Tea and Kate

June 10, 2014

"unusual gifts for home shop UK"I discovered the charming boutique Tea and Kate a while ago and have been meaning to share it with you ever since.  It’s run by a mum of four called Kate (as you probably guessed) who has a passion for the prettiest things for the home and for kids.  Her collection of products, mostly by independent designers, are all so cheerful and happy.   It’s the kind of stuff that will bring a ray of sunshine in to any home.

Kate’s collections include some beautiful handmade dolls, some fun toys and gorgeous decorations for the home.  Amongst my favourites are the tutu wearing cat dolls, the simple French toy storage baskets and those pretty roll-up mattresses that are ideal for some floor seating in a kids space.  There are also lots of unusual little things to delight for the home.  Tea and Kate is a boutique to explore not just for your own home but if you ever need to give someone a special gift, then you will definitely find it here.

"best colours to wear in Summer"

How gorgeous are these shades for Summer?  When I saw those women’s dresses I totally fell for the colours.  Fresh, soft and flirty, perfect for those glorious sunny days ahead (I hope!).  And the kids clothes are no less beautiful, especially those lemon yellow dungarees.  Seeing colours like these in the shops makes me happy and hopeful for a long, hot Summer.

"shades of pink for mama and baby"

Everybody needs a bit of pink in their lives especially for Summer.  From pale pink to bright pink, there is a shade of pink out there for everyone.  Here are a few pink things I’m currently loving for mamas and babies:

1.  bright pink and yellow dress…  2.  vintage rabbit lamp…  3.  soft pink blazer with yellow trim…  4.  Leather print shoes…  5.  candy pink nail lacquer…  6.  graphic baby onesie.

Happy mummy socks

April 29, 2014

"novelty socks for ladies""fun socks for women""fun socks for ladies"These mummy socks made me smile so I had to share.  How fun are they?  All animal themed with lots of humour and cuteness.  These socks will surely make for very happy feet!

"Scandinavian homewares and kids clothes"While browsing La Petite, I recently discovered this sister duo who design homewares, kids stuff and more, all with a minimal touch.  I’m loving that graphic bear print that appears on quite a lot of stuff from baby blankets to wallpaper.  There’s lots of black and white in their collection which has a very Scandinavian feel to it.  The sisters are German but run Lile Sadi from the Netherlands.  Lile Sadi doesn’t have a huge collection, but what they do have is a distinct aesthetic which is simple, stylish, minimal and very appealing to anyone who likes a bit of beauty in their everyday objects.

"informal wedding dinner style"

We’ve got a family wedding to go to soon in Kathmandu, Nepal and we’re super excited.  I love weddings and it’s been a while since I’ve been to one.  We’re all booked and the only thing left to decide is what we’re all going to wear.  Indian/Nepalese weddings tend to go on for a week with function after function so it’s not just one outfit you need, but several.  Luckily this wedding is a bit shorter with only three events, two of which are formal so both Anya and I plan to go in Indian national dress for the formal celebrations – I’ll wear a sari, she’ll wear a kids lehenga.  We’ve already got the Indian outfits so all that’s left to plan is the look for the very informal pre-wedding dinner bearing in mind that it’s going to be hot too.

Probably the easiest thing would be to find myself a dress but I’m not much of a dress person.  I prefer trousers or skirts.  With that in mind, I’ve been thinking about looks for Anya and me.  These are the 3 favourite looks I’ve narrowed it down to for the informal pre-wedding dinner party.  Which look do you like best?

"blush pink baby clothes shoes"

The word ‘blush’ is such a pretty way to describe this beautiful pale peachy-pink colour which I’m loving for Spring.  So soft and feminine, this is a colour I want to see more of in my home and wardrobe.  So I went looking for blush things for mamas and kids and here are my favourtie finds:

 1.  lunch bag style clutch…  2.  floral printed kids dress…  3.  ballet bunny soft toy…  4.  face cleanse powder…  5.  stoneware trinket box…  6.  dotty oxford shoes.

"wowmom app"

I can’t believe apps have only been around for about 5 years but for most of us, we probably only really started using them about 3 years ago.  And now, I can’t imagine life without some of my favourites that make life easier and more organised.  Of course I love the fun ones too but it’s the ones that save me time and angst that I like the most.  One app I wish I had when Anya was a baby is WowMom.  WowMom is all about helping you easily find child friendly places (called WowSpots) for baby changing, for eating, for playing, for having a coffee and everything else you do with babies and kids in tow.  So whether you’re looking for a gym with a creche or a playground to entertain your toddler, Wowmom has you covered.

"child friendly places London"

Wowmom not only points you in the direction of kid friendly places based on your need of the moment but also details the facilities available at each place.  So you’ll know if the place has a kids menu for instance or what age group it’s suitable for, if it’s paid or free or even if the venue provides crayons or toys to keep kids occupied.  Handy.  Apart from the useful side, I love the colourful and cute illustrations too making for a good looking app which always gets my vote.  Right now Wowmom has the most WowSpots in London though there are many in other UK cities but they’re growing everyday with plans to include US cities too and if you want to find out more visit their campaign page.  And did I mention, the app is free?

This post is brought to you in partnership with WowMom.  All content, thoughts and words are my own.  Thank you for supporting my work with carefully selected partners.

"natural wood nursery furniture"

I’m a big fan of wooden things especially when the wood is left in it’s natural state and not painted or decorated in any way.  From wooden toys to wooden furniture and even wooden bags, I like them all.  Here is a selection of natural wooden things I’m currently loving for mamas and babies (that vintage rattan case – love!):

1.  small vintage rattan case…  2.   wooden animal toys…  3.  minimal happiness high chair…  4.  hand carved stirring spoons…  5.  ayurvedic yogi soap…  6.  natural baby cot

"aesop borough market london"

While I’ve never been much of a make-up junkie, I have always had a weak spot for nice smelling creams and lotions as well as pretty clothes.  Ever since I became a mum, my focus though has been Anya.  Especially since I started this blog, I am always looking out for beautiful kids things and kind of tend to forget about myself.   Last weekend while visiting Borough Market, I walked in to the Aesop store and this reminded me of how much I miss indulging myself and finding nice things for myself.

"Aesop shop Borough Market London"

The store itself was a real experience, so stylish in a minimalist way and the service I got was nothing short of outstanding.  Anya was with me and they even pampered her by sitting her down and putting some cream on her hands which delighted her no end.  I ended up buying a face cream which smells divine but it wasn’t just the purchase that I enjoyed; it was the whole experience of doing something for myself and discovering this little gem of a store.  I’ve since had a look at their stores around the world and beautiful doesn’t even begin to describe them.

Being a mum means very little time for yourself.  But I feel it’s important to find a little time to do what you love doing.  I want to try and focus on getting my mojo back by seeking out beautiful clothes, beauty products and experiences for me like I used to.  And when I find something worthwhile like this experience, I will share it here with you mamas.  Whatever it is that you enjoy doing, are you good at finding a little time to indulge yourself in doing it?  Or do you forget about yourself like me?  I’d love to hear in the comments.

Have a wonderful and indulgent weekend! x
