What to wear to an informal pre-wedding dinner

"informal wedding dinner style"

We’ve got a family wedding to go to soon in Kathmandu, Nepal and we’re super excited.  I love weddings and it’s been a while since I’ve been to one.  We’re all booked and the only thing left to decide is what we’re all going to wear.  Indian/Nepalese weddings tend to go on for a week with function after function so it’s not just one outfit you need, but several.  Luckily this wedding is a bit shorter with only three events, two of which are formal so both Anya and I plan to go in Indian national dress for the formal celebrations – I’ll wear a sari, she’ll wear a kids lehenga.  We’ve already got the Indian outfits so all that’s left to plan is the look for the very informal pre-wedding dinner bearing in mind that it’s going to be hot too.

Probably the easiest thing would be to find myself a dress but I’m not much of a dress person.  I prefer trousers or skirts.  With that in mind, I’ve been thinking about looks for Anya and me.  These are the 3 favourite looks I’ve narrowed it down to for the informal pre-wedding dinner party.  Which look do you like best?

This is probably my favourite look and is very me.  I love that two-tone kids dress which Anya already has and the simple black and white outfit is classy, chic and understated.  I’d probably swap the black clutch for something brighter to add a pop of colour to the look.

"floral dinner party fashion"Even though I am a minimalist at heart, I do like a touch of floral.  It’s girly, feminine and so pretty.  I’d pair that blue skirt with a plain top, probably white and I love the nude sandals to finish the look.  The floral dress for Anya is perfect with those shimmery sandals.

"pre-wedding-dinner-party-looks"This is the most casual look of all but it still works as the dinner is very informal.  I love skinny jeans and think they look great dressed up with heels and a dressy top like that gorgeous blazer.  Stripes are always a winner and so even though that black and white striped dress is very simple, it’s still very striking.

Do you have a favourite look?  Which one would you choose?

The looks:
Minimally chic – Cos kids 2 tone dress, Emerson Fry top and trousers look
Flirty florals – Zara kids dress, Pom d’api shimmer sandals and Zara Woman skirt
Casually stripy – Imps & Elves siena dress, Miller London sandals and Banana republic jeans and blazer look.

*A note: some clothes are past season so won’t be available now.  (I’ve included them as they’re part of our wardrobe so they’re serious contenders for us!)

The floral dress stole my heart- so cute. Although not the most practical colour for little people! Love the bright blue of the skirt too, would look great with so many colours.

I’ve bought that, couldn’t resist! Didn’t think about practicality though – fingers crossed she has a tidy day when she wears it 🙂

You are very much in my taste zone – I am tempted by the stripes look but keep coming back to the minimal look. Think thats what I’ll end up in.

i do love the stripes look. but i am always in jeans and sometimes its just so nice to go out and be in something else. Good luck with you choice. Whatever you choose its gonna look good as all 3 lovely. Have fun.x

Thank you – I think it’s going to be the minimal look. Hard as I try to be a bit different, i always come back to minimal! x

Great choices! For me the stripes are a little too casual for a pre-wedding dinner. I would go for minimal or floral chique. I love those two looks and how you have coordinated hers and your look without looking matchy-matchy!

Thank you! I agree with you – I think minimal chic it is. Might change my mind last minute like us women do 🙂 but for now thinking the minimal look. Thanks for stopping by.
