A cool cape and more…

January 21, 2013

"dress up cape and mask"Dressing up is such a big thing in this household.  Soon after my daughter wakes up each morning, she heads to her dressing up box and pulls out an outfit.  These days it’s a fairy so if you come by my home at breakfast time you’ll be confronted with me eating breakfast with a fairy!  I’m always looking for things to add to her dress-up box and lately she has been showing interest in wearing a cape.  We’ve used blankets and shawls to make pretend capes but I thought I would also have a look to see if there were any new and exciting cape and mask sets out there to share with you.  I’m really not a fan of the synthetic stuff you get in abundance so I always look around for natural materials.  Just as I was about to begin my search I remembered the above image that I had bookmarked a while ago and I knew I had to share.  What a great photo and a lovely cape and mask set.

"cool bibs and bloomers"These pictures are by Udder, an Australian brand of kids clothing, toys, and accessories.  While it was the top image that first drew me in, I also found some cool clothes that look very wearable and playful.  The styles are simple and summery {as it’s summer in Australia} and often complemented with fun little touches.  I really like the clothes but it’s their accessories that I’m totally in love with.  The nappy clutches, the cape and mask sets, the bloomers, the bibs, the metal mobiles are all just too cool.  And that picture at the top… isn’t it just the best?

Before I end, I just wanted to say sorry for the lack of posts last week.  I’m away on holiday and the internet isn’t the best.  I shall try and post more regularly this week but as I’m still away I can’t promise.  I am however enjoying the sunshine in the southern hemisphere and thought it would be nice to share a summery post even thought I know it’s snowing in the UK and the US.  Besides I don’t think I could wait any longer to share this wonderful brand!

April showers…

"French kids bedding"

April Showers by Polder is the perfect combination of Scandinavian style with French charm.  Started by a pair of Dutch sisters who now live in Paris, this kids bedding, clothes and accessories collection is just divine.  I love the muted colours with unexpected pops of neon, the subtle prints and the timeless designs.  This is their current Autumn/Winter collection and I want everything in it especially those leggings!  You can shop this collection at Smallable.comwhere there are quite a few items on sale too.

A few accessories…

"pretty pink accesories for girls"

I think accessories on big girls and little girls look great but I don’t do nearly enough accessorising.  I quite simply forget!  I really want to change this habit and start adding that extra touch to every outfit for my daughter and me.  I love the idea of going for muted coloured clothes and then adding hints of bold and bright colour through the accessories.  I came across that neon and gold necklace today which I loved and that’s what reminded me of the need for accessories in my life!  So I first went looking for some for my daughter and these are 4 that I loved:

1.  Neon and gold necklace by Lieschen Mueller… 2.  Hand-knitted hooded scarf by Ketiketa… 3.  Ilva baby socks with stripe detail by April Showers… 4. Elephant hair ties by Melissa Abram.

From Sweden with love…

"scandinavian design for kids"

Whenever I used to hear someone mention Sweden or when I saw something Swedish I’d always think of one of my closest and oldest friends who is half Swedish.  Sadly we now live continents apart but luckily it’s one of those friendships where this doesn’t matter at all.  Now when I hear the word Sweden, I fleetingly think of my friend and then my mind just gets flooded with thoughts of wonderful Swedish design!  The Swedes, and the other Scandinavians too have a design sense that is second to none and I’m very drawn to their aesthetic.  So when I discover a new Swedish shop I get very excited as I know it’s going to be good even before I check out what they sell.  And that’s exactly what happened with Le Kiosk.

Le Kiosk is a new Swedish store which sells goodies that are sourced from all over the world but each piece has the Scandinavian touch of being simple, light and bright in style.  In their kids section you’ll find fun crafty things like the {make your own} house box and the pretty washi tape covered pencils… {forget the kids, I’d love some of these for myself!}  There are also the cutest kimono baby slippers on offer and some cool mini woollen blankets plus loads of unusual posters and prints.  What I love most about Le Kiosk is that a lot of their carefully selected offerings are handmade and as a result very unusual.

P.S. Have you seen our Christmas gift guides for kids and mama’s?

Sunday in colour…

"colourful toys and nursery decor"

Once in a while a drop of sunshine falls in to my inbox and brightens my day.  This is definitely one of those times.  When I visited Sunday in Colour I felt like someone had just given me the warmest hug ever.  This is a new US store that has the most colourful European brands on offer and sells quilts, soft toys, nursery decorations and more  Started by a French mama now settled in San Francisco, Sonia is addicted to bold prints and patterns for both boys and girls.  You won’t find separate boys and girls sections in this store but instead it’s lashings of colour and vibrant, eye-catching prints for all.  Apart from the wonderful offerings, I also love the way that Sonia has photographed and presented everything.  This is such a charming little store and one that really makes you feel all warm and fuzzy when you visit.  Sunday in Colour only ships to the US at the moment but they plan to start international shipping in the new year.

UPDATE Jan 2013: Sunday in Colour now ships internationally.

"pretty floral quilts for kids"

I often hear people say that each one of us has a story to tell and I think that’s true.  How we tell our own unique story is entirely up to us and I guess I’m starting to tell my story through this blog by revealing little bits and pieces of my life and also through my picks which tells a lot about me.  Writing is one way of sharing but there are many other ways like sharing through your own creations.  One person who has chosen to do this is Rozalinde Innemee who is the Dutch artist behind Monday’s Milk.  She says her designs are her stories and the production is the telling of the stories.  There is something so instantly believable and beautiful about her creations and I guess that’s the reason why.  There is a part of her in everything she makes and that is what makes her offerings so special.

"pretty bow hair clips"

You can expect to find kids quilts, hair clips, soft toys, fabrics and things for the home.  All have a gentle, pure and simple feel to them with a definite feminine touch.  I adore the quilts which come in the prettiest of fabrics and I love the animal soft toys too.  You won’t find the usual suspects here but instead we’ve got cute rhino’s and an anteater.  And today I spotted the adorable bow hair clips which is what reminded me how of much I loved this store and that I hadn’t yet shared it with you.  But now you know so visit Monday’s Milk and I hope you love the expression of Rozalinde’s story as much as I do.

Tame those tresses…

September 17, 2012

"pretty hair clips for girls"

I love little girls with long hair even though getting those knots and tangles out can be a huge battle.  My daughter is growing her hair and has the sweetest little curls in them but we’re now at a point where those tresses need to be tamed.  So I started hunting for some hair accessories and found the sweetest ones over at Hello Shiso.  The little crocodiles are too cute and the flower ones are so pretty.  Serious cute overload happening here, I think!  Hello Shiso is by a mama of two who says she adores creating well-made, fun accessories for boys and girls from her studio in sunny California.  Head to Hello Shiso to see all the accessories and don’t miss their beautiful bibs too.

A foxy find…

"kids fox mask"

I was recently interviewed on another blog and one of the questions was ‘what’s your daughters favourite toy?’  The answer was easy: dressing up stuff.  While not strictly a toy, it really is the one activity that she adores and can spend all day indulging in.  It’s great for the imagination and encourages creativity so I’m happy too.  We’ve put together a dress up box for her and we keep adding bits as we come across them.  My latest finds are these delightful fox masks that I’ve completely fallen for especially the floral liberty print ones.  Aren’t they so pretty?!  You can pick one of the masks on offer at the Fox Shop or you can even choose your preferred fabric and Lucille, the designer, will make a mask especially for you.  Very tempting…

A floral head piece…

September 3, 2012

"floral headdress girls"

"girls floral head piece"Today is the last day of summer holidays… while I’ll be happy to have some time to myself, I’ll also miss having my daughter around.  To celebrate the last day we’ve got lots of fun stuff planned so I’ve promised to spend as little time working as possible.  But before I go off to play I wanted to share these beautiful images with you.  I spotted them on the Oh Joy! blog and they took my breath away.  The girl is stunning as are the floral head pieces.  I know my daughter would love to wear something like this when she’s playing dress-up but then again, which little girl wouldn’t.  Maybe one day I’ll get around to making one but for today I’ll just admire these beautiful pictures shot by Chaunte Vaughn and styled by Jessi Butterfield.
