"nursery and kids room furniture"

Last Friday I wrote about Fanny & Alexander, a wonderful store from Buenos Aires.  In that post I mentioned that I am visiting Argentina in January (so excited!).  I then got a lovely comment from one of my Argentinian readers and we began exchanging emails.  Sadly I won’t be able to meet her as I am not visiting the city she lives in but it’s been fun chatting to her.  That is one of my absolute favourite parts of writing this blog – hearing from you, my readers.  I have had contact with many people from across the globe because of this blog and I hope to meet some of them one day.  It was this Argentinian reader who told me about Krethaus and I was besotted.  Thank you Soledad for sharing this lovely store.

Krethaus are also from Buenos Aires and make furniture, cushions, bedding and rugs for kids and babies.  Their designs are simple with clean lines and muted colours.  I’m totally loving all those cushions… how cute is the red mustache one?  And that kids bed?  I love the simple yet dramatic headboard and the natural wood.  Using lots of natural materials throughout their creations all of Krethaus’ furniture is handmade making it even more special.  They describe their designs as having a ‘quiet elegance’ and I have to agree.  I am really loving discovering all these gorgeous stores from Buenos Aires and I shall be adding Krethaus to my list of places to visit when I am there.  I don’t think Krethaus ship internationally yet but you could always drop them a line and I’m sure they’ll help.

P.S. Have you entered out Halloween giveaway?

A vintage dream…

"vintage baby crib"

I’m always dreaming of how I’ll decorate the next house we move to.  We have no plans to move right now but that doesn’t stop me.  My most frequent daydream is about my daughters room.  I change my mind daily about which pieces of furniture I want for her room, but I never change my mind about the style of decor.  It’s going to be vintage; possibly vintage with modern accents but mostly old.  And today I’ve found a shop where I’m lusting after all their vintage furniture.  From their school desks, to kids chairs and even their vintage cribs {though I don’t have a tiny baby}, I want it all.  I mean how gorgeous is that pink crib?

And then there’s this minty green child’s desk and chair set… luckily it’s sold otherwise I might have been on my way to France to buy it!  L’Atelier du petit parc really do find some exquisite pieces but since they’re all one off’s they get sold quite quickly.  They do keep getting new pieces so it’s a question of checking back regularly.  Visit their shop to see all that’s currently available while I go off to daydream some more.

Play, sleep, dream…

"wooden toddler bed"

What happens when 2 talented architects marry and have kids?  They design their own kids furniture of course!  That is exactly what Dutch couple Agata and Arek did.  Beds are the biggest piece of furniture in most rooms and while they need to be functional, the couple felt they should also encourage play and imagination and have good looks.  So they designed beds for their 2 boys but got so much interest in them that they started making them to sell.  The result is 2 modern kids beds that are fun, stylish, safe and very cool!  The 2 beds work together or can be used separately too.

"wooden kids bunk bed"

The bunk bed is so much more than just a bed.  I see the space under it as a play house, a hiding place or a place to display your child’s favourtie toys.  Or you can park the toddler bed underneath in many different angles.  I’m loving their contemporary looks, their fun factor and their sleek design.  Agata and Arek describe the beds as ‘design to play’ and that’s just what these beds are.  The collection called Rafa Kids launched just this year and I look forward to seeing what else this talented couple come up with.

"kids bamboo desk"

This week’s picks for mama & baby… let mama decorate her table with these colour dipped wooden salad bowls while baby gets creative at this colour trimmed bamboo desk

"vintage kids room inspiration"

I have a huge soft spot for vintage goodies especially when they’re as unique as these offerings.  As you may know, I’m a big fan of the poetic French kids vintage store called Les Petit Bohemes which I’ve featured before and now I’ve discovered a second similar store called Desaccord.  The two stores are definitely connected but have different offerings and today I want to share the wonderful world of Desaccord… a world filled with whimsy and quirk, one that is unique and original and full of vintage treasures for kids.  Pictured above is a kids space using furniture and toys from Desaccord and what a wonderful room it is.

"French vintage furniture kids"

Those industrial sofa benches, that crochet light, those quirky circus animals, that vintage dolls pram… what’s not to love?!  There is not a piece in this magical shop that I don’t wish to own.  I really don’t know where they find this stuff but what I do know is that each and every piece is a one off and so unusual.  Desaccord is very much on my list of the most covetable vintage shops ever.

"crochet stools crochet cradle"

There is something so exquisite and gorgeous about crochet.  It’s a skill I’ve always wanted to learn and often dream of crocheting some lovely things… maybe one day.  I’ve featured crochet toys and other small crochet pieces but today I wanted to share some wonderful crochet furniture I’ve found:

1.  A beautiful crocheted hanging cradle that has been hand braided in Bangladesh.  It looks like such a snug sleeping spot and so great for gently rocking a baby to sleep.

2.  Very unusual crocheted lights in lovely soft colours .  I love the green, grey and yellow shades that project a gentle and subtle light, perfect for a nursery.

3.  A restored wooden stool given a new look with a crochet cover.  So pretty.  There are many seriously attractive stools to choose from in lots of different colours so go have a look at wood & wool stool.

4.  No crochet selection could ever be complete without something from Miga de Pan… an Argentinian mama who makes some of the best crochet goodies I have ever seen.  These sweet raindrop adorned stools are perfect for any kiddy space.

Pretty pastels…

"pastel coloured furniture"

I’m sure my heart stopped for a second when I fell upon the exquisite store and goodies of Mimmi Staaf, a designer and upholsterer from Stockholm.  The first thing I saw was a sea of pastels which were at once soft yet striking… lots of furniture in pale blues, purples and pinks that are oh so pleasing to the eye and would be fit for mama or baby.

"elephant stool, origami mobile"

On digging further I found that Mimmi re-styles and restores old furniture which she sells along with other delectable pieces for the home and for kids.  Take this little elephant stool or that origami mobile; both are beautiful pieces with lots of charm and style.   That’s what you can expect to find across Mimmi’s store and I also love that practically all her offerings will appeal to any age.

"crochet baby blankets"

Mimmi also makes some stunning crochet pieces including baby blankets, bedspreads and stool covers.  The way in which she is able to combine colours and bring pieces to life is nothing short of exquisite.  Mimmi’s store is dripping with style and the only bit of bad news is that she doesn’t yet sell online but from what I could decipher (through google translate) I think she might start soon.  In the meantime visit her site Mimmi Staaf or head to Stockholm and visit the store… I know I want to.

Vintage wonders…

"vintage bench for kids"

I really love that the vintage trend is here to stay and we’re now spoiled with all the choices on offer.  Vintage furniture has bags of charm and character and for me it’s always a winner.  These pieces are from a lovely French boutique who have a very small but beautiful selection of vintage furniture for kids.  The low wooden bench with the bright yellow or pink mattress is a versatile piece that was crafted in Latvia around 30 to 50 years ago.  It would look super stylish in any kiddy space but is light enough to be used in the garden in summer too.

"vintage rattan cot crib"

This vintage rattan cot is another winner.  The shape is open and welcoming, almost resembling a flower in bloom… so beautiful, so poetic.  And then there are some sweet little chairs on offer that would make charming additions to any kids room.  All the pieces are carefully selected but many are one-offs so when they’re sold, they’re sold.  Head to Les enfants du design to see their entire collection.

"handmade baby crib"

I was browsing Room to Bloom (a cool interiors site for kids rooms) when a crib caught my eye.  I dug further and and when I saw all these gorgeous cots, I was smitten.  Every cot is handcrafted in Spain by a family who conceive, design and then make each one.  They haven’t even opened their shop doors yet but by the looks of things to come, I am already a big fan.  These cots are so simple yet so striking and unusual.  I love the idea of the spider netting which was inspired by the thought of facing your fears.  Called the PEPE crib, I’m also loving the teal and orange colour combo.

"handmade spanish crib"

This one is called the THEO crib and it has bags of rustic charm.  I can picture this crib feeling at home in any setting from modern to vintage.

"circus themed baby crib"

This is the CIRKUS crib which is still a work in progress.  They plan to paint it red and white and I can’t wait to see the finished article.  In addition to cribs, this Spanish family will also be offering other kids furniture like a pretty butterfly adorned screen but that’s all they’ve revealed so far.  Their collection is called xo-in my room and I just can’t wait till they launch their store to see everything on offer.
