Kalma & Violeta

Kalma & Violeta is a small shop started by a mama who has an eye for beauty. Simple, subtle, stunning beauty. It’s filled with colourful little objects of desire to decorate kids rooms. I discovered the lovely Mar Gomez and her shop ages ago and I’ve been meaning to write about it ever since. All the goodies in Mar’s shop are handmade in Madrid where she lives and as Mar says “…each order we do with love with the desire that the child who receives it, will feel very happy with it.” It’s this feeling that comes through all the goodies and makes the shop so special.

On offer are lovely coat pegs and hooks, wall clocks, cute hangers, the sweetest bird magnets and more. It’s little objects like these that take a room from nice to wow. Teardrop cushions so cute!

How absolutely adorable are these cushions? I love the teardrop shape, I love their sleepy expressions and I love their quirkiness too. Propped on a chair in a kids room or in the bed, they’d make the cutest huggable companions. They come as a family of 3, all in muted colours except there’s also a black polka dotted one which perfectly compliments the others. They’re made by Zu, a French brand that also makes some other very cute stuff. So sweet!

Delicate beauties: Baby mobiles with horse and birds

I’ve always been a fan of baby mobiles but when I started writing this blog I discovered some absolute gems. Some of my favourites that I’ve written about are the whimsical mouse mobiles, the majestic bird mobiles and the simple style your own bird and clouds mobile. And today I bring you another to add to this list. I absolutely love these bird and horse mobiles by Specks & Keepings . They’re a little shop filled with delicate and beautiful objects. The kind of objects that make you happy when you look at them… that give you the little pleasures in life. And these mobiles do just that. They are hand sewn and made of vintage fabrics and each one is different. Beautiful and unique, just the type of combo that always gets me excited. A beautiful vintage boutique…

Ooh la, la… this shop is French and fabulous! Filled with gorgeous vintage finds but also some very carefully chosen new things to compliment the vintage feel of the store. I love the way the offerings are presented and photographed and I love the offerings themselves. It’s a space that is unique and very, very interesting. At Les Petits Bohemes you’ll find one off vintage furniture for kids including chairs and cots and lots of storage furniture. You’ll also find some unusual and cool vintage toys and vintage nursery decor bits. Then there are the new pieces which include clothes and some wonderful soft toys and hand made dolls.

If you’re putting together a vintage nursery or just looking for some vintage inspiration for a kids room, then Les Petits Bohemes is unmissable. They’re based in France as I’m sure you’ve guessed from the name and they ship worldwide.

Colourful fun: Japanese paper balloons

Japanese paper balloons seem to be quite the rage. I’ve never written about them before because I’d only come across the animal ones and to be honest they really weren’t for me (except the fish one which is cute). But today I found simple round patterned ones and I loved them. No animal faces, just brightly coloured paper balls, some with prints on them, others just in a single bold colour. These ones would be a wonderful way to add a splash of colour to a toddler room, a play space or a birthday party celebration especially if you hang many together. Being made of paper you can inflate, deflate, re-inflate, deflate again… you get the idea. I found these Japanese paper balloons over at Mimi’s Circus, a lovely store started by 2 mama’s who are also sisters. Today I’ve picked these balloons to bring you from their store but there are lots of other goodies there too.

Today I’m feeling the love for orange. Maybe because Halloween is nearly here or maybe because I think it’s a fabulous colour for autumn. I’ve picked out some orange goodies from across the web. Nursery decorations: Garlands of exquisite beauty

I am very excited to share these gorgeous garlands with you. They’re from BHLDN, a wedding store so extraordinary. These garlands may be for weddings but they would make stunning decorations in a nursery or a play space. I am on the look out for a garland for ebabee no.1’s room and I think I have just found it. It’s the butterflies and flowers one that I’m picking for her room… so girly, so pretty. BHLDN is truly an exquisite store and if any of you mama’s are planning your nuptials, this is THE go to shop. Cool cushions and toy storage buckets

Yesterday I was browsing the latest collection at Caramel Baby and Child when I spotted these cool cushions and toy storage bucket bags. I discovered that these gorgeous silk printed goodies are made by Ah Quel Plaisir, started by Belgian born Caroline Halusiak. The toy storage buckets are made of canvas and embellished with beautiful animal prints in soft tones. They come in 3 sizes but all are on the small side so they’re just the ticket for small toy storage. The star and cloud shaped cushions are stylish, fun and playful, the perfect combo for kid’s room decor. The cushions and bucket bags cost around £45 each from Caramel’s shop.

Love for Lovi

While flitting about the Scandinavian Design Show on the weekend, I spotted some birdies that grabbed my attention. I made my way to the stall where I discovered Lovi. Lovi is a Finnish brand that makes beautiful little birds, trees and hanging ornaments out of birch plywood. Once I laid eye’s on the birds I couldn’t stop thinking of the endless decoration possibilities for any space but especially for a nursery. Think eye-catching nursery hanging decorations or perched on a book shelf or even make your own unique baby mobile. Also on offer are a pig and a reindeer as well as some hanging hearts and baubles. And then there are the magnificent trees… a Christmas one and another one.

The wooden birds and animals all come flat packed like a postcard; the idea is that you can send it to someone… what a lovely surprise to receive in the post. Lovi’s goodies are some serious eye-candy. They’re beautifully made, come in a range of colours and would add a touch of enviable style to any space in your home. Nursery style: Sunny yellow

I love a yellow nursery or toddler room. It’s happy, it’s sunny and it works for boy or girl. So I’ve put together some yellow nursery ideas with a few of my favourite things:

1. Pip Early bird wallpaper – Bright and bold with an oriental-esque vibe. The Pip early bird wallpaper costs £56.39 for a roll from Tangled Tree Interiors.

2. Ouef NYC Sparrow crib – A beautiful crib with simple lines and an elegant shape. I love the crisp white against the bright yellow wallpaper. You can get this crib at Huggle who don’t yet sell online but you can call them.

3. La Voliere Pendant Lamp – a stunning light with little birds made with real feathers sat in a cage. This bird cage light comes from the Conran Shop and costs £369.

4. Linero Sol Abc poster – I’m a big fan of mixing styles so I picked this alphabet poster for it’s good looks and it’s retro/ vintage feel. The lovely poster is from L’affiche Moderne for €39.

5. Pom Pom garland – A little splash of colour in the form of delicate pom pom bunting. This pom pom garland is from a store called Happy Circus on Etsy and it costs £15.50.

6. Acapulco Mini chair – Love this chair. Hand made in Mexico, this chair is so elegant and beautiful. There is an adult version too in case you’re tempted! Nest have it for sale for £147.

7. Lucky boy sunday soft toys – I love Lucky boy sunday. So quirky, so cool. And what’s a nursery without soft toys? Perched on the chair is Kiki doll and the one lying under the cot is Bow Jovi. You’ll find these two and more at Little Fashion Gallery where they cost from around €40.

8. Lale quilt – last but not least is the quilt by one of my favourite French brands Lale. This quilt has little roses printed on it and on the reverse there’s an orange scallop print. Just beautiful. This Lale quilt costs £80.20 from smallable.com
