modern kids room ideas

There are so many styles and ways to decorate a kids room.  When decorating it’s always worth keeping in mind that kids grow so fast.  It feels like one minute they’re little babes in arms and the next, they’re telling you what to do!  As they grow, their tastes change, their favourite colours change and so you don’t want to end up re-decorating every year or two.  Whenever I’m asked for help on decorating a kids room, I discourage themed rooms as they don’t usually stand the test of time.  Instead I suggest a neutral colour palette with decorations layered on top for a pop of colour and unique personality.

DIY Easter treat bags

I love Easter.  Not just because of all the divine chocolate you’re allowed to eat but also because of the four day weekend which is a rarity in the UK.  It’s a great time to switch off, spend time with family and of course eat more than your own weight in chocolate.  What’s not to love?

Last year I shared these free printable Easter treat boxes and this year I decided to make little DIY Easter treat bags that Anya can give to her friends.  One of my favourite bunnies out there is Miffy so he was the inspiration behind these cute little treat bags.  And the best part is that you don’t need to sew to make these bags, just use a glue gun instead.  Here’s what I did:

natural deodorants that work

A few weeks ago I shared this app that tells you how toxic or not your cosmetics, toiletries and kids toiletries are simply by typing in the name on the label.  I have been addicted to the app ever since and as a result have decided to switch quite a few of my products including the kids products I use on Anya.

One of the first things I ditched was my deodorant because even the one I was using was considered relatively toxic.  But of course I needed a replacement quickly!  I searched around and I liked the sound of the 100% healthy Lavanila’s pure vanilla deodorant.  Naturally I checked it out on my app and it got a score of 0 which means no nasties whatsoever.

how to make clay necklace pendants

I never considered myself a DIY’er or a crafter but since I started some crafts for this blog a while ago, I can’t seem to stop.  It’s so addictive.  My latest crafting obsession is making stuff with home bake clay.  Oh the possibilities!  My first DIY clay project was making clay necklace pendants for kids. We chose moon and star shaped pendants but you could go any any shape you like.  Here’s what we did:

using lego to teach fractions

Recently my friend Ana from Pinknounou shared a really fun way to teach maths and I had to share it with you. The idea – using lego bricks to teach maths!  This is such a creative idea, right?  I’m all for doing anything and everything to make maths fun so that our kids develop a love for maths from an early age rather than a fear of it.

9 must have children's books

Yay, it’s World Book Day!  What have your kids dressed up as?  We love this day so much and get excited about it from weeks before – choosing a character, planning the outfit and eventually making it.  This year Anya is going as Violet Beauregarde – our school will celebrate tomorrow so we are still putting the finishing touches on the outfit. We just got a tracksuit in a slightly larger size, dyed it violet and will stuff her up with cushions and padding to make her look like a blueberry!

To celebrate this day and our love of books I wanted to share 9 must have children’s books.  Most of these books are ideal for ages 5 – 9 years but many can be enjoyed by younger and older and they are all keepers.  We’ve got them all and I can’t rate them highly enough:

Anna Hibiscus

Anna Hibiscus lives in Africa, amazing Africa… so the first story begins and many of the stories that come after.

As it’s World Book Day this week, I wanted to start the week with a book series we are loving.  We are slowly moving on from picture books, so I am always looking for interesting chapter books that still have pictures and quite big text.  We recently discovered the Anna Hibiscus series of books and they are a breath of fresh air.

think dirty app

Recently I’ve been hunting around for useful apps for me and educational ones for Anya.  We’re a bit bored of the apps we have and with so many out there I thought it was time to find some new ones.  I will be sharing the good ones we come across as and when I find them.  The first one I wanted to share with you was Think Dirty. I just wish I had discovered this app earlier!

best rugs for kids rooms

If, like me, you’ve got wooden floors in your home, you’ll know just how important rugs are.  They make your floors feel so much cosier.  Throw a few cushions on your rug and it’s the perfect place to curl up and read a book or play a game or just snooze.  Besides, a big area of wooden flooring always looks much better when broken up with rugs.  And it’s exactly the same in a kids room – kids especially love to play on the floor so why not make the floor space as cosy, fun and inviting as possible.
