blue can be just as much for girls as it can be for boys. So with that in mind, I’ve found some lovely blue nursery decorations, toys and clothes some for boys, some for girls but mostly things that are for both.

Caroline Gomez: Graceful furniture for big and small

I was browsing the lovely store that is Kids Love Design when some elegant furniture in blond wood caught my eye. I looked more closely and found a beautiful collection of not just large furniture but little things for the home too. Designed and created by Caroline Gomez of France, each of the natural wood pieces are so simple and so graceful. There’s even an indoor swing in the collection… which kid (big or small) wouldn’t want a swing at home? If you’re lucky enough to have the space, then why not. I also love the tent where you can go pretend camping every night and then there are the lovely mountain shaped platters on which to eat your snacks. Also on offer are some fabulous 2 legged bedside and console style tables which would work equally well in a kids room or an adults.
